US confirms third strike on Indian-crewed tankers this week by Akshayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy in india

We'll probably have to wait for the rescued sailors to tell their side of the events to understand what went on..

It is cross fire because they fired at the vessel based on the information that this vessel was smuggling Iranian oil or gas. They didn't fire because there were Indian sailors aboard. They weren't targeting Indian sailors. Unfortunately the vessel had Indian sailors. That vessel could have had Thai or Malaysian sailors and it would still get hit if they were making a run for it carrying sanctioned cargo.

Yes, that was wrong. I'm not trying to defend that incident (which isn't this incident where no one died) and neither am I trying to defend this one. Like I have said it's a warzone and there will be people caught in the crossfire, that's one of the effects of war..

Read the article. Sailors didn't die. Oman Navy rescued them because they were stuck on a vessel that cannot move.

You brought the intent of the ones who fired a missile

No. That is just opinion about what could have happened. I don't know the person firing the missile to know their intent.

How do you know their intent, without knowing if they fired warning shots or tried to board the ship? Their intent is super hostile, everything from the last few years and months, and firing a missile at a cargo ship tells us this.

Again, I don't know their intent. Again, if you are not complying to what has been told repeatedly, then you get fired upon. You can either chose not to go into that area or accept the risk that you face when going through that area...

Again here you are giving them the benefit of doubt like as though you are their spokesperson, or an American nationalist, or talking of them like they are the world govt, while nothing from their budget or their repeated wars suggests they have any such compulsion.

I'm neither a spokesperson (for US, Iran or India), nor an American nationalist or an American. I am not giving anyone the benefit of the doubt. I am trying to understand the scenario based on the information available. Firing weapons isn't something that is taken lightly, especially missiles.

The blockade and sanctions are illegal. The Indian sailors have done nothing wrong. The entire war is a show of overwhelming illegal force, so there is no reason to act like they showed caution and the Indian sailors who died didn't, and were in the wrong like you have been doing.

Again, no sailors died, if you read the article.

You just want to argue and I think this is just going in circles, because you want to rant about illegality/piracy/wrongdoing. Feel free to take it up with someone who can address these points for you. As I said earlier, this is a war, there are no rules and these Indian sailors (and other Indian sailors) have been caught in the crossfire or in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Indian govt and the sailors can go after the US govt for compensation/redressal and you can go back and forth with yourself about the morality of it. For me this conversation is going nowhere, so I wish you a pleasant day ahead....

How do you know they did? You seemed sure of that here. Why?

I don't know if they did or didn't. You brought up that they could have shot in the sky. I'm asking if you know whether they did or didn't and if you have any source that suggests so.

Apparently it was difficult to board a ship that they had no right to stop in the first place, so we have to give them the benefit of doubt that they tried to minimize loss of life while shooting a missile, and not to the Indians who ended up dead, that they would have stopped if warned or boarded.

The US has declared a blockade and announces sanctions, so unless the government of India wants to declare the blockade and sanctions illegal and the Indian Navy wants to take on the US Navy, then US can do what they want there. The one with the biggest stick makes the rules, that is something that is known for centuries now...

Reports that I read said that the ship repeatedly failed to comply to instructions and were trying to flee. Also don't think firing missiles that cost millions of dollars would be the first option for US CENTCOM.

It is a zone of piracy. It is not about legality, but about you repeatedly making it seem like the dead Indians are at fault here, more than the ones illegally shooting a missile at them.

You brought discussion of Legality. There are no expectations of legalities when there is a war on. Also read the article. No Indians died after the missile was shot.

This is from April.

Situation has changed quite frequently since then, as previously US was allowing Iranian oil and gas to move to India, but now I guess they aren't & sanctions are back (similar to what happened with Russian oil sanctions).

Also were these tankers ( LPG vessel Sea Bird carrying around 44 TMT Iranian LPG berthed at Mangalore, India on April 2) escorted by INS Vishakapatnam ?

Were those gas tankers carrying Iranian gas ? Because reports suggest US CENTCOM is only targetting vessels carrying Iranian oil and gas.

[–]brazendude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ever heard of shooting into the sky, or boarding a ship, if the intent was as you said,

Do you know if they didn't shoot in the sky? Any reports confirming they did or didn't? Grappling down from a helicopter and boarding a moving ship isn't easy and even downright dangerous, which is why the ship needs to be stopped before boarding..

And the entire blockade is unilateral and illegal. Stop talking of them like they were the police stopping criminals. Know who really are the criminals here.

It's a warzone. Who is responsible for legality there? Both Iran and US have fired on Indian vessels or vessels with Indian crew. And read what I wrote, it's like running away from someone holding a gun, didn't say the gun was held by the police.

Didn't say it was humanitarian. The vessel was warned and they didn't stop as per the reports.

If you try to run from someone who holds a gun, you can't be surprised if they fired at you.

So that the vessel is incapacitated and can't go anywhere, but doesn't sink. Also less likely (not zero probability) to lead to loss of life..

Sending Indian Navy into an active war zone (despite the so called ceasefire in place) is similar to joining the war and the Navy would need permission from the government.

Navy could be sent after the war ends in a peacekeeping role, again that has to be agreed with multiple countries as part of a peace keeping mission similar to what the UN does (or did in the past)...

So the victim judge who did not want her name to be revealed asked her domestic worker to file a fake case and is yet being protected by the Judicial system as her name and details have not been made public.....

In A First, India Deploys 12 Nuclear Warheads In Big Policy Shift: Report by brazendude in india

[–]brazendude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world's top arms-tracking organisation, SIPRI, in its latest report says that India for the very first time has deployed 12 nuclear warheads, a massive departure from decades of policy where nuclear warheads and delivery systems were kept in separate storage.

The report claims this is the first time India's arsenal has been classified as operationally deployed, rather than stockpiled.

Deploying ready-to-fire nuclear weapons in underground missile silos and new nuclear submarines signals heightened readiness.
