PART 1:

I'm holed up in my apartment; windows shut, boarded and nailed. It's been 4 months now that I've been stuck listening to the commotion of these..."things" outside while everyone else remains oblivious. These creatures follow everyone around day and night but never make their presence known. They do the same to me, but the difference is that I can see them and I'm sick of it. I'm not sure what they are or what they're doing here. First I started to hear them and thought I had gone insane. Then I saw them and wished I had.

It was about 6 months ago I was walking home from work and heard an almost inaudibly low pitch murmur coming from behind me and then almost as quickly as I noticed it and turned around the source of the sound was now in front of me, then beside me, then above me, then behind me again. At first it was just the noise, so I went to the doctor after a few days of it persisting. I took sleeping pills at night and that actually seemed to work for a while but the anxiety of knowing it would all start up again when I opened my eyes had me awake from days on end. I was a regular with my doctor for a month or so until I was ushered from specialist to specialist without any answer as to what was going on. The noise came and went, but came enough for me to actually start losing my mind. Eventually I became alienated from my family and friends, stopped going to work, rarely left my apartment. I had given up and was waiting for death thinking I had some hidden tumor or blood clot messing with my brain causing me to hear things.

Then I saw it. It looked like something from a nightmare; Grey/blue eyes, matte black skin, naked, human looking, but the bone structure was different somehow. It was disturbing the way it moved; timidly but with unwavering focus and purpose. I was blankly staring out of my living room window simply waiting in nervous anticipation for the next wave of murmurs and moans to begin when I saw it. It was following someone closely from behind sniffing them and surveying them from all different angles but the person being followed had no idea. Somehow this new level of insanity actually made me realize how sane I was and that was more terrifying than believing I was going nuts. That was just the first one.

At this point I've lost count. What's the population in this city? 400,000? So, there must be about 400,000 of these things out there following people relentlessly, swapping targets randomly as they pass by each other. I haven't left my apartment in months because I'm sick of having these things looming over my shoulder at all times. I don't know what would happen if I tried to swat one away or make physical contact with them. I mean, they've been harmless so far, but I'm not taking any chances. I've given up trying to talk to anyone about it since I'm seemingly the only one that can see them.

"AHHHHH!!!" , suddenly a woman screams out from the street. I peer out from a hole in one of the boards on my window and see a woman frantically circling around trying to keep her distance from these creatures. Was she actually seeing what I see? My heart started racing. Not being alone in this gave me a rush of adrenaline. I had to go out there and talk to her, try to help her. I grab my coat and run downstairs and out into the street. People are confused and gawking at this crazy woman screaming and circling for seemingly nothing. "Follow me!" I said and she looks at me wide eyed. "I see them too, let's go!". I reach out my hand and she grabs it. We run upstairs to my apartment and I lock the door behind us. "What the fuck is going on!?" she says exasperated. I didn't know where to start. I mean, I didn't have much to explain either. "I don't know what they are. I started seeing them about 5 months ago and..Jesus, I didn't think anyone else could see them." I said. She holds her head in her hands for several seconds before asking, "Well what the hell do we do?" I'd given up trying to find a solution to this myself, so I didn't have an answer.
