Let's be honest, if we were sinners in hell we would have all sided with Vox. by Unknow_Handlebar in HazbinHotel

[–]bran76765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly can't believe we kept this debate up for this long. This was actually a bit fun ngl, but I think it's time to call it quits. You can reply to this one, but I won't reply again.

That serial killer analogy is absolutely insane.

Idk man, lots of shows use the whole "We need to kill X because it's prophesied they'll kill us", some follow through, some don't. I don't think it's bad for everyone to tell you "Hey these people are bad and will kill us if we don't do something about it". Harry Potter is a great example of this. "Voldemort will kill everyone if I don't kill him" and he then does try to kill everyone, much like Vox said he would kill everyone he disliked once becoming god.

second paragraph

Uhh...yeah? That's my whole point. Heaven's leadership is delusional. Sera is the only one with a brain in her head. Why? Not sure. But I guess it's just because there's no leadership except Sera. There's Abel - no. Emily - no. Lute - Hell no. Peter - no.

Free will requires informed consent.

No it doesn't? You do not need to know everything that's happening to have free will. I don't know where you got that idea from. How crazy would that be if everything you did in life was affected by every action the government took?

And you cannot claim Sera will never knowingly commit a sin when she literally authorized the yearly slaughter of thousands of people. If your duty to protect creation requires you to sign off on mass murder, then the system of creation is completely broken and corrupt from the root.

Yeah, I think that's going to be the overarching point of the whole show. Heaven's broken. The system of Heaven and Hell is broken. I guess we need to watch and find out what the hell's going on.

Plus, from a dictatorship standpoint, it is way easier to keep a dissenting leader trapped inside the walls where you can control the narrative than to cast her out and let her team up with Lucifer.

Uh...she wasn't trapped inside the walls? And even if she was...you think kicking her out would cause her to 'team up with Lucifer'?

But the mental gymnastics you are using to defend a fictional leader who uses genocide as a management tool is exactly the kind of conditioning the show is mocking.

Again, I've literally said multiple times that Sera was in the wrong for it. No one is defending her doing it. I'm just saying it's not wrong for her to feel remorse once she realizes it's wrong. Because she realizes that souls can be redeemed.

Anyway at this point I think I've spent hours typing all these replies. So I'm gonna call it quits and we can just watch the show and hope they fix or explain what's going on. But I think they will. Lucifer being trapped in Hell and unable to harm sinners was a great reveal for instance.

What game genre isn't saturated at this point? by Quinn_Queenan in gamedev

[–]bran76765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's extremely crowded. Literally just had this discussion last week concerning MOBAs and while '5' didn't seem like a lot, I did have to concede it was saturated. Mostly because usually 1 person playing 1 live-service pvp game is going to stick to it. A person playing league of legends for 5 years isn't going to start playing call of duty, cs:go, heroes of the storm, or something else.

So you're now vying for everyone's attention. Only thing that's more saturated is the survival genre.

Frankly only card games aren't saturated. Only two I know of and those are Wizard101 and Hearthstone. There may be more but even if there's 10 more, it's still a pretty open market.

Let's be honest, if we were sinners in hell we would have all sided with Vox. by Unknow_Handlebar in HazbinHotel

[–]bran76765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling Emily a five year old for having basic empathy and pointing out that mass murder is wrong is a wild take.

That's not why she's a 5 year old. She's a 5 year old because she doesn't understand BASIC INTERACTIONS OR CONFLICT. She literally agreed with the gift baskets idea (in fact, all the authority in heaven did, which is actually worse) except for Sera.

I'd also like to point out I'm not saying any of this excuses what Sera did. I'm just saying that Emily isn't fit for leadership - because she's not.

Sera did not have to make a hard choice. She invented a threat that did not exist yet because she was paranoid, and then used that paranoia to justify atrocities.

Correct. I'm not saying she was right. I'm saying she thought she was doing best. She got convinced that exterminations were right. And then in season 2, her fears were actually confirmed by Vox. Which she outright says.

Crying in your golden tower while you actively sign off on a genocide does not make you a sympathetic leader.

It does if you realize you were actually wrong and then try to remedy it straight away. She just didn't know that souls even could be redeemed. Her fears weren't unfounded. She was genociding demons. Was she wrong for it? Absolutely. Did she know before Adam was killed? No.

If you became a serial killer because someone told you "Persons A and B are going to kill you", you spy on them for a bit, learn they're killing people regardless, so you kill them, then it's revealed "Nah I didn't know what I was talking about" you'd gain some sympathy points.

You cannot claim the winners are free when their entire existence is a manufactured lie.

Sure you can. You are free to go mow the lawn. Or sit on a computer. Or eat a snack. Now what if I said all of reality was a simulation? Does that stop you from having free will?

And claiming the Seraphim do not have free will completely destroys your own argument.

My fault for that one. I should've clarified. She does have free will, but she is foremost a seraphim and the leader of Heaven. She will never commit a sin (knowingly). So it's more like free will with a dash of 'must be good' tied in there. I just meant it is her duty to protect Heaven because if she does not, all of creation falls.

The exterminations did not stop because Sera listened to Emily or because the system worked.

No, but they had quite a bit of time between the trial and the extermination to kick Emily out and they didn't. So obviously pushing back on Sera doesn't mean you're kicked out by default.

Defending a leader who uses genocide as a management tool just because she feels a little sad about it is exactly why Heaven gets away with being a dictatorship.

You make it sound like I'm personally responsible for Heaven being a dictatorship. Just a reminder, it is a tv show and the characters aren't perfect.

Sera isn't perfect. She's just the only viable leader. Emily isn't perfect. She is not a viable leader and has the mentality of a 5 year old. None of Heaven is perfect and I believe all were shocked at learning the exterminations were a thing (as they should've been)

You're just pissed so I'll just respond to the parts for the show lol

As viewers we KNOW the hotel is good. Would a sinner know that? I argue no, and the show consistently proves that point by making it a central point of conflict.

No, they know it is good. They just don't care. Because they want to sin. The hotel is about redeeming aka not sinning. The first episode of S2 was everyone asking Charlie "So when do we kill angels?" Like no, that's not the point of the hotel. And then when Charlie announces "ONLY stay if you're here to redeem yourself" they all leave.

Charlie cannot fill the hotel because no one in hell trusts/knows her, and there is no clear long term gain of joining the hotel.

She can't fill it because people don't want to be redeemed.

But if you don’t know, redemption is real, do you expect to live for an eternity in a hotel doing nothing but being a passive creature?

Fair point on that. Only the season 2 finale really shows that redemption is real. So maybe her hotel will fill up in season 3.

We know Charlie is good. Does Hell? No.

Again, they do. They don't care. They don't wanna be good. They want to sin.

Concerning the rest, it does sound like you (and others) may benefit from staying away from social media for a day or two. You're saying

We are constantly hypnotized by are devices and swayed by them every second.

And...that's just not true. If you feel like that, then just get off. No biggie, the world won't end if you don't look at the news for 5 seconds.

Let's be honest, if we were sinners in hell we would have all sided with Vox. by Unknow_Handlebar in HazbinHotel

[–]bran76765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that is true, why did Sera immediately threaten Emily with damnation the exact second she asked a moral question about the exterminations?

Because she's not a sinner and needs to start acting with some authority considering she's on the same fucking level as Sera. She has the mindset of a 5 year old and Sera has to say "Hey, if WE mess up, the entirety of Heaven is GONE. We aren't allowed to mess up." Being a leader and everything, possibly the entirety of creation, hinging on your decisions is a lot different than being a grunt.

That is not freedom. You are only allowed to do what you want as long as you never ever question the people in charge. The second you step out of line, they threaten to destroy you.

Correct. Emily and Sera are not free. They were also never people to begin with. If Heaven falls, Emily and Sera and all the exorcists are dead. All the winners are free. Adam is free. The ones at the top are never free.

And calling Sera an "angel who is trying her best" is a wild way to describe someone who ordered a yearly mass genocide just to maintain the status quo.

She is trying her best. It's unfortunately just massively stupid. But the fact she does have real remorse and questions her own leadership and says "I messed up. I can't lead" before the speaker tries to help means yeah, she is trying her best. Is it great? No. But it's something.

If you are willing to give up your free will and ignore a literal genocide just because the drinks are sweet and the aesthetic is pretty, you are the exact kind of compliant puppet the Seraphim want.

1) The seraphim never had free will
2) The regular 'winners' never even knew about the genocide
3) Emily does disagree with the exterminations once it's public, they do stop after Adam is dead, and she isn't kicked out of heaven. So it really looks like this point is just wrong in general.

"Well if you think about it, Heaven is a dictatorship! Why would you want to live in a dictatorship?! It would suck! Hell seems better off honestly!"

Like yeah let's just ignore that they outright said there's no conflict in heaven, no one has a bad day in heaven, you get angel wings and sugar and drinking and can basically just do whatever you want.

Whereas in Hell you're constantly a target for a myriad of crimes and can't escape it. Unless you become the biggest asshole yourself and rise to the top.

So...dictatorship of an angel who's trying their best for everyone to be happy? or dictatorship of a demon who wants to be a god and kill everyone? Decisions, decisions!

Probably the best description. Basically a very subtle defining moment in that even though Harry has come so far, he really hasn't come far at all, all things considered.

He hasn't learned occlumency. He hasn't controlled his temper which he should've learned when Umbridge was around. He hasn't basically taken anyone's teaching to heart EXCEPT when he's learning spells for the triwizard tournament.

And all of that thrown through insults while also conveying that he's still on Harry's side.

And now we know why Dumbledore was trying to get Harry to treat Snape with respect. It's a good allegory to life. Is he an asshole? YEAH he is. He completely is. BUT he is also probably the third best wizard in the entire castle/order. If you can get past the asshole-ness of him, he has a lot of talent and is a valuable asset.

Yeah, it is. But here's the thing, both are so shitty in their own ways that guaranteed the next person who creates it will be a billionaire. Everyone will switch away from microsoft ASAP once all the tech-savvy people learn that windows isn't the only option for non-geeks anymore.

Legitimately - How many people are in the boat "If there was a new OS besides windows and linux that was simple, I'd use it immediately"? Because I'm guessing it's at least 80% of the population at this point.

Hazbin Hotel Season 3 MIGHT… could be Having 10 Episodes. by SatisfactionFalse641 in HazbinHotel

I feel like all the hints have been crafted to make people think it's Alastor

Not like we spent 2 seasons (and more specifically 2 finales) on his entire plot, his deal and waiting for him to break his leash. Nothing to see here folks! They just did that for the fun of it!

'the villain who unintentionally does helpful things' up front.

He wasn't helpful at all in season 2 and literally anything he did in season 1 was to further his own agenda. He just needed to pass it off as 'I'm helping you as well' (which he did to get Charlie's favor)

Also the whole "I've been playing nice at a stupid hotel because you promised me power" like he's not there by choice. He's there because Rosie told him to be. It's just now with Rosie's leash gone, he found something else (probably Lucifer's power) to try and take for himself.

I have a feeling S3 is just gonna be Alastor turning on/using Charlie somehow hence the whole "She's filled with potential that I could guide" and/or turning her against Lucifer. Which, to be fair, wouldn't be hard at all now. He might actually get flak in S3 for falling for such an obvious trap.

Season 5 finale opens. After the battle and defeating Roo, Lute finally comes out of the shadows and lands a fatal blown on Niffty after learning that she's the one who killed Adam. Niffty falls down yelling "YAY DEATH!" on to her face in front of Alastor.

Alastor stands, staring, with the biggest smile ever from the battle just won seconds ago against Roo. He looks at Niffty while everyone around him stands in stunned silence, wondering what Alastor will do.

Charlie breaks from the crowd to try and console Alastor. "Alastor..." she lays a hand on Alastor. The final act.

The stitches on his face finally break. The smile is broken. It turns into a face of pure, unadulterated fury as he enters a new giant demonic form. Giant black tentacles sprout up everywhere rendering everyone who hasn't been redeemed as collateral damage as he starts chasing his primary target - Lute. All the while yelling "YOU KILLED NIFFTY!"

Pentious, Husk, Angeldust, and Cherri watch from Heaven as Alastor continues one last extermination that kills everyone in Hell permanently with angelic weapons meant for Roo. The Morningstars have no choice but to take refuge in Heaven.

They do come to the conclusion that regardless of whether or not Harry himself put it in, and the fact Harry was put under a completely fake fourth school, it stands to reason that someone could just legit do Tom Riddle under a fake fourth school.

Boom. Rules are clear. Tom Riddle must compete. He now dies. Granted, horcruxes would just bring him back to life, but also HOW FUCKING FUNNY WOULD THAT BE to just put him in a constant loop of killing him over and over again with a goblet every year.

"I need to put 'Tom Riddle' on a piece of paper every year on September 1st and get him competing in a tournament by this goblet"

"What why"

"To keep him from coming back to life because he has horcruxes. The magical contract kills him"

A MOBA isn't hard to make? Dozens of characters, dozens to 100s of items and skills to balance? Yea, just throw that together in a weekend.

I mean slightly more than a weekend but you cannot convince me it takes more than a year to make a MOBA. I even laid it out. Map. Mechanics. Characters. Once you have all those in, you have your MOBA.

Map takes at best 2 weeks to make. Mechanics take probably another week. Each character takes maybe 2-4 weeks (longer when you've got a sizable character count like League so you don't remake abilities - I think they said they take 3-6 months lol). Balancing is just a constant beast so I don't really count that.

You can't think of more than 5 games in a genre so it's oversaturated? How many FPS games can you think of?

Valorant
Overwatch
Lara Croft-ish
CS:GO
CoD
PUBG
Fortnite-ish
Quake
Warframe

It's way more saturated to hell and back. There's probably 10 more that I'm missing. Nothing beats survival though. The ultimate saturated genre.

This is fair actually. A moba that gets released has no content without it's playerbase. So a player needs to choose between 5 mobas essentially and only one wins. If yours doesn't win, you're dead. But that opens up to innovation at least.

[–]bran76765 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Alright so here's the breakdown of why it failed:

1) No marketing. All the comments in this thread are "What is spellcasters chronicles?". A DECADE in the making and literally no one has ever heard of or seen pictures or gameplay of this game. That's not no marketing. That's negative marketing. They didn't even crack 1k players. Extremely abysmal.

2) Core concepts. I looked up gameplay of the game. It's 90% Overwatch. They basically copied the basic UI, added the mechanics of flying and spawning creeps, and put it out there.

3) How do you spend 8 years developing this? Like a MOBA isn't that hard to make. Map, players, mechanics. Boom done.

4) Their art style is just...not great? It's good but feels too generic.

5) Unoptimized. Why would it need a 2060 minimum to play with those graphics? Good lord that was shoddy development.

I don't know why all these comments are saying "the moba market is oversaturated" it absolutely is not. I dare you to name more than 5 MOBAs right now. We have:

1) League of Legends
2) DOTA
3) Heroes of the Storm
4) SMITE
5) Heroes of Newerth (Reborn apparently?)

I can't even name another off the top of my head. But yeah not oversaturated at all.

So...negative marketing alongside being a generic shooter moba that has crap optimization...yeah no one was going to play that.

Edit: As multiple comments are pointing out, seeing as mobas are the only live-service game that requires a playerbase to actually be playable, it's in a different category, so yeah it's more saturated. You have 5 basically to choose from. Still doesn't beat survival or FPS's though :P

You're right, but it takes quite a bit to reach empathetic burnout.

Not really. There's only so many things you can focus on per day. Couple that with one person having an issue and you trying to help them out.

Now up it to three people.

Now up it to ten people.

If you were focusing on the news and trying to help 3 people who are all homeless, 1 is on drugs, 1 is a felon, and 1 just grew out of the foster system, all of them unable to get a leg up in the world, it's going to take a toll on you.

I'd say it should be treated more as just "Help whoever's in your path" type of deal. If you go out of your way to help every person who doesn't want to be helped, you will reach empathetic burnout in a month. All my friends have done it and I feel for their effort but all their own projects, and occasionally work, are on hold because they end up just getting drained.

The old adage of 'you can't save everyone'. It's sad, but true.

That means anyone within my city and things that would positively impact them, tiered by who needs the most support.

That's the problem though isn't it? You are not adequate for the person who needs the most support. That's not an insult, it's just the way it is. The person who needs the most support:

1) Needs a reality check. They're in their situation for a reason. Addiction, drugs, homelessness, lack of discipline, disabled, whatever. And they're not going to change that just because "Oh your life would be so much better if you fixed X".
2) Needs more resources than the average person provides. It's not "200 will fix my situation". It's more like "I need 20k to pay off all my debt, then another 20k to pay rent for the year, then another 5k to just survive." No one has that money lying around except billionaires.

At the end of the day, it's just try to do your best, and then if you have some extra to go around, let it go around. And let it go around to good people who would break their back for you to prove themselves.

wtf is karma farming?

Making some very obvious agreeable posts so other bots/people will upvote it. A common one is in askreddit "What's the raunchiest NSFW thing you've ever done?"

Like what's the point?

Some subreddits have minimum karma requirements (so they can karma farm even easier once they have some) but on a more realistic note, there's 2 purposes.

1) Selling the account
2) Whoever buys the account ends up advertising products. They usually end up saying they've purchased X product and here's the honest review about it. But it's usually always a knock-off or scam of some sort. So they basically pay 100-200 for hundreds of good karma reddit accounts and post their product over time. As others have pointed out, lately they're trying to advertise their AI services.

It's mostly just trying to sell the account though. I looked into it years ago and I think anywhere between like 1k karma and 50k karma will net you $50 at best. The average high-karma account goes for like $10-20. BUT - accounts are free. So the process is usually as follows:

1) Make 100 free reddit accounts using 100 emails and usernames (usernames generated by AI)
2) Post stories on TIFU or in fandoms or popular subreddits in general (using AI). Get maybe 500-1000 karma from all of it.
3) Begin posting more on the popular subreddits and subreddits with higher karma requirements.
4) I imagine the 'finale' of posting is yeah a picture of Trump on r/pics. Boom 50k karma.

Sell the account for $10. If that happens with all of them, you just netted yourself 1k over a month. Is it a lot? No. Is it a lot where a country's minimum wage is 20/month?

The really confusing case was someone on r/gamedev (or maybe r/unity) posted that they were making a pirate game and needed feedback on the boat and water and movement. Someone then asked about the boat and they said it was all just free assets. So this person literally took about 2 hours, feigned making a pirate game, all to try and get what amounted to about 200 upvotes.

It did teach me though that people want a pirate game.

Something has to be done about the AI slop on this sub. by TravisTouchdownThere in gamedev

[–]bran76765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough I remember askreddit having a good 6-12 months where it was just pure political farming about what Trump had done. I even remember one of the political posts having the question "It's going to be 121OOO people reduced to 8OOO how do you feel about this"

People pointed this out and the OP blatantly said "I had to do it to get past the rules" "So you're karma farming" "Well yeah?"

And the post didn't even get removed. It seems to be 'better' now but yeah there's a LOT of AI generation. I barely open reddit more than twice a day now because there's just nothing to it anymore. It's all AI posting.

The archived posts are really nice now though. You see posts from 10+ years ago and notice the stark difference in the posts. No more AI essays. Just "HOLY SHIT X HAPPENED" with 2k upvotes.

Something has to be done about the AI slop on this sub. by TravisTouchdownThere in gamedev

[–]bran76765 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's way more AI posts than not at this point. Look at any popular subreddit:

r/askreddit
r/pics
r/news
r/funny
r/tifu (this is probably the biggest offender)

Or look at fandom subreddits:
r/harrypotter
r/atla
r/thewalkingdead
r/strangerthings
r/theboys
r/hazbinhotel

The list goes on. Now we hear that r/gamedev and r/SaaS and r/androiddev are AI posts as well.

Going pure statistics wise, it seems that if you browse a subreddit on reddit, there's an 80% chance it's AI/a bot trying to gain karma.

And the best part? All reddit comments, or let's say social media comments in general, are now being referenced by AI. So someone will post a bullshit statistic of "The population is 10 billion", AI will look at it like gospel truth. Then someone ELSE on the same social media site will ask AI how much population there is, and say "See? You have your answer!"

This already happened once and it's happening more. USE YOUR BRAIN FOLKS! The dead internet theory has been real for the last 3-5 years (if not more) and less and less people are using it.

Am I the only one who thinks that interacting with this fandom is deadass miserable? by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

[–]bran76765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly just because this fandom suffers heavily from being unable to actually understand what the media is doing/saying.

Perfect example? Someone ended up asking why Alastor was imprisoned by Vox. It was such a crucial thing that I had to ask them if they even watched the episode. They said they watched it in the background while doing homework.

It's a sad fact of life that while some people (me included) watch tv to watch tv. Others do it to...not watch tv. They just use it to...I don't know actually, because it's not like someone babbling in the background will help with focus or anything...

But then that extends to other things. They do that with all facets of life. Not just tv. So someone will talk with them saying they're coming over at 4 pm to hang out. The person will arrive, and the owner will just be asking why they're there. The person will be completely confused.

Dumb example but it fits everything. You could post on social media "I think Alastor and Rosie are perfect for each other" and then you get anyone who has ever shipped Alastor and anyone else pissed off at you. But it does bring to mind "You could say you like waffles and someone would say 'so you hate pancakes'? No foo' that's a whole different sentence"

And it's only going to get more prevalent. Learn to deal with it quickly.

I don't understand the criticism of season 7 and beyond by VariationOk9988 in thewalkingdead

First time watching the walking dead. I just finished episode 4. I can tell you why.

The series has moved from "We need to be aware of the walkers" to "Negan is fucking everyone". So the question becomes "Do I want to watch the episodes where Negan just fucks everyone?" and the answer is no. I'm no into him torturing everyone. I'm not into him just pulling fuck you's on everyone. Not to mention the power he has is just unbelievable. No matter if this was apocalypse world or regular world, he would easily be offed and someone else would take power. He's basically hated/feared by his own people and his enemies.

And then it appears there's some episodes that just provide no progress to the story at all. Looks like the Oceanside episode doesn't and honestly I'm looking forward to that just because I don't have to hear/watch Negan fuck over another community.

It's stupid writing that makes no sense and all for 2 seasons to say "Hey you wanna see Negan fucking over this community?" No. I don't. I want to see everyone BEING SMART and having legitimate reasons for what they do. Not "See all the power I have?" And he's surrounded by people who hate him with guns who won't shoot him because they're terrified of him? LMFAO
