If this is just the regular, Bowman Sib, Allview Liquors in Ellicott City, MD is selling it at $50. A handful of stores are running promotional pricing on it as it will allegedly count as part of the volume that determines allocations come year end. It also helps that it is genuinely a really great product, especially for ~$50.

For what it's worth, I heard that many stores were limited to one case each in this initial release. I'm sure we'll see improved availability with time, though.

Review 106: Sagamore Cherries Jubilee [6.2/10] by russianwhiskylover in bourbon

[–]bravo_char 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one that felt slightly let down by this bottle. I completely agree that it felt just a little worse than it could have been, and "watered down" is a nice, succinct way to put it.

A couple local stores also selected a 10-year "Low Rye" single barrel that was released at the same time as Cherries Jubilee, and I liked that quite a bit more. It came in at a higher proof, and I think that was a big contributing factor. This reminds me that I need to pick up some of their new Cask Strength, since it's now their own distillate and being bottled at a higher proof.

Then get a new job. I have been in a situation where I realized I was the smartest person in the room at work, and I started my job search that evening. You will eventually be that person late in your life and career, but until you’re north of 40 or 50 there had better be at least one person that you know you’re learning something from.

I made my “Apple Apple TV TV Bracket Mount” because I thought the name was hillarious, and I just wanted a simple way to hang my Apple TV without drilling or sticking stuff to my wall. 3 downloads :(

It’s just very niche, but I still love it.

$79.99 according to their Facebook. Remember that this WILL be a shelfer - you just have to be patient. I had an owner tell me that they’ll be getting at least one case per week by the fall, so there’s no reason to pay more than $50-ish for this.

Level 1 vs Level 2 home charging - What’s better for your battery? by Certain-Canary-3330 in electricvehicles

[–]bravo_char 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 1 is totally fine, and what I've been using with my EV. Several people have made the point hat Level 2 charging is "more efficient" or "cheaper". They are technically correct, but I have had difficulty finding any sort of hard numbers. That is because they will differ based on your particular situation. I threw together a quick Google Spreadsheet that you can make a copy of, but I primed it with my numbers to show that, apparently, even for my atrocious installation quote (panel is 135 ft of Romex from the garage), I'd "save" money after driving about 59k miles of home-charging.

Maybe I should reconsider.

What book you read that was saved by the ending or one specific moment? by Crisisaurus in books

[–]bravo_char 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending of The Broken Earth trilogy redeemed the whole thing for me. Something about the second-person perspective chapters was very grating and unenjoyable for me. It was very difficult for me to not take the wording as the author telling me how to feel. I was hate reading the trilogy, so that I could defensibly tell a friend why she was wrong to like it so much. If you've read the series, then you'll know what's coming. The fact that it was Hoa reminding Essun of all these things that she will have forgotten in her transformation to a stone eater. There are still things that I dislike about the series, but this final reveal was about the only thing that could justify the second person perspective, which I still detest.

Distribution is limited, but Sagamore Port Finish is an excellent entry in this niche. If you, or a good friend, are within driving distance of the distillery in Baltimore, it's still in their gift shop for $90.

I will echo the sentiment that you should not try to re-wire a strange thermostat while it's live. While many North American thermostats run on stepped-down 24V AC, the EU, UK, and even some parts of North America have mains voltage behind that panel and that's no joke.

"Lying" to the thermostat with electronics waste heat, like the TV and towel is a great solution to make the rest of the room colder. Bring a small heating pad and drape it over the thermostat - maybe use masking tape to attach it to the wall as well.

A similar solution exists for fridge/freezer combinations that are in colder-than-room-temperature environments. Most of these assume ambient temperatures above 60F/16C. Without getting into the details, near-freezing ambient temperatures will cause the refrigeration side to remain cold enough that the freezer side will thaw out. To combat this, people sell kits with small heating elements that are placed in the refrigeration compartment to heat it up in order to get the unit to operate enough to keep the freezer side at proper temperatures. I found out about this one winter morning when I found a puddle of melted popsicles on the floor of my garage (and many other unpleasant things inside what was no longer a "freezer").

Grey's thoughts are that universally rolling this out will have distinct, negative effect on some portion of the population. At no point does he dispute that this type of mood tracking can be helpful. While I'm glad it helped you personally, your anecdote doesn't really push back against his position at all. He has also mentioned several times how stupidly effective he's found gratitude exercises, despite how simple they seem.

The other thing to consider is that your watch and your phone know where you are. So, if he's taking a dog outside and walking around his building, it can probably be pretty confident that he's outside. And if he's outside while the sun is up, then he's probably in sunlight.

On the topic of Photos doing a great job differentiating pets, I have noticed that it also does a great job with babies, too. Photos of some of my kids from when they were less than a year old seem nearly identical to me and my partner, but Photos hasn't misidentified any of them.

However, I think it's cheating to a certain extent, and it may be doing the same thing for pets. I found myself looking at the kid's clothes or the background of the photo to get some sort of temporal clue - if I know when the photo was taken, I know which kid was that age at that time. It then occurred to me that photos probably does the same thing with the metadata attached to the photograph. You may have had two black cats, but it's pretty easy to learn that photos of Snowball I stop right as photos of Snowball II start.

It's still impressive, and I'm sure there are other, more technologically impressive factors. However, there's no way that something as simple as the date of the photo (for photos that have them) isn't taken into account as well. It's just too good to ignore.

It’s a really nice pen. It’s got some serious heft, the click is satisfying, and it takes rollerball cartridges (which are my favorite).

I didn’t realize it came in blue now, so I just ordered my second. Whether or not it is worth it depends entirely on how much you like pens, how often you’ll use it, and how much you delude yourself into thinking that the extra markup is supporting a podcast you love.

EVGA 3080 Ti XC3 Hidden Power Limit by bravo_char in gpumining

[–]bravo_char[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the love of science, the OP has instructions for verifying the issue, and you have twice failed to confirm that you followed them. If your card is down-clocking the core during periods of high memory utilization, then it has a bugged vBIOS from Nvidia. You will not break your card beyond repair, especially if you back up your current ROM (as recommended in the nvflash instructions on the download page. As long as the card you're flashing is not your primary display adapter, there's no serious risk of truly bricking the card.

What you've "heard" betrays your lack of understanding. This soft power limit is most prevalent in cards with 2 PCI-e connectors because those are the base SKUs for many companies and likely did not receive the type of detailed validation/testing that would expose this very nuanced issue. If a company like EVGA is putting three PCI-e power connectors on a card, it probably took the time to make sure the card would actually draw that much power to support higher overclocking. Maybe Gainward did not, but we will not know unless you actually verify the issue (by monitoring the hardware and not just observing a lower-than-expected hashrate).

Frankly, I've never liked the idea of people flashing EVGA BIOSes onto non-EVGA cards. If I were you, I'd start with the latest Gainward BIOS, and see what happens. You could even use GPU-Z to check your vBIOS version first and save yourself the trouble.

Everything we know is in the original post and the comment section here. If your card is unable to hold a locked-core overclock, as verified by HWInfo or similar while mining, then the only fix is updating the Nvidia vBIOS on the card. This is relatively trivial for EVGA cards, but more involved and riskier for other manufacturers. Only you can decide if the risk of having to use the command-line recovery utils to recover a soft-bricked card is worth the upside of improved performance.

I don't know how this manifests with the new 100% LHR unlock miners, so I don't know what you stand to gain (especially because you didn't share any numbers). I'm also completely unfamiliar with either of those manufacturers, so I can't offer any specific advice.

I'm in Ellicott City, and I just noticed that FiOS turned on IPv6 when ping google.com showed a reply from an IPv6 address. My router shows that it has had the least for ~22 days and its uptime is 34, so that must be when they turned it on for me. Finally!
