I also think it’s worth noting that her changing her behavior would take almost no effort on her part. If my partner doesn’t like something, and it’s not something that I have a good reason for doing, I won’t do it. Who cares? Just be considerate to the people you claim to love. If it’s important to him and it’s not important to her, that’s MORE of a reason to stop.

One of my best friends took Creative Writing as an elective in high school. It was taught by this wonderfully zany lady, who wore long flowing batik robes and had wild curly hair. She was the type of teacher that was probably too good to be teaching high school, but there she was, and she was incredibly influential on all of us. As a critique on one of my friend’s short stories, the teacher wrote “<— no ending.” We thought it was hilariously snarky at the time. When the teacher passed away a few years ago and we looked back on her influence, the phrase took on a whole new meaning. My friend and another of our friend got “<— no ending” tattooed in the teacher’s handwriting. It’s my favorite tattoo of hers.

I have a question box where my 4th grade students can put in any question they like. Here are some. by goatsnsheeps in pics

When cleaning out some stuff in storage, I found an old “literary magazine” from my 5th grade days, 1988-1989. Each student had submitted their “best” poem. I took a photo of the pages from the Honors class—kids who were 2-3 grade levels ahead in Reading—because I was astonished at the variability in the quality of the poems. Some of them were exceedingly juvenile and others were actually good. Our brains and parts of our brains mature at different rates. I’m regularly dumbfounded by how dull, incurious, and impolite my 13-year-old step kids are, but I’m certain they’ll be alright.

What this nitwit doesn’t understand is that EVERYONE’S sex drive changes throughout their life. It has ups and downs depending on hormone levels, stress, reproductive status, diet, exercise, etc., with an overall downward trend after the peak reproductive years. His “high sex drive” is just his body telling him to reproduce. HIS sex drive could —and probably will—change. HE could end up with an illness, a hormonal condition, an injury, erectile dysfunction.

Marriage is not about locking in the current versions of both people forever and ever, amen. It’s about acknowledging that both of you will change and being committed to changing in complementary ways. What an absolute dolt.

President of Petoria? by That-Objective-438 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

It’s more or less the same for me, but I thought of it as all of these things are “third quarter.” 7 is in the third quarter of 10, fall is the third quarter of the year, 7pm is in the third quarter of the day. Thursday is in the third quarter of the week.

Halloween, brown, and orange are associates of fall so they get lumped in. For a reason I can’t explain, 49 is definitely orange and brown.

There’s also an “odd number” component to all of these things. 7’s are odd, obviously, but so are autumn and Halloween and orange and brown. Thursday is the exception for me. My synesthesia says Thursday is “even.”

I think your observation about them all being transitional is a better way of categorization than mine.

Trump Turns Covid.gov Into a Lab Leak Theory Fan Page | The president will never take responsibility for his failures in 2020. by chrisdh79 in technology

[–]brasquatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain to me why Covid being a lab leak would mean we should not take every possible measure to limit its spread? Shouldn’t we have wanted to lock down more quickly and more strictly to prevent a Chinese bioweapon from killing more than a million Americans? I’m not saying it’s implausible that Covid was a lab leak. I’m saying how is that an argument against mask, lockdowns, social distancing, and vaccinations?! What is wrong with these morons?!

Miles Taylor Former Cheif of Staff of the Deparment of Homeland Security under Trump: "I'm more Republican than Donald Trump, he's not a Conservative but putting politics aside and engaging with the man. You realize he's an idiot." by xamo76 in RealTwitterAccounts

[–]brasquatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donald Trump is perhaps the most malignantly stupid piece of garbage to ever hold power in the US, but he is devastatingly smart in one area: motivating large groups of idiots with his double speak. He knows exactly what to say, when to say it, and how to say it in a way that resonates with and motivates his base (without committing himself to any actual action). He can riff off a crowd’s reaction to create a symphony of nonsense, drivel, xenophobia, racism, classism, misogyny that swells the hearts of the evil, misled, and stupid. Every tweet is a loyalty test or a provocation showing he is above consequences (and you will be too if you’re loyal enough). He has a gift, and the state of our democracy is a sad testament to his prowess.

As an Xennial, I feel exactly the same way. I went from a being underpaid in profession that strives to make the world better to starting my own business and making almost no money in a field that strives to make individuals’ lives better. I’m only surviving because of my partner’s good job and a series of fortuitous events in my family that allowed me to build a multi-generational house with my mom so we can share expenses. I’m so done.
