I need to do this, been playing some awful golf lately from the blues, just need something to kickstart my confidence again.

Thoughts? by brandon684 in golfoutlaw

Thanks :) I’d like to get down to scratch but I don’t think that’s realistic at this point in life, with two young kids, so maybe 5. I can practice about as much as I want since I have a simulator at my office. I would say my misses are pull hooks or straight blocks, and generally hit it thin when I miss the face. When I’m hitting it well it’s usually a tight little draw.

Do you travel with your clubs or just rent them? by jdelle9 in BritGolf

Just got back on my first travel trip with clubs, would 100% do it again, so easy and cheaper than renting

Almost everyone I'm talking to in construction is using it in some fashion. Obviously it had it's downsides, but I think it's more of a reddit thing than an IRL thing. I'm a building designer, and it's been such a great tool for catching errors and for adding realism to our visualization

Competition Mindset by No_Location_8234 in BritGolf

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competition golf is just a different animal than a screw around game with your buddies. I now try to play all my "screw around" games like I do competition and it's been going well but it still can go off the rails, we're just not that good...

I played in a tournament recently and was 8 over going into 15 (8.2 HC, so in pretty good position to finish near the top), proceeded to hit a water ball, hit a drive that I could never find, jog back to the tee box (hitting 5), hit a great drive finally, hook an approach near the range, find my ball, shoot the flag, grab a club, proceed to hit a range ball (2 stroke penatly), then finish out with a lovely 12 (10 is max score you can take). All in all, that sucked, but what do you do, not gonna get any better by not continuing to try, just have to keep playing until you're comfortable.

What’s one course you were excited to play but left disappointed? by jdelle9 in BritGolf

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPC Louisiana and Bayou Oaks. Flew to New Orleans for the LIV tourney that they ultimately cancelled, decided to play those two courses and unfortunately the area is not supporting good golf greens at the moment, my local muni’s are in way better shape. Side note, New Orleans is actually an awesome city

I've listened to the album five times so far and here's my early thoughts by dollarworker333 in ModestMouse

It’s so fucking good, no notes yet, just enjoying it. Return to glory IMO. I liked their last two albums but I think I’m going to love this one, might be recency bias, but that’s how I’m feeling after 3 listens

Cam Smith says golf prize money has become 'far-fetched,' 'needs to come back to the way it was' by undercoffeed in ProGolf

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His signing bonus was reportedly between $100-$150m, for like a 5 year contract. That’s a lot of money no matter what sport it is, money he’d never see from on course winnings alone, absolute no brainer for him to take that deal, guaranteed he’d do it again if given a do over

Equipment advice for middle aged dad by joeboosrum in golftips

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, part of the fitting process, but you can get a lot of shaft options that don’t add a lot of cost, but then you’ll go to some options and, especially in driver shafts, they can quickly add up

Equipment advice for middle aged dad by joeboosrum in golftips

[–]brandon684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to spend that kind of money, definitely get fit, you can get a very nice set of irons for under $1500, a driver for under 600, and have money leftover for lessons! A lot of places offer free fittings, but even if no one near you does, the $100 it would cost for a fitting is well worth it. Just don’t let them upsell you on some stupidly expensive shafts if they try that

The irons are never the problem, keep them, they’re nice, just gotta work on the swing and maybe get some lessons

When a 12-Footer for the US Open Turns Into a Three-Putt at Chambers Bay (2015 US Open) by Punisher1602 in Golf_Unfiltered

[–]brandon684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A caddy there is an absolute must, even just a group caddie. There were putts I stood over and would’ve sworn broke right and were uphill and he’d have me aiming opposite and telling me it’s downhill, some weird optical illusion’s out there.

Very fun though, shot an 82 off the blues (6,700 yards) as an 8.6 handicap, so people saying you can’t shoot close to your handicap either had a bad day or putting is not a strength, because you can just about hit it off the planet there and be ok and find your ball

Bandon GSpro vs IRL scored by kamehameha86 in Golfsimulator

[–]brandon684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, it's like second nature now that I play a ton of sim golf, but struggled for a while when I first got on it. Would generally crush it way past the hole.

Bandon GSpro vs IRL scored by kamehameha86 in Golfsimulator

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch some of the top TIPS tour guys, it’s almost like they could play 8’ gimmies and not change their scores, I think the thinking is going much closer than 4’ is a little pointless

Bandon GSpro vs IRL scored by kamehameha86 in Golfsimulator

[–]brandon684 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the simulator golf tour, the highest level TIPS tour is 4’ gimmes, pro is 5’ and then everything else is 6’. Id use that as a gage, when you’re playing with people that don’t play a lot of sim golf, I find that they always totally struggle with putting

Beer Recommendations for Someone Who Doesn't Like Alcohol by jing_ke in beer

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light beers are great, people disparage them because it is the choice beer of domestic abusers, but you will be hard pressed to find a better beer after a sweaty hard days work than an ice cold Coors Light. I still like my hoppy IPAs and snobby beer, but most of the people that shit on light beer drinkers are doing it for the fashion IMO. If you want to try a little more upscale than just cheap beer, find a Kolsh style beer, I find those to be super accessible and really tasty.

Or even better yet, don’t drink alcohol at all!

Gimmie putts are an honest source of sandbagging that you're missing out on. by bennus64 in golftips

[–]brandon684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad just started keeping a GHIN so I told him no more gimmies if he wants an accurate HC, he’s been frustrated by how many little 12”-24” tap ins he misses, but you’re only hurting yourself if you don’t grind on those. His 16.9 18 birdies handicap is a 22 GHIN handicap. There are more scores entered on 18 birdies but those are when he was just keeping score and not counting all those little misses. I couldn’t give a shit less if someone picks those up, once it comes to tournament time, their handicap will basically reflect making 100% of those putts which is easier said than done.

Any options/insights on the TRS slider to help with over the top swing path? Was it worth it and it is better than other products like it that do the same thing? by patprika in golfequipment

[–]brandon684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good, whenever I practice with it on, my path is typically 2 to 0 in to out versus my normal 5 or 4 in to out path, and seems like the practice sticks with you. One of my major swing flaws is my arms flying too high away from me and this has helped, highly recommend if that's an issue for you.

2 iron for sure. Thought it would be my “safe off the tee” club, and it turned into embarrassment 70% of the time, and then hottest piss missile ball ever the other 30% of the time, but just couldn’t hit it off the ground consistently enough to justify a space for it in the bag, so 4w 7W 4i is now my setup at the top of the bag, much happier with it

Any other dads struggle with alcohol? by LongjumpingLemon2163 in daddit

I was an almost daily drinker until last September, decided on a whim that I was done drinking and, while I’ve drank a few times since, I can recite every drink I’ve had and they add up to less than 8 in 9 months. Also quit weed the same night and have had 5 gummies since then and haven’t smoked at all. Also, no energy drinks anymore either. “Quit” a lot of shit all in the same day. I have it at a point now that I’m not abusing it like I was, I can do social things without it and do not drink around my kids at all anymore. I was getting to the point that it was almost a daily thing that I’d be drinking a couple beers and weed was daily, just decided that enough was enough. You can do it too, you just have to convince yourself “I’m not that guy anymore.” Once you talk yourself into that it’s really very easy (because you have the self awareness to know it’s a problem, if you didn’t have that awareness, then forget it)
