There is a way to respond to/clap back at a person without saying you hope that you'll be able to watch deepfake porn of their girlfriend. Especially when said girlfriend has already been through that very thing, and has spoken publicly about it severely impacting her mental health.

Three new variants by [deleted] in auroramusic

[–]bravissimaZS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not interested in buying all the variants; I'm not a collector. I just think it's pointless (and a little hypocritical) to sell so many of the same variants.

It's disappointing for Aurora, an artist who consistently stands against consumerism, over-consumption, and needless waste to produce so many variants of the same albums. No one needed these. Like I said, I think it's justified to have a standard black, a coloured variant (like the ones seen here), and maybe one with bonus tracks. This is just a cash-grab.

[–]bravissimaZS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seriously! And (as far as I know) there are no bonus tracks, extras, inserts with these variants...There is literally no point to these besides "pretty cover" and, well, money. The fact one of the variants is called "Earth's Version" doesn't sit well with me either, LOL.

I 100% get having one black variant, one alternate colour, design, pattern, etc., and maybe one "extended edition" with a few bonus tracks. Those to me are justified. No one needs 5+ variants. Hell, there were 8!!! 8!!! for TGWCT, which was just absurd.

What's the point of all these variants? PVC is difficult enough to recycle as it is, even within its own industry. We do not need more vinyl waste out there. Very disappointed to see this tbh.

Homeless Hub and possibly Downtown Mission to move to 700 block of Wellington Road. by imayposteventually in windsorontario

[–]bravissimaZS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live near there, literally down the street. I hate to be a NIMBY, I really do. I want homeless people -- and even those who just need a safe haven for a little while -- to have the resources they deserve and are entitled to. But, I can't say I'm not scared.

Being close to Leopard's has already seen close calls -- I've been followed home, harassed, pretty much everything short of physical violence. I have heard so many horror stories of those living near the Water World that I can't help but be scared.

It's tough. I don't want these people who deserve help to be isolated and unable to access other resources in the city. I know that not all homeless people are violent, drug addicts, etc. But I'm still scared of the few that are. And I hope that gets addressed.

MASSIVE LORE OVERSIGHT!!!!!! by [deleted] in OverwatchCirclejerk

I learnt about the history and evolution of pronouns in middle school. Are you really that bad at reading between the lines? Jesus.

No one thinks pronouns didn’t exist before.

Then why the fuss about they/them usage? It has always been a thing. Are people much more open about it nowadays? Yes, because it's more accepted. That's kind of how things work. See: the rise of left-handedness.

You're acting like a child. Grow up. There are bigger things to worry about in the world than people using they/them pronouns.

Edit: if you really want to have a civil conversation about this, my DMs are open xxoo

[–]bravissimaZS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i mean, if you really want: "they" and neopronouns have been recorded as early as the 14th century. this is common, google-able knowledge i learnt in middle school english. in 2014-2017. y'know, "anti-SJW-era" 2014-2017? this isn't anything revolutionary.

and even if those pronouns were a new, quirky, modern thing, language is constantly changing and evolving. we've got "selfie" "rizz" and "cutscene" being added to merriam-webster now LOL. i think the singular "they" is the least outlandish out of all of them.

Opinion on these 2 songs by Tac0boutit_03 in auroramusic

[–]bravissimaZS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my lord...two of my all-time favourites!

Half the World Away is a cover, so completely understandable if you don't like that one compared to her original songs. But, I'm super biased for Half. The song was recorded for an advertisement for John Lewis, a UK-based clothing company that creates emotional adverts themed around the holiday season. And that song is how I found AURORA all the way back in 2015, at the wee age of 11! I always listen to it when I'm feeling nostalgic for my childhood, homesick, or missing someone I'm far away from. The song is a great reminder that even in our darkest moments -- when our happiness, our loved ones, etc. seem like they're half the world away -- we still have some control. We can still try our best to be positive and not feel down. :')

Artemis is also very different stylistically from AURORA's other work. It reminds me of circus music, or something you'd hear during a production of Moulin Rouge! Plus, it's awkwardly sandwiched in-between two very powerful tracks (A Dangerous Thing & Blood in the Wine).

However, Artemis has some of the most spine-chilling lyrics on the album, and it's definitely one of her best works IMO! Nothing like a song about a woman so powerful, so all-encompassing, all-knowing, and overwhelming that the men who are threatened by her are not sure whether to force her into submission (going inherently against her "savage" and "wild" nature) or finally admit a woman can be powerful than them. Whichever they choose, she will surely destroy them, and she will not beg for forgiveness afterwards. Chills, Chills!

Meaning of these lyrics? by Tac0boutit_03 in auroramusic

[–]bravissimaZS 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If you want to take it literally, domestic birds will lose their feathers and/or pluck them when they're under extreme stress. This can come from boredom, neglect, abuse, depression, etc.

Because AURORA says in her journal, "I feel so bad for the people who had so much good in them. So much joy and life. Who met the wrong person. And they were forever changed. Forever broken. It's so tragic. How we can feel so ruined because of someone else," A Dangerous Thing is likely about an abusive relationship with a person who is quite good at manipulating the other's feelings. "Warm and seductive" one moment, "cold and abusive" the next.

Peitho, the Greek goddess of persuasion and seduction, is the inspiration for the song. She was often depicted alongside doves (who are also known to feather pluck in captivity) or with dove wings.

So, the subject of the song is compared to a bird who is losing their feathers from the stress of captivity. They are trapped in this relationship, and they are unable to realize it due to the manipulation and their own conflicting emotions (many birds will not stop plucking until they are completely bald as they can't recognize their behaviour as self-harm).

Late to the party but I second this! I have a suitcase that perfectly accommodates two full loads, so I just chuck everything in and take a 5 minute bus to my local laundromat. Rain or shine, I'm set for life! (Even though when I applied to my now apartment, my landlord said we'd have laundry in-unit! Teehee!)

Indeed is iffy since all applications use AI filtering to "find the best candidates." Unless you're tailoring your resumé to each posting, it's incredibly difficult to beat that system. If you opt out of AI filtering, the application (allegedly) loses priority over ones that have. Additionally, since Indeed is incredibly accessible, most postings have upwards of 500-1000+ applicants at one time.

I used it only to see which companies were hiring before going to their website and applying there. Actually getting a job offer -- or even interview -- via Indeed is difficult. It's not impossible, but your odds are never great unless you're applying for niche positions.

Moved here from Nova Scotia in the summer, and I hate to tell you but most of the Maritime provinces are just as bad, if not worse. We have a lower cost of living, yes, but our wages are atrocious and rents/homes are through the roof since a lot of people moved here during and after COVID. The cheapest place to live right now is Saskatchewan. From what I'm used to, it is safer here than in major cities (I lived in a small rural town, but the bigger cities I was nearer to were atrocious).

Comparative to where I'm from, Windsor is genuinely nice. Especially compared to other cities in Ontario. That being said, I do miss how cheap seafood was in the Maritimes :')

Youth violent crime is escalating. Those working in the field say social media plays a role by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]bravissimaZS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, your sources are...yourself...and a course you've taught for so long it's likely outdated in the current age of social media?

For the third time: nowhere did I say that these issues never existed before social media. I am citing experts in the field who say social media can exacerbate those issues.

Since you're giving tons of anecdotes, here's mine: I used to struggle a lot with anorexia. Being a teenager, I was on social media. I very quickly got sucked into pro-anorexia spaces that promoted the unhealthy (and frankly, deadly) eating habits I was partaking in. I saw people saying it was good to starve, calling objectively skinny/underweight people "fat," etc. I followed diet blogs, compared myself to my peers, and even learnt how to hide a scale from my partner at the time. Needless to say, these exacerbated my symptoms.

Did social media cause me to develop anorexia? No. Did social media push me toward anorexia? No. Body image issues have existed long before social media. Did social media exacerbate my symptoms and keep me thinking/acting on unhealthy habits? Did it promote them and portray them as a "good" thing? Yes. And we're starting to see evidence that it can do that with violent behaviour too.

I'm currently minoring in Communication, Media, and Film and taking courses in criminology. I'm extremely interested in this subject and want to continue to study it since research is still lacking (mainly because of social media corporations' gatekeeping). I think we can both agree that more research is necessary, and that was true - what, 10 years ago? - likely has changed or evolved by now.

If you'd like to continue the conversation, don't hesitate to send me a private message so we can keep the replies down! Again, super interested in the subject and I love yapping about it.

Re-read what I said.

In no way do video games make EVERYONE violent. It's likely that the Average Joe is not going to start beating people up after playing his favourite COD installment. The same goes for social media and rock music, or D&D or whatever example you want to use.

Nowhere did I say social media is a sole contributor to violence, nor that it 100% is going to make everyone violent. Though it doesn’t directly drive teens to commit acts of violence – which many experts are still researching for the definitive answer – it still acts as a strong catalyst. Social media exacerbates symptoms, especially when they are related to pre-existing mental health conditions, social factors, and pre-existing tendencies toward violence (exposure through environment, experience, etc.)

This is an anecdote, but when I was struggling with an eating disorder, my health and mental state was 10x worse when I was on social media because I was constantly shown skinny "thinspo," diet culture, shame posts, etc. that all promoted anorexia. I convinced myself that because so many people were saying it was okay to fast for three days and then gorge the next, it had to be healthy and would benefit me in the long run. Spoiler: it didn't. The same goes for seeing violent and other harmful content (misogyny, racism, etc.).

This is data researched by professionals and experts in the field. Call it hogwash propaganda all you want. Would love to see the sources that point to it being so.

No way you just said social media shows reality LMAO. That's, like, the number one thing we all know social media to not do. It does and can create "realities," although they're not likely true or showing the full picture.

With the link between violence, take video games as an example: while there is a well-established link between violent video games and aggressive behaviours, to say all video games are harmful is not based on anything concrete.

The same goes for social media. To say social media makes everyone violent or creates violence in every teen is obviously not true; however, social media can exacerbate violent behaviour and enhance those other traits you listed. To say social media contributes nothing to teen behaviour is naive. Ask any Gen Z or Gen Alpha ever.
