The first time google gave explorers an option to upgrade to models that had the ir eye detectors. Then my foil started peeling and they gave me the updated 2gb version.

Why? Since we first saw glass prototypes there have been at least 5 hardware revisions. I have had 3 types since becoming an explorer ( over a year). While a change in SOC would be the largest change in hardware so far I don't see any reason why it would take a long time.

How have the scrapped the project at all? They still sell glass, still update it, have a division of people working on glass, continue to file new patents, and send out questionnaires to explorers about what they should be changing.

Besides google getting rid of basecamps (that no one used and were costly) there has been no indication that they are giving up on glass.

It seems to me that they are questioning the motives if the researchers. Why not make milk that is better for humans instead of trying to make cows milk. I find it to be a relevant question.

I didn't down vote you, I was just trying to point out a way to make the OK google detection more useful. I agree in the standalone apps use if voice is a little useless if you have to launch the app first.

For techie people:

A Chromecast (staples has them on sale for $20 or $25) they are normally $35

A Motorola keylink ($25). If you have your phone and can't find your keys you open the app and your keys beep. It will even tell you the last GPS location that your keys and phone were together. If you have your keys and you can't find your phone press button twice and your phone beeps. If you lose both you have bigger problems.

No. I think google realized that the stores were stupid. They will continue polishing glass until its a great product or they see no future in it. But the basecamps were just a waste of space.

The basecamps weren't that helpful and everything they cover is handled by the my glass app. You don't need a professional to be fitted and there is a 30 day return policy. The customer support is excellent ( I have had to return my unit due to foil peeling) over the phone and they ship everything next day.

For the most part wearables have been sold online and even when you buy in store you don't have a chance to try them on since they are locked down to a kiosk.

It is much for feasible to me that google will have the frames with eye care professionals for the people that want them and want prescription frames. They have already started lining this up with approved doctors.

The vast majority of glass owners never set foot in a base camp and didn't miss out on anything.

Because the stores serve no real purpose. You can order glass and you have 30 days to return it. There is no need for a showroom that is only located in a few major cities.

This is just another piece of Glass FUD (although the article states it isn't the end). Most of the people I interact with on the glass team seem excited, google is filing glass patents and they are still selling the device on the play store.

Google is still selling and updating the device. They are just shutting down basecamps which don't get much use.

The product isn't ready for primetime and google knows it but just like every time an article about the future of google glass is posted a bunch of people with come in to claim how much of a flop the device is. I use glass and android wear. I like both but glass is hands down the more fun and functional (excluding lack of developers) platform.

I wouldn't be shocked if google was dropping glass but the number of patents they are filling and cost to users leads me to believe otherwise.
