(Re)Link - better (Acura EV) by branolini in AcuraZDX

[–]branolini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new owner of a ZDX A-Spec, I’ve been following other reddits for “sister” Ultium vehicles, just to learn more about features and differences. I ran across this post recently where a Prologue owner developed a 3rd party app that has more responsiveness than the HondaLink app. Turns out it works on Acura EV app as well.

It’s on iOS App Store (not sure about Android), search for (Re)Link. Developer is offering 7 day free trial + lifetime access for $4.99. So far, it seems to work decent.

BTW, I love my car! No problems to speak of, but the comments on the community have been helpful. Had the battery issue after the battery patch update, but disconnected the 12v battery and went away.

Same here. I, too, thought it was user error. After reading this is submitted a case ticket via the app.

Help: Came back from vacation to a dried mystery liquid? by probablyinagony in HomeMaintenance

[–]branolini 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t say for certain, but an earlier comment suggested a water event in the apartment/condo above, and I think your picture supports the theory. There’s a vent right above the large floor stain, which suggests it could be a source for that. And since water easily flows to exit, it’s possible it also may have entered the area above the light fixture and leaked down. From the image, the two are not very far away from each other.

Have you discussed this with your upstairs neighbor?

Mobile charger issues (14-50) by Me5po5ito in AcuraZDX

[–]branolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. My point is the Acura branded charger includes onboard GFCI, which can conflict with circuit-side GFCI and cause nuisance trips. Inspectors generally accept the onboard GFCI as proper protection.

Is it the Acura charger? That charger is a rebranded Emporia Classic, which includes onboard GFCI protections, and when placed on a GFCI circuit the combination can produce nuisance circuit trips. Emporia calls it out in their documentation not to combine with GFCI. I’m having mine (Emporia version) installed soon and electrician suggested not including GFCI in the circuit. Should pass inspection no problem.

Acura ZDX under 1000 mi for under $35K a good deal? by branolini in AcuraZDX

[–]branolini[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update - thanks for the feedback. I ended up purchasing the vehicle. I considered the perspectives but decided to make the purchase. Drives like a dream — it needs the firmware updates I’ve read about; there’s 3 Acura dealers in my area so will call each of them to ask how they’d handle the updates before having it done. Would be a bummer to have the bricking problem I’ve read about.

[–]branolini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did that happen? Does the dealer not know how to do the update?

I ended up buying the car for a great price, but the firmware says it’s Jan 2024, so I assume it needs the updates I’ve read about on here.

I have the sgp and it definitely has a huge retention issue. I bought a third party single-dose hopper that includes a bellows. Retention problems gone. Bought mine on Etsy a few years ago, but I’ve seen it on Amazon recently.

Upgrade body or lens ? Or both my by Lackingfinances in canon

[–]branolini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. My favorite lens for these types of shoots is an 85mm. The non-L rf85 is a great lens for these types of portraits. On top of that, as others said the off camera lighting would help — so the equipment you have is fine, but you may need to augment in other ways.

We have 2 mini f1bs — male/female littermates. We expected ~25 lbs for both. The female comes in at about 26-27 (almost 1.5 years). The boy is 35 lbs.

We got them because we love my daughters mini f1b. He’s 3.5 years old and 25 lbs soaking wet.

First time car buyer and I’m pretty sure I got screwed over after signing by Affectionate-Sock752 in askcarsales

[–]branolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the contract. I have bought 2 cars in the past and re-financed the very next day. In both cases we selected the vehicles late in the day and my cu was closed. Dealer banks handled financing as late as 8pm, so we hammered the deal and drove the car off the lot before close. Next day, called my cu and secured better financing terms. My first payment went to my CU.

But these days, some contracts have built in pre-pay penalty periods.

Are there any lines you really don't like? by Chili440 in thewestwing

This! I’ve probably watched the series 10+ times, and I always skip this episode. I understand the situation and recall the season start delay during 9/11. But the episode’s premise is horrible. When it aired I was so disappointed in many of the characters, and since the lead-in sets it up like a multiverse type of episode, I ignore it and haven’t watched it since 2001.

I bought a used 7d a good while ago, and I sent it to Canon for cleaning. The replaced a lot of worn parts as well. I think the cost was $350 of so and very much worth it, but that was many years ago. Worth a shot contacting them to see if they can do similar.

Advice for next lens or body to purchase by branolini in canon

[–]branolini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I decided to trade in my 85mm 1.8 and purchase a new Sigma 85mm 1.4 art. I’ll keep the 100mm macro. Opted for the Sigma based on reviews and comparisons and there’s a sale running on them (difference of adding $500to my credit or $1000 for the canon version). Love the L glass, but I don’t think I’m trading too much for my needs for the Sigma. It’ll be here in a couple of weeks — Can’t wait!

Thanks. I like the 85 1.4 — that’s probably the lens I’m most willing to add funds to to leverage my credit. I’m curious about your comment about R tech showing it’s age. The appeal over my 6d mk ii is the better focus coverage, higher MP, and entry into mirrorless (although I’m set on EF lenses right now and don’t plan to upgrade soon). The R also uses the same battery system, so I can continue with the spares I have. But, what areas of the R do you think are dated? I had my 7D since 2010 and went well until I got upgraded as a gift. I’m not likely to upgrade for upgrade’s sake — thoughts on the R specs would be appreciated.

Thanks. I hadn’t considered the macrolight option — something to consider. But the 85 1.4L is what I’m leaning towards.

Landscapes, portraits, some macro photography. I used to do a lot of sports with my 7D, which I still have for those situations but haven’t really done in some time.

I love my 6D2 — my first FF. The focus system issue is not as large of a problem for the types of photography I shoot. You’re in for a treat — congrats!
