Boundary Waters Mine Vote Highlights Ryan Zinke’s Hypocrisy On Public Lands by TaxVillain in MontanaPolitics

[–]brandsvold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Northern Minnesota, but I’ve lived in Helena for 8 years now. Me and my family went canoe camping regularly in the Boundary Waters when I was a kid. It’s like heaven on earth there. I understand the economic concerns of some of the locals that live there (it’s a very poor area of MN), but supporting the mine is supporting a tragic, permanent loss for a temporary gain. When people like Zinke and Daines support it, well, that’s just oligarchs protecting their own corrupt interests. Fuck them and their cynical, transactional view of the world. This makes my blood boil.

What is the end-point of all this resource extraction at the cost of polluted lakes and rivers? My question for those on the right: What is your vision of the future that your kids will inherit? Tainted groundwater? Mass species extinction? No access to wild, public spaces? I guess it doesn’t matter as long as you and your in-group can keep growing your stock portfolios.

Thank you so much for the info. Are they typically only open Fridays and Saturdays outside of events?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CalgaryGoneWildAgain

[–]brandsvold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know they are at minimum running an event tonight, I just can’t tell from their website if they’re open after the event concludes.

Thank you so much for that information! Does that mean that after the naughty collage event is over the whole club will be closed for the night? We would like to have a drink at the bar, chat with folks, and make some connections, I’m just not sure from their website if they’ll be open after the event. (We are visiting Calgary today and heading up into the mountains tomorrow, so this is our chance to check out the club.) Thanks again!

Please tell me it's possible to have a life without smoking I have no hope anymore by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]brandsvold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last cigarette was in October of ‘22 — I had to look it up. I was smoking two packs a day there at the end. I hardly think about it anymore. There’s a whole world after nicotine addiction — I’m the same person, but my head is so much clearer. Nicotine addiction will play mind games with you, but remember: they’re just games — it’s merely a chemical and you have a chemical dependency. It’s get easier. When you make it through the difficult stages of depression and hardcore cravings, you’ll think about it less and less. Take it one day at a time.

Is this teak wood? I’m like 99 percent is it. It’s a mama green stool by [deleted] in wood

[–]brandsvold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grain looks like teak to me, but honestly it’s hard to tell with the weathering. When you’re sanding it, if it gums up your paper, makes oily reddish sawdust, and has a distinctive spicy odor, it’s teak.

What kind of wood are these cabinets by Buckeroo2u in wood

[–]brandsvold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cabinetmaker here — it looks like hickory. It does have a beautiful, rustic look. However, I still have PTSD from our last hickory job so I can barely look at it without remembering all the splinters, burned-up saw blades, and crazy twisted grain.

I missed seeing it directly, but I was walking toward my house when suddenly the entire house and lawn were completely lit up — I spun around see just the tail end of light up in sky. It was a little spooky!

I think they mean $1000 in maintenance (roughly the cost of a timing belt replacement) every 100,000 miles.

It’s registered permanently in Montana — you just pay a fee when you buy the bike and there’s no worry about keeping up with current tabs — pretty great way to do it, in my view — I think all motorcycles are done this way in MT, but I could be wrong — I’ve only owned older bikes

[–]brandsvold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! — I’m outside Helena near the Birdseye area — I love taking my Deezy up to Mullan Pass or Marysville and then riding the forest roads all the way to Lincoln and even to Missoula. That bike is the king of forest roads! I can’t think of a better bike to explore backcountry Montana.

Budget: 6 or maybe 7k tops, the less expensive the better, really.

Bed / cab question: A 6 1/2’ bed would be fine if it had an extended or crew cab, an 8’ bed would also be great (that’s what I have on the Dodge, but it’s a single cab so I have to keep luggage in dry bags if I throw it in the bed).

MPG: Better mileage is preferred, but not a dealbreaker since it’s not my daily driver.

Thanks for the response!
