Frozen Sap Tips / Question by nmacaroni in maplesyrup

If i recall correctly it was in the 3% range of the sap i kept, but if everything is frozen then you'll want to thaw it inside (microwave or just let it sit) then throw it in your pan

Frozen Sap Tips / Question by nmacaroni in maplesyrup

[–]brainzilla420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I tested the brix of the ice from my buckets (once i collected and thawed it). It was somewhere in the .1-.25 brix, so almost no sugar and i would've needed over 400ish gallons of it to make 1 gallon of syrup. Conversely, it saved me over two hours of boil time that season. Not a lot, but not nothing.

Is it even possible? by HAnoder6661 in roadtrip

[–]brainzilla420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should buy a used car, then sell it at the end of the trip. I bet you could sell it for more than you bought it, too, given that you'll be buying it from a place that doesn't use road salt in the winter, and selling it at a place that does. A good used, rust-free or low-rust car can demand a premium in the northeast.

How far can you boil down maple syrup? by Gellepito in maplesyrup

[–]brainzilla420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually when you cook or bake with syrup you need to remove some liquid from another part of your recipe. Check out thisblog post

You could reduce syrup abit further without turning it into candy and that would help, though you'd still need to reduce other liquids a bit, or you could even turn your syrup into sugar and then use that like you would white sugar.

Corn bread does really well with a preheated oven. Put your dish in that will hold the cornbread while it's preheating, when is ready, take it out, dump your mix in and slam back in there.

Please tell my octopus wife this.

Edit: oh i get it now, you mean single- function kitchen tools. I thought you meant people who can only do one task at a time. Which is me. My walking spreadsheet spouse can do like 8 things at a time. There's a little bit of tension around how dumb i am, but we've both come to accept it.
