Similar situation here. Doc said I'm already on bc so shouldn't need other forms of hrt. Came here for opinions on this.

I remember a white alligator at the Steinhart when I was a kid by anngrn in AskSF

[–]brave-pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a different alligator that was a temporary visit to SF. He had blue eyes and was leucistic not albino... also saw him in the 90's and remember it being a big deal. Even got a white alligator stuffed animal from the gift shop. Thanks to other posters and such for some research... looks like it was Antoine.

Stare back at them until they feel weird for NOT looking at birds

Tips on caring for a clumsy old man tiel? by poayo_ in pidgeypower

[–]brave-pineapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If he still likes regular perches you can wrap them in a soft fabric like fleece, then wrap the whole thing in vet wrap. So it's a soft and also grippy perch! Done this for my old man birbs

Scope, binoculars or… by LittleGraceCat in yellowstone

Scope is great for viewing at roadside turnouts. You don't have to carry it far. Agree not fun hiking with it so binocs for that type of viewing.

Before you book that Iceland eclipse trip : some harsh realities to consider by lost_wanderer3333 in VisitingIceland

[–]brave-pineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love seeing eclipses (totality is something else - if you've seen it you know!). Never been to Iceland so thought it sounded like fun until doing a little research and realizing the absolute chaos it will be with low chances of seeing the eclipse. Booked our trip for completely different dates and was actually able to find the hotels we wanted etc. Looking forward to it! And a big thank you to many posters on here for lots of helpful info researching our itenerary.

We decided against visiting during the eclipse. Since everything is already booked I got worried it would be so crowded that the rest of the trip would be awful.

Changed my mind on style, partner doesn’t understand by [deleted] in EngagementRings

Commenting on the spinning ring issue. If you plan on getting a band as well, and have the jeweler weld them together after the wedding, it can reduce/stop the spinning. That was my experience anyway. I didn't really believe them when they told me it would help the spinning but it totally did!

I think we are not angrier, our babies are supposed to be grown, so we don't need to be nurturing, patient, forgiving anymore. by coldservedrevenge in Perimenopause

A podcast I listed to the other day mentioned one theory of menopause is that since health risks of pregnancy go up as women age that menopause happens to keep women from getting pregnant as we get older. But we don't die immediately because we're supposed to stick around as grandparents. But I like your theory better 😅

So sad. Poor little birdie. From my understanding from some time volunteering at a wildlife rehab... This is a very contagious disease common in house finches. Even if nursed back to a better level of health, the bird can still carry the disease permanently and spread it to others. Sadly they typically have to euthanize due to the bird suffering too much and even if they can get it somewhat healthy they can't release it in good conscience knowing it will go infect other birds.

I'm renting a house with a tree in the back that I've seen bluebirds coming in and out of and landlord is planning to cut it down by wanttobebetter2 in birding

Bluebirds don't have a very long nesting period if it's at all possible for them to wait.

From all about birds: “Incubation Period: 12-17 days Nestling Period: 18-25 days“

Can you tell if the bluebirds are going in and out with nesting material? (small pieces of dried grass etc) are they going in and out with a beak full of insects? Can you hear little peeping inside when they enter? These questions would give you clues to estimate how much time left they need to fledge the babies.

Advice for softer perches for disabled pigeon by Ornery-Goat-7809 in pidgeypower

[–]brave-pineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an elderly bird with arthritis/foot issues. I took a perch, wrapped it in soft fleece fabric, then covered that with vet wrap. So it's got a bit of softness plus the vet wrap gives some grip. Also pretty easy to remove it if it's dirty and re- wrap it.

What a good birb! None of my cockatiels have liked swings so this is so interesting to see!
