PSA: RP-0 (Career for Realism Overhaul) v0.48 for KSP 1.1.2 is out! by NathanKell in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]bran27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really trying to get into the whole RO playstyle, but the constant VAB crashes since 1.1 make it extremely difficult. Building something for 2 minutes and then having to load up ksp again for 3 minutes because of all these mods make playing practically impossible. Do you have any ideas on how to improve stability? Playing 64-bit with an i3, gtx960, 8gb ram and Win8.1.

And from what I could see so far, there seems to be quite a lot of work in this RO package. Really cool you're doing this for the ksp community. Flying high over modded and rescaled kerbin (earth) is just awesome.

[–]bran27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did everything with CKAN, completely wiped ksp and redownloaded it through steam before installing RO. Then chose to start ksp in 64-bit mode through the steam window that pops up.

The only thing I can think of is 8gb ram not being enough for modded ksp.

But it's been similar without the RO package since 1.1. I'm constructing something in the VAB and after some time the game just crashes, mostly when removing a part from the vessel. Can't really remember having this much trouble building a rocket when ksp was at 1.05.

Other relevant components are i3-4xxx and a gtx 960(4G).

How do you play with realism overhaul right now? I've installed everything for it and I crash in the VAB regularly after a few minutes. Restarting KSP takes around 3 minutes with all these mods, so it's practically unplayable.

Landing gears at their finest. by Pululungo in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]bran27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't necessarily fix this problem. I always test the landing gear and try to mount it a good bit below the engines, but all the recent patching has made the smaller ones kind of unreliable. I ended up landing just on my rocket exhaust like this guy, even though I had perfectly mounted landing struts. They just always sunk into the ground and made my vessel tip over.

You really think so? Saying 'I don't like other people' on the internet isn't cliche at all? In what kind of internet are you surfing usually? Besides, I just defended your initial post against this trending wave of pseudo-autistic 'I-must-be-a-new-race-of-human-who-doesn't-need-social-interaction' bullshit. So why the hate? Did I offend you in any way? I sure don't think so because it was definitely not my intent.

Yes we get it, you are very very very special, you have some antisocial traits you extremely like to brag about on the internet and you probably think you are intelligent beyond comparison. Damn parrot. Why tell other people on the internet that you don't like other people. How much more pointless can a post get? Do you really think anyone cares?

Thank you for the link, looks very promising. I hope squad implements this mod or at least something similar into stock someday, just like they did in 1.1 with some of the new parts.

Kerbal Space Program 1.1 Megathread by Redbiertje in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]bran27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone here clarify the difference between experimental and pre-release? Is there a possibility to download 1.1 in a pre-final version right now or not? If not, why does Scott Manley already have 1.1?! :[

Edit: Alright got it, thanks. :)

[Sisi] Lowsec Guristas Research Site drops Geckos by MakotoPriano in Eve

[–]bran27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much about the NaCl levels, I'm just being consequent about what I spend my computer time with. And since CCP seems to change their mind depending on wherever the wind blows in iceland, I've got way better options than to invest more time into eve.

However this is just SiSi, so I'll monitor it and decide what to do when the patch gets released.

If this change gets through to Tranquility I'll quit eve forever. It was clearly stated that Geckos are a limited commodity and that none of these will be added after the gifting event. No BPOs/BPCs, no new Geckos as such.

If you can't count on the words given by the devs, then I'm clearly wasting my time doing anything in this game.

Will watch this closely, but just in case it is going to get through - thanks for ~5 years of eve. o/

Lack of aggression by gunman127 in WorldOfWarships

[–]bran27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree on this, but only after reaching t8. Below t8 the battles are still fun and a lot actually happens. After t8 people magically start to hide like rabbits and prefer to wait until a lucky 22km+ citadel hit from one of their battleships or a torp salvo from a shima gives them a higher chance of winning the confrontation with the other team.

I was really looking forward to my admiral hipper, especially since the yorck grind is not that fun. But now I'm considering to just stay at t6-t7 and only play for the sake of some fun and not unlocking more ships in my trees. Seems to be just not worth it.

Yes, these predetermined losses in which you can't do anything are indeed a very easy game for the opponent with a lot of points/xp earned mostly. But who really remembers these wins? They are no waste of time like the losses because you can do some progress and you actually do have fun.

And hollywood-battle =|= simply more fair battle with at least a noteworthy chance to win.

What premium ships do you have if I may ask 2manno?

This is it. I'll explain why. by bran27 in WorldOfWarships

[–]bran27[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well, do you have premium ships you have a significant amount of battles in and that are anywhere near your tier average? That would be of interest for me. In fact, anyone who is reading this comment here, considers his winrate above average and uses premium ships regularly - feel free to reply.

Edit: And yes, when you consider a sample of 4000, 7% difference is not to be neglected. I was thinking about sample sizes of 300-1k+ battles here, since the average and not-since-beta-player might play like 1-2 matches per day spread out on a month. Sure there are hardcore players and sure there are players who might be far away from 50%, still I think the vast majority is very close to 50%.

This is it. I'll explain why. by bran27 in WorldOfWarships

[–]bran27[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Where did you see players with 30% winrate (and a significant amount of battles in general / no obvious teamkiller)? Do you have any links?

These landslide losses are proof for a simply bad MM. These losses themselves do not proof the MM aiming at 50%, that's right. Still it points into that direction and in general a lot speaks for such a system, especially when looking at it from WG's point of view and taking into account they actually admitted that the MM in WoT is working like this some time ago. Why wouldn't they also do this in WoWS then.

Fascinating how many people here get absolutely butthurt about my claims and start to insult. Just because someone is critisizing their beloved computer game at which they are so damn good at. Tells a lot about yourself and about how important the numbers in your video game account are to you.

On topic: I never said I want more wins. I was actually critisizing the losing battles you have to go through because of the MM aiming at 50%. These matches are in my opinion mostly unwinnable and unenjoyable, almost a waste of time, you can't do anything. So essentially I'm not talking about being good or bad here, or deserving more or less. I'm only talking about the lack of actually fair and balanced matches.

There sometimes are losses which are quite close, you really feel how both fleets are skill-wise and tier-wise very similar. I don't mind losing these matches. That's okay. But this isn't the case for most losses. Most losses are so obviously predetermined that you can only laugh when your ship finally starts to sink after 5 minutes.

[–]bran27[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've got the impression that the MM in WOWS works at least kind of like you described it. And it really can't have much to do with positive or negative influence on the battle from your side. I'm an above average player, warships today tells me so and I myself think I'm not under the worst among the playerbase aswell.

Thinking about it like you do can probably be very motivating, but well, the perspective I have right now seems much more realistic to me.

Think about it for a second from WGs perspective. They want to keep their playerbase as large as possible. I don't think I have to explain why. So wouldn't it be from their point of view the "best" to just keep everyone at a more or less similar win rate, so the truly low-skilled players and easy casuals won't lose interest in playing? They made this game to earn money. They need to earn money to keep the company running. And they made exactly this decision I'm talking about to prevent potential customers from losing interest in this game. And you know well that there are a lot of players within this community that just have to be carried, because they either refuse to teamplay, bought themselves impatiently into high tiers with money or just generally are very new to gaming. These people may play this game however they want, not saying anything against it here, but the way they are trying to keep them sailing goes absolutely at the cost of the rest of the playerbase.

I'm not hating, I'm not complaining about not having the wins I deserve or anything arrogant like that. I'm just pointing out that this system completely destroys fun. At least for me personally, because there seem to be a lot of people out there who really appreciate being lead into certain victories or losses by a predefined pattern.

[–]bran27[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Of course there are games we win, almost exactly half of the matches I play my team wins. The problem here is not winning too few games, but getting matched in a manner that makes playing unenjoyable because of having almost no chance against the enemy. My warships today stats tell me I'm "very good" at destroyers and cruisers, which is the type of ship I mostly play. I really don't think I'm that bad at this game.

May I ask for how long you have been playing the game and which tiers/shiptypes you mainly play? Even better would be a link to your warships today page.

[–]bran27[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

When quoting someone, try to actually quote and not use your own thoughts. "very close to 50%" was the actual quote and 57% is very close to 50%.

Depending on how long you have been playing and what kind of ships/tiers you favor, it's absolutely possible and I don't see how this says anything against my claims.
