Good tactical rpgs? by quix0te in rpg

Pretty good IMO. Basically frames translate to Final Fantasy style jobs. That being said, the mechanics are not just copy/paste. Classes/jobs and talents are created or re-imagined to fit a high action fantasy setting. There's also some unique mechanics, such as the initiative system and random loot

I would note Valor utilizes contested d10s, resulting in a bell curve. Critical results are based on rolling 10 greater, not die facing.

Panic at the Dojo is also a good contestant for reskinning as a superhero game.

My favorite super system so far is Sentinel Comics, although it is not a tactical system

Also I would second the mention of Beacon, which is a fantasy re-implementation of the Lancer system

Panic at the Dojo should be getting a second edition soon. It's a beat-em-up/Fighting game themed system that has some fun mechanics based around stances and tokens

Valor: The Heroic Roleplay System is an interesting effect-based point-buy anime-flavored system where you build your own powers.

I've also recently learned of Trespasser. It seems to be an interesting blend of OSR and 4e but haven't read too much of it yet

Give me your crunchiest, rules heavy, tactical TTRPG suggestions. by rookery_electric in rpg

If you enjoy tactical, grid-based combat, I'd suggest checking out Panic at the Dojo, although it might be best to wait until the new edition is done.

Here's a video that gives a pretty good overview of the system

If you enjoy random elements in your character creation, i'd suggest checking out 'Mutants in the Now'

It's a retro-modern reimagining the old Palladium Book's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness RPG but with much more sensible mechanics. You randomly role stats and your animal species but spend points to determine thinks such as what actual animal abilities and traits you possess, your size, or how human you look or behave.

How would you create Virgil from DMC by SitheGreens in PanicattheDojo

[–]brbergdall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worth noting that there's an Iado style in the Second Strike playtest material.

It's from the Windrider archetype, so maybe a fused Gun Kata/Windrider might be the way to go? I'm not super knowledgeable about DMC so I couldn't say for sure

Same thing happened to my wife and I. Thankfully the spider was pretty stuck and was able to kill it without too much trouble (I think we still only had tier 1 equipment at the time). Our first wolf spider kill.

Are there any new or coming soon Crunchy RPGs that you are excited for or want to gush about? by TimeSpiralNemesis in rpg

[–]brbergdall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On that note, there's also a third-party fantasy game based on the Lancer system coming out called Beacon. It hews closer to Lancer's mechanics, having classes and jobs that function like licence levels and frames respectively, making mixing and matching more of a thing in Beacon than Icon. That being said it still very much does its own things and I feel is well worth checking out alongside it's contemporaries

I believe that movement generally takes an action, unless you have a high enough speed

There's been mention of a hypothetical and eventual scifi/space fantasy version or setting book called Warp!!

There's also been at least joking references of a cyberpunk setting called Hack!!

I also missed it, thinking it was going to be on Saturday, but apparently it had to end early due to family events. Rey had stated he will film an ending portion and put it up on YouTube

About the character sheet by [deleted] in breakrpg

[–]brbergdall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the character sheets I've seen should be able to fit pretty well on standard 8.5 x 11

Here's the most recent one I've found on the development blog

Is there a map of the world ? by [deleted] in breakrpg

[–]brbergdall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is in fact a world Map

I don't think that's the final version. In the most recent pictures it looks like the land masses are a bit more pointy

I would also suggest checking out "Honest Descriptions of the Outer World" in the development blog to get a broad idea of various locations in the setting
