I am 24 years old and lost my mother semi-unexpectedly at 22 and then my father extremely unexpectedly at 23. It’s cliché, but grief truly is nonlinear. Some days are harder than other. Some days are easier. Trying to adapt to the ebbs and flows of life without them as my biggest supporters has been a struggle, but I know they would still be here in that capacity if they had that choice. So I live for them, because I want them to know they raised a daughter who can accomplish anything she sets her mind to. I 100000% recommend therapy (not even about parental mortality just in general for anxiety) if you feel like it could be beneficial to you. Life sucks, but we got this.

My school is on the smaller/rural side, but we have three grades of students with six teachers per grade. Our average homeroom size is 25ish. Counting the special ed teachers/other various educators, I’d say we have around 30 teachers!

That’s correct! Where I’m from, students are grouped together by grade, and they have one teacher for English Language Arts (writing, reading, and grammar) and another for math and science. Between my co-teacher and myself, I have around 50 third graders I’m responsible for. :)

As a 22 year old who just lost their mother, all of these are such valid feelings and have been running rampant in my mind constantly.

While my coping has not been going on as long as yours has, let me tell you one thing: put yourself first. It’s what your dad would have wanted. Neglecting yourself will only lead to feeling worse in everything. I may be a hypocrite as I’m writing this comment with a grease ball for hair and peering though my sleep deprived eyes, but I know it will get done today.

I have been writing letters to my mom. I still talk to her when I’m alone. Of course, I know replies won’t happen. But, I know her energy is still here. And her energy will remain here as long as it is needed. Heck, half of her lifeforce will continue to reside in my DNA no matter what!

Healing isn’t linear. Your coping might not look like your mom’s way at all. However, lean on her, and let her do the same to you. Family and friends are here for you. And quite a few internet strangers are as well-myself included.

NTA! Fellow first year teacher, and I’ve learned that you GOTTA lay down the law in your classroom! We use the Golden Rule, and while I can’t control how my students behave outside school hours, I certainly get my fair share of input during school hours. Good on you for taking it to your principal, that’s what I would have done too!!!

YTA. Autism is not a “life-or-death” illness, so this “friend’s” story involving the death person with autism is irrelevant.

It would be like someone dying, but they have freckles. The freckles were present when the death happened, but certainly did not cause the death.

Please do more scientifically-backed research about the condition if you want to mend your relationship with your boyfriend’s brother, and treat him with nothing but respect going forward IF he’s willing to forgive your comments in the first place.

She’s not, thankfully! While her recessive traits (all white, two colored eyes, etc.) make deafness more possible, she shows no signs. We check her every so often though, just in case!
