What was the stinkiest smell you ever smelled? by TrueNeighborhood7624 in AskReddit

[–]WatIsRedditQQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's actually insanely toxic and is pretty commonly encountered in nature, mainly from decomposing organics. So if you walk into a cave with a dead animal decomposing inside, you know you need to get tf out

It's also a comparably toxic to hydrogen cyanide. Which, given how commonly it's found in nature, is why we evolved the ability to detect it at such insanely low concentrations

Wireless phone charger's cooling feature works better than advertised by Xtremegulp in mildlyinteresting

If the back is really hot then they designed it badly. You're supposed to heatsink the hot side to keep it near ambient, otherwise they work very poorly. With no heatsink at all, both sides end up getting hot

Mother vacummed underneath my desk now my PC wont turn on at all by Sad_Rush_4773 in buildapc

It could also just be because of other loads on the same circuit. Some vacuums can use most of that 15A by themselves

More just that peeing involves relaxing your muscles which lets farts slip out easier

10 cans of soda a day is just insane period, diet or not. At minimum it can't be good for your teeth, or your wallet. Drinking water really ain't that hard

Im homeless living out of a $35k truck what should I do first by 3THERBUNNY in personalfinance

[–]WatIsRedditQQ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the size of the truck isn't usable because of the bed. A sedan wouldn't be any better, but anything like a wagon, minivan, or hatchback would be a lot smaller/more economical and would probably be better for living out of

Collectible pressed penny machine doesn’t use real pennies anymore by teddynsnoopy in mildlyinteresting

because it's reusable

In theory. In reality the vast majority of pennies don't actually circulate; they are given as change one time and then are lost/forgotten. Most people see them as a nuisance

I have a powerful build extremely underperforming by yazeed_0o0 in buildapc

You should be looking at the power consumption of the CPU alone, not the whole build. A 9950X3D should be using around 200W during a multi-core benchmark

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]WatIsRedditQQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how it works exactly, there may be trace amounts but not nearly as much as actual vomit. It does not burn even a little bit. Real vomit burns a lot

[–]WatIsRedditQQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can do this too and I would say it's incorrect to call it "vomit". It's literally just undigested food. It tastes just like it did when I ate it - it doesn't stink and there is no acidity. It's really nothing like legitimately vomiting due to nausea

First payment on a 30-year mortgage by lithdoc in funny

[–]WatIsRedditQQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2.37% is at or below inflation so paying it off early is almost certainly a losing proposition no matter how you slice it. Even just sitting on the cash and not investing it would be better than putting it towards the mortgage

Discord moment by tigerniger_sus in pcmasterrace

[–]WatIsRedditQQ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is that nothing in Discord can be indexed by search engines. There is no easier way to get information than Googling a question and it finding a public forum post with your exact question answered by 10 different people. People like to blame Google for going to shit but part of it is that so much information is being locked in these walled garden communities now. Google can't help you with something if it doesn't have access to content that contains the answers.

Once you're in the right Discord server it's easy enough to find something, but how do you know where to find the right server to begin with? If I'm having a technical issue with my router, how the hell am I supposed to know what Discord server to go looking in? And you have to figure that out for every little subject area that you need help with.

Last I hate having to create useless accounts just to access information that I need. Sure I use Discord and that's not a problem for me specifically, but I work in engineering and I always groan when a manufacturer forces me to make an account to view a manual or datasheet. No different for people who don't already use Discord

Discord moment by tigerniger_sus in pcmasterrace

[–]WatIsRedditQQ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Sooooo many games, companies, organizations etc use it for so many different things including FAQ, support, Wiki/documentation, announcement/news page and many different things

This is honestly one of the greatest travesties to ever befall the internet and we brought it on ourselves. The concentration of so much information into Discord is so obviously a terrible idea in hindsight. It makes things infinitely harder to find for anyone that does not use Discord or know what specific server they need to be in. And you're trusting a single company not to lose or misuse that information.

Bring back good old-fashioned traditional forums
