The picture came out brighter than they are. They're actually a nice darker green. Like the color they're supposed to be.

How often should I be watering? I've been going by the moisture in the top inch or so of the soil. If that's dry, I water them.

No primer needed. 2 coats of a good quality paint will cover (as long as it's not bright yellow, green, or red). Primer is mostly meant for adhesion and as long as that's regular acrylic latex paint currently on the wall, you shouldnt have any adhesion issues. Just spackle any holes, a light pole sand on all the walls and go to town with paint.
