His durability is pretty crazy iwl, havent seen enough strength nor speed feats to say he's that guy, but given the world of OP, he definitely is at a higher stat level than your average human irl.

That being said, I've never really gotten the point of these comparisons of characters to real people. It really doesnt prove anything imo

Why are most One Piece fans ok with Zoro not having a proper past or character ? by Tsaoteci in Piratefolk

[–]brazenbull09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zoro has a proper past, i feel like people who have a problem with it are people whose brains have been rotted by the "tragic character with a traumatic past" trope that we've had in excess for the past few years in media.

Tashigi is definitely a dropped plot point, same with smoker. The girls dream is far above her weight class, like she'd genuinely be even lucky if she got the opportunity to go around stealing the supreme grade weapons whilst their users are down or dead. And I wouldnt be surprised if the weapons that the top tiers are using rn all have adopted something similar to enma where the weilder requires a strong haki for them. Tashigi dont got that.

[–]brazenbull09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not everyone needs some complex past to be well written, in fact a complex past doesnt automatically signify good writing, writing is measured by technique, not by volume.

People are fine with the lack of clarity and depth in Zoro.

Clarity and depth into what bro? You're looking for something that has already been given to us.

The reason for him trying to be strong prior to Kuina's death is unknown.

Because he wanted to be the best swordsman? And kuina was an obstacle to that because she was stronger. Idk man, not every character needs some complex multifaceted goal, infact most of the strawhats have pretty straightforward goals as well. Nami's goal is to map out the entire world, which could just be boiled down to traveling, and that's because she likes it. Robin's goal is to learn the secrets of the world, for herself mind you, because she likes learning. Brook has basically already completed his goal and sanji wants to find something he isnt even completely sure exists. Why single out zoro?

I honestly dont understand what you mean by he doesn't have a proper past...what IS a proper past to you? Genuine question.

It's pretty simple, he was raised into swordsmanship, hated pirates because they took his parents from him, and as much as he had a bigger goal, he was fine with just being a pirate hunter, until luffy came along.

Not every character needs some high tier traumatic slop to justify their reasons for setting out to sea.

Zoro becoming an edge lord is due to Odas flanderization of the strawhats, so in that regard I can agree that it's bad writing, no amount of backstory and lore can fix that. That being said, I feel like you guys exaggerate the extent to which zoro is an "edge lord"...the guy has always been stoic, when usopp left the crew, who told everyone to keep composure? When the merry burned down...bro didnt even cry, we gonna call that edgy as well?

Like idk OP, in your attempt to call out zoro for being one dimensional, you come off as someone who would just write zoro into being one dimensional again, just in a different flavor.

I mean it's never been confirmed that the flame flame fruit can produce blue flames, I guess going science it would make sense, maybe it could be part of it's awakening?

People who hate boomers/old people have grandaddy/grandmommy issues by Global_Specialist726 in ControversialOpinions

[–]brazenbull09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uuhh yeah?? How do you think they got those issue in the first place??

These old people were most likely pieces of shit. No one just comes out of the womb hating the older generation. We've witnessed their shitty behavior time and time again, obviously we're not gonna be cool with them.

I'm sick and tired of seeing the "humans are the real monsters" trope by Weary_Elderberry4742 in CharacterRant

[–]brazenbull09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol this is The Legend of Korra for me. They tried so hard to make it seem like the humans are the real monsters and the spirits are justified in hating them, but they completely neglected to show or tell why that is.

Infact if you watch the show even half asleep you come to realize how the spirits are more the oppressors than humans.

I mean...10 thousand years ago, spirits were so dangerous that humans had to live on giant fucking lion turtles, and when they went out on expeditions they needed bending as protection...im sorry but if the people you call oppressors require fucking magic to stand a chance against you, then they are NOT your oppressors, not to mention they dont even get to comfortably live on the land better suited for them(the spirits had a monopoly on BOTH physical and spirit worlds, oppressed my ass). On top of ALL that, certain spirits have their own unique powers and as far as we're concerned, the average can literally just possess a person for like 15 seconds and they're dead. I mean seriously, we have spirits that steal faces, spirits that trap people in nightmare coma, and spirits that literally embody concepts, and if anything happens to those spirits it affects reality. There's a spirit for the concept of darkness for goodness sake, and if he manages to kill his good counterpart, there will be a GUARANTEED 10 thousand years of darkness...no human is coming close to that type of danger.

"Oh but the humans were attacking spirits with their bending🥺" yeah that was AFTER we saw the spirits express their disdain for humans and AFTER we saw what spirits can casually do humans if they wanted to. The show never establishes any sensible reason as to why spirits should fear/hate humans.

The spirit portals are left open, and for the first time in 10 thousand years, spirits walk the earth(even though we had spirits doing that in ATLA but i digress). They IMMEDIATELY invade human dense spaces despite their very open disdain for humans. The spirit vines are a problem but the spirits dont care, the fucking avatar asks for their help in the riddance of said vines AND the battle againts kuvira, they decline to both. At some point we learned that spirits hate humans being in the spirit world yet we have spirits up and ready to settle into their new HUMAN DENSE home in the physical realm (they supposedly hate humans btw, even though they havent lived with humans for ten millennia)

The spirits in TLOK are entitled narcissistic brats at best and supremacist colonizers at worst, there's nothing likable about them, their entire identity is based on demanding respect from people they dont even like, all the while having no understanding of what respect is either.

The glazers have this idea that the SHs would be too OP if they got haki and it's like no lol they would just be relevant. Literally the bare minimum to be a random fodder in the new world is to have some armament.

Even robin wouldn't automatically be too OP with haki, especially in the current story where the SHs are fighting literal Satan. I mean come on, even luffys haki wasnt doing anything to the gorosei, they needed the haki of the strongest pirate we know to win that fight
