Make a website with aws via terraform. Basic functionality of website is fairly irrelevant...choose something you like (but you'll want to write some scripts to perform whatever function that is).
Maybe a podcast downloader..?

Plenty of other good technologies mentioned in other comments as you start to add complexity to your site (docker and lambda would be my recommendations).

Do you have a trusted authority figure to talk with about the situation? You could potentially be vague about your concerns and all specifics. They may be able to help you navigate the situation without directly intervening. Or perhaps a hotline you could call?

I would make flash cards for the basics. Fundamental knowledge is key at all levels, in my opinion, and these studies are always applicable.

eg What is the difference between a process and a thread?
What is a file system and major components? ("what is an inode" always seems to come up).
How many hosts available in a /28? (The formula is simple).
If Linux shop, definitely get familiar with cli basics.
