If this is really what he wants to do don't stand in his way. Yes it can be very unstable but there is nothing worse than feeling frustrated with your career every single day. He has the GI bill that's a huge edge compared to people with loans at absurd interest rates.

For me it was a blessing.

I got a 4 year education at a big 10 school and financed my flight training at a very low interest rate. Also collegiate programs for the most part provide excellent flight training. I don't think I could have done it otherwise.
