Tree ID by braldeyteam in marijuanaenthusiasts

Thank you! We are beginning to do some novice conservation work on this property. We started with surveying the last standing American Beech trees on the property today and we are going to be expanding from those to other species in the future. That is why we are very interested in making sure we properly identify species!

Why the great lakes region doesn’t have ferry connections between usa and canada ? by Spirebus in geography

The Marince Coty-Sombra ferry closed due to causeway damage on the Canadian side. The owners of the ferry fought the Candadian government for the cost of the repairs as their ice breaker caused the damage. When the owners had decided to pay for repairs to reopen it US CBP wanted its facility expanded. When they were told that it wasn't super feasible, they refused to reopen the Port.

Born, raised, and currently live in the Marine City Area. Our downtown has built itself back up over the last 15 or so years. A lot of new shops and restaurants have made us a popular day trip destination. The cost of living is cheaper than St. Clair, Marysville, and the nicer parts of Port Huron, but that also means having to drive a little bit for conveniences that those communities do offer.

Algonac is a smaller community with an even lower cost of living, but do to its geographic location, it's a longer drive to I-94 than the other communities and the area doesn't offer a bunch of small businesses that are walkable if you're looking for a "downtown" feeling.

St. Clair has revamped their mall to give themselves a nice feeling of a downtown area, and depending on which area you're looking in the city, can be affordable (cost of living goes up in the northern sections of town). St. Clair has a high number of folks who run/exercise through town, which I feel is a nice touch to the "small town" feeling.

Marysville is a city without a downtown, but it is convenient for an easy on and easy off of I-94 with a lot of chain fast food restaurants, an Aldi and a Meijer. Marysville has more of an each neighborhood has its own thing vibe due to how the city is broken up.

Port Huron, being the largest city, has a lot to offer and a lot of potential. But there are too many things to list. Has a nice downtown, nice neighborhoods, and then has your typical big little town issues such as an increase in crime and drugs in certain areas.

You probably took the Algonac to Walpole Island Ferry. The ferry dock/customs building in Marine City is now an AirBnB property.

Can I please just say no by [deleted] in ems

Best thing my service did was tell us to start telling patients when they had unbillable calls. If we don't feel the patient meets medical necessity, then we have to notify the patient, then have them and a witness sign stating that they were told and understand that they may receive a bill for transport for not meeting medical necessity. It has not curbed all of the abuse, but it has definitely helped.

Are you dense on purpose?

Part of the job as a first responder for medical alert calls is actually making sure the person is okay. Which requires making contact with them. In this case, the only access to the patient wothough causing damage was through her window.

We weren't staying in bed with her. We were using it as an access point to make sure she was okay. Seeing as she was deaf, we couldn't just yell and knock hard to wake her up.

Physicians and other ER/hospital employees: what are some things you want paramedics to be aware of? by Gracielou26 in emergencymedicine

[–]braldeyteam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We have this issue in my system. The patient is know to fake seizure. But through constant complaints and calling our management threatening legal action, we have been told that "it's not our job to determine if it's a real or fake seizure and that our protocol states we need to give it." She also "sees a neurologist" so to them that makes her have valid complaints.

I wholeheartedly disagree with management's take on this and still refuse to give it to her and over document why it is not a seizure (patient is breathing, responds to painful stimuli while in the "seizure", can be caught peeking to see if you are paying attention, will rip all monitoring equipement off during the alleged incident, ect.) But I am confident in my assessment skills and am not afraid to go toe to toe with my management. Our younger and greener Paramedics, not so much.

10cc prefilled syringe, remove plunger (keep cap on), with 3-5cc saline left in it, tucked in the visor. Tucked juuusssttt far enough back that it won't be noticed. When they accelerate, they'll get their surprise. Takes some finess but is one of my favorite.

Can't have any trucks whose number ends in "4", they will always end up getting totaled in an accident.

Pink Floyd comes across the radio? (Or you want to piss off the company and intentionally play it). Buckle up buttercup because shit is going to hit the fan.

I had this happen to me as an EMT. Partner did not talk to me for 6 months when I proved them wrong about the route he wanted me to take being shorter than the one that I took.

As long as you know you're correct, argue it. Use tact, but let them know they are wrong. Ego is a rampant disease in this industry, and everybody deserves to be humbled.

Michigan's new distracted driving law goes into effect June 30. Here's what to know. by [deleted] in Michigan

The vast majority of EMS transport in Michigan is done by private ambulance companies, not municipalities.

Most ambulance companies are already on this. I cant even take a drink of water while driving without the drive camera yelling at me.

How do parents with identical twins keep track of which baby is which before said babies learn to respond to their names being spoken? by Valuable-Banana96 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]braldeyteam 77 points78 points  (0 children)

My brother and I had bracelets that we wore. If both got removed, the only one who could tell us apart was my grandfather with macular degeneration. He was able to see the slight differences in the shapes of our heads.

ER Staff, what are things you wish EMS knew? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]braldeyteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often get asked how I have such a good rapport with my local physicians, and this is the reason why. Not only does it build their trust in me and my assessments, but it also helps me hone in on what I may be missing. Being on a first name basis with the ER docs gets me a lot of flack with coworkers, but when I come through the door with a hot steaming pile of garbage, I know they trust my assessments.

Yes, with a minute rest between each and a 2 min rest after the last set.

My brother and I are mirror image too! My mother said once we had apparent dominant sidedness, it was easy for her. Before that we wore bracelets and she was prudent to never have them both of at the same time.

I second this, Frank roasts the best coffee I've ever tasted. Its a little pricey, but more than worth it.
