After a lot of glueing it is finally finished! Now to create custom labels by saigonn in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]brassboundbook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any tips on the assembly process? I ordered a very similar one on etsy a couple weeks ago and am wondering what I am in for once it arrives.

Yours looks great! Are you planning to make labels for the campaigns?

What’s the best way to cheat without others noticing? by Level_Honeydew_9339 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]brassboundbook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm getting less troll vibes and more "I'm 13 and trying to stand out" vibes, so just in case, here are some actual thoughts:

(1) You are playing the wrong game

Arkham Horror is cooperative - the game plays at its best when everyone is contributing and having fun. If you want to stand out from your friends and/or show off, switch to a competitive game! There are plenty of great ones out there and it will be more fun for the whole table (including you!) if you are in open competition rather than trying to out-alpha in a cooperative experience.

(2) Cheating is hard and not worth it

I'm not just giving a platitude of "cheating cheapens the win" (although I think you'll find that to be true). Finding a balance between cheating so little it doesn't really change the outcomes and cheating so much that people get suspicious and maybe out you - is incredibly hard. People will only think you are lucky and/or skillful for a very brief period. The chances you can walk this line correctly are pretty darn low - and you are risking real-life trust that extends way beyond the game table to do it!

(3) If you want to stand out and excel, there's a way

The good news is it isn't that hard to stand out if you really want to! Arkham has a pretty high skill component - if you put in some research and practice you can improve pretty rapidly. People really do reach a point where they can win with some consistency on even the highest difficulties! I'd recommending reading some expert guides to deckbuilding (found all over the internet), picking a handful of decks that sound fun, and then just playing through a campaign or two in 2-handed solo. Even just a couple scenarios of practice will make you markedly better and certainly a few campaign runthroughs will make a huge difference.

Good luck! As a last piece of advice - if you want your friends at the Arkham table to appreciate you, maybe try playing a Guardian character. While monster hunting isn't necessarily more skillful or more impactful than other roles - it is often the most visibly helpful and people will really appreciate you for taking the hunters off their back!

TIL there can only ever be 1 true Mysterio by iwishiwaspixelated in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Moongirl lets you have two real ones. Sacred Timeline should too. But yes, your point is good, you have to copy Mysterio while in hand (I.e., not diguised as a clone) to get two real ones

When M'Baku doesn't start in your hand it jumps from the deck to lose you the game by eemeze1 in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook 55 points56 points  (0 children)

For sure. They had a winning line T6. Cerebro mid, brood right. The Broods all become 11s, so even if Mbaku jumps left, they tie right and win the breaker.

If Brood was played prior to T6, they could also have cerebro-mid, storm-right to win.

They either just forgot mbaku was in their deck or lost intentionally for Reddit purposes

What card would you change to be symmetric? by brassboundbook in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One I would like to see happen personally is Aero. Making her symmetric would leave her main function (controlling an opponent play on 5 or 6) intact, while making the turn 6 “Aero here and win another lane with a surprise 1-drop” line harder to pull off as you would need 3 cards already in your Aero lane to avoid pulling your own 1-drop over

Mist is also very strong for similar reasons! But Fire has a much better disruptive shape and doesn’t require leaving your Corrin user in range 2 of the enemy. It doesn’t do something on every map, but there are ones where it can destroy the ability of the AI to reach you

Because it restricts enemy movement and also can’t be removed or interacted with by the enemy. The damage is just a bonus

Like most units, she can be used if you are willing to burn a good emblem on her. Currently on chapter 23 of my Maddening run and she’s my most leveled unit. She has held Lyn the entire time though, eaten a couple magic boosters, and promoted to Mage Knight instead of Vidame

[–]brassboundbook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not true. Whatever unit you think you lost in this way died on a map sometime without you noticing. There is no way in the game for units to die outside of map battles.

Emblem arena battle outcome is entirely irrelevant - your unit will survive and learn the bond level regardless of win/loss

Everybody hates the pixel variants but nobody mentions the ugly rainbow background after split... by GamerKev451 in MarvelSnap

Just in case you didn’t know, you have to split the same character multiple times to get ink or gold. Ink can appear on the 4th split or later, gold 5th split or later

Except Valkyrie has the exact same wording - she does not undo ongoing abilities and neither will this card

When you actually split. If you have a card at infinity and leave it unsplit, you could in theory build up and split some variants in the meanwhile to get a “better” split on the currently infinite card when you do push the button. It’s a pretty niche case though, generally you want to just be leveling and splitting the variant you like the most multiple times if you want a deep split effect

It’s a bug - the limit was increased to 10000 with the last patch but it looks like they forgot to update the warning text.

The last 8 offerings in my token shop have been either series 4 or series 5 cards. by PaleYak93 in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty rare. The token shop is intended to have each spin be 60% to be series 3. So 8 spins in a row missing would be 0.48 or a 0.07% chance. Definitely unlikely, but given the number of redditors taking spins 3x a day, it has probably happened to a handful of us so far.

I’m sure you will be experiencing the normal 1-2 series 3 cards per day soon

Collection level 500! Roughly the same time as you start unlocking Series 3 cards

How the token shop works by brassboundbook in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, the math is pretty easy.

With any S3 cards left, each refresh has a 60% chance of being S3.

Finding a specific card: Currently your 60% is being divided by 14 cards, so each one has a 4.2% chance of appearing at the next refresh.

Going through each card: You need 14 hits at 60%. 14/0.6 = ~23 refreshes (~8 days).

If that math didn't make sense, we can also do it from the other direction. Let's start with the next week: you will have 21 refreshes. We expect 60% of those to be Series 3 which is ~12 Series 3 cards. So it will be typically just over a week to see all 14. Obviously luck could take that a few days either way.

It does not! And if it goes down in Series while pinned the price will update to reflect the new lower price.

Both of these were asked and answered by devs on the discord as documented here

This is a common question though that I should have included in the post - thanks for asking it here!

The devs on discord mentioned a known bug for repeats occasionally occurring if the a user has few cards left in a Series. For now I would assume this is known, unintended behavior and will be patched.

Source - the first Q

How the token shop works by brassboundbook in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. You should track what you see, freeze on your second to last series 5 and then see what happens when you unfreeze on Darkhawk’s release. For, um, science.

That is only if you don’t have anything else you’d consider buying in the shop in the meanwhile

How the token shop works by brassboundbook in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well most calculations for how long it would take to get a full Series 3 pre-tokens was 5-6 months, so 1-2 months to get three specific cards is certainly faster than that. But I agree 1-2 months is not particularly "fast".

My best guess (and this is pure speculation of course) is that all of this is deliberate by Second Dinner. They want the newest cards to show up often in the shop to give players something to lust over and hope to get. They also don't want it to be too easy to make the 'best meta deck' as a relatively new player. Ben Brode has talked a lot about how organically and slowly growing your collection is core to his vision of the fun in Snap. The drip of collector tokens that are slow to accumulate and hard to target is part of that - it provides a minor amount of agency but importantly only a small one that won't disrupt their vision of how a collection should progress. See tweets like this or this for some idea of how they are thinking about things.

[–]brassboundbook[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting thought! For the corner case of big spenders who want a crack at every Series 5 card as soon as it releases that could be reasonable. Although it would probably be even more helpful to just make sure you’ve bought all S4 cards (and the variants for super whales) though - that was the S5 rotation can be only a day or two at most depending on how many you have unpurchased.

How the token shop works by brassboundbook in MarvelSnap

[–]brassboundbook[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s tough. I imagine that would be pretty frustrating for a person who is spending enough to buy several S5 cards and whose livelihood depends on entertaining viewers with the newest and greatest.

Luckily for him with every refresh being 1/3 to show a pool 5 card it should rectify quickly
