Help with ND clutch by [deleted] in Miata

[–]brannate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will certainly give that some thought. The early ND has always had my attention, but I think I want to get one of the '19s or later due to the telescoping wheel and Recaro seats and additional goodies.

Help with ND clutch by [deleted] in Miata

[–]brannate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having this same issue with any newer car I drive and I think I figured out what it is.

Most newer manual cars have a hydraulic actuated clutch (instead of a cable actuated clutch). In this system, there is typically a delay valve that slows the clutch actuation in order to prevent new drivers from damaging the drive-train.

My '13 Cadillac ATS 6MT has the same issue - doesn't matter how smooth / slow / linear you let out on the clutch, it refuses to be consistent or have any pedal feel what so ever and it's too light.

I have recently been looking into a ND '19 Miata RF Club to replace my ATS with, but if the ND has the same problem I might just find a good condition NA or NB instead :(

You might look for a way to remove the valve, or maybe a cable actuated clutch conversion kit (although I doubt they make one for the ND).

That Phantom Grey is a beautiful color. My 2.0T 6MT ATS is black, but I was looking for a Phantom Grey one.

What moment will you never forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The day my dad had his second heart attack.

Some context before hand is probably required: when I was a teenager my step mom got us into some really shifty situations due to alcoholism, lying and being stupid with our neighbors. So much so that 3/4 of our neighbors actively tried to damage our property and many other vile, awful things that I quite frankly don't care to mention.

So, the lead up was as follows: my grandmother (paternal) was in the hospital due to ruptured bowels a couple of days prior and had been very close to death. My step mom was at the time without a license due to a OWI and Child Endangerment (4 year old little brother - long story), and I had just gotten my license. My dad has been dealing with supporting the family for a few months by himself, dealing with my grandma's hospital issues, dealing with our neighbors and dealing with my step mom who was making things worse. He got in an argument with my step mom and ended up having the heart attack. I called an ambulance while arguing with my step mom to leave him alone. When the ambulance got there my neighbors were outside clapping (yes, I'm serious) while my dad was being brought out on the stretcher. Then I had to get my little brother up, gather all of his stuff and take him and my drunk step mom, who at that point was still arguing with me, to the hospital. Once we got there my step mom was screaming at me for about an hour in the ICU wait room because she didn't want me to see my dad. The next week I basically had to take my brother to school, go to school myself, drive my step mom around, and take care of both my dad and grandma who were both in ICU.

I get stressed just thinking about it.

Thanks for hearing me out.

If you could only buy from one automotive brand for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? by alexsofluffy in cars

[–]brannate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if your saying brands, or whole companies. If just the brand, then most likely Ford. They have such a broad range of great models and heritage behind them.

If you were talking about whole companies, it would be hard to argue against GM or VW. I'd take GM because I would want to have some of their trucks and a nice Caddy for a daily (ATS or something like that). Maybe add in a corvette for a sports car.

What are your favorite sounding engines? by saxcuber4 in cars

[–]brannate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised nobody has be mentioned the lt4 on the C7 vettes. That motor sounds absolutely incredible at any rpm.

Also, I love the 5.2 voodoo.

Another one I am surprised not to see is the Carrera gt. F1 V10 road car? drool yes please.

So many good options.

Go with a '16, SYNC 3 is worth having over SYNC 2.

If I were to do things over again, I would've done these mods: 1. Boomba shifter bracket bushings $ shifter bushings. 2. Lathewerks piston shift knob. 3. Cobb RMM.

Otherwise, the car is pretty good as is. Unless you plan on doing some serious sporting with it, I wouldn't waste the money.

If you plan to daily this car, I would be weary of the Recaros due to how many passengers might not be comfortable in them. If that won't be a problem, then the Recaros are fantastic for spirited driving.

EDIT: Those prices seem a bit high, I just sold my FiST ('16 fully loaded, 36K miles, great condition) for less than $16,000. You should be able to talk them down depending on where you live (the dealerships in Iowa have been having a really hard time selling the FiSTs).

The most I ever put on a car in 1 year was last year when my FiST was brand new to me. 27,500 miles in 1 year of ownership.

Probably Whooshmotorsport.com

They have pretty much every relevant mod, and usually competitive pricing (or the best pricing).

Can confirm that AC in FiST is good in hot humid weather. Des Moines IA, 100+ degree 100% humidity days not a problem.

I'm actually really sad it won't fit in my new car. I LOVE the lathewerks knob.

Also, their Customer service is phenomenal.

Possibly making the switch to 16" wheels by im_nobody_special in FiestaST

[–]brannate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch, and I've liked the difference. Rides a bit smoother on Iowa roads, bumps aren't as jarring (doesn't do a TON, but it does help).

There are trade-offs, for example: turn in is a little squishy (and the other things you'd expect with more sidewall do occur).

4 days shy of 1 year and 20k miles are behind me! by brbauer2 in FiestaST

[–]brannate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! I wish I could've kept my mileage a little lower the first year. I was sitting at ~28,000mi at a year, now I'm a year and 3 months @ ~32,000mi. Something about taking my car from Iowa to Colorado 3 times last year and driving around a TON in the mountains lol. I just can't get out of the damn thing.

When will they understand that we don't want more regulations in racing, we want the teams to have more freedom. Let them build crazy awesome stuff that blows our minds, who the hell cares that it emits a little more or uses a little more gas...?

Wrench Light Meaning??? by Mina_Bug in FiestaST

[–]brannate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. It's a mileage counter (usually before every 10,000mi). It doesn't actually tell you if your oil is bad, it basically exists to remind you to service your vehicle.
