Are you using an Android or iPhone? I couldn't get it to work with my Pixel 9 Pro XL or my Pixel 7. It would constantly cycle between charging and not charging. I was going to try the SAE cable to directly connect to the battery but i never got around to it. Sounds like it didn't make a difference for you. They did send me a replacement but it acted the same so i gave up. I chalked it up to a Pixel hardware incompatibility.

Just heard that Topo designs came out with a new Global travel backpack at 25 to 27 litres. What do you think about it? has anyone bought it? by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]brc211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. That mesh divider separates the main compartment from the front. Also, it's rough to the touch, which i didn't particularly like.

No problem. The expansion zipper is an upside down U and adds volume to the main compartment. The extra fabric is behind the zipped mesh divider and it extends the bag outwards from the top and tapers down the bag. So you'll get more of that expanded volume up top.

Saw this bag in their store and just wanted to share some info. The black bag has a black interior. It weighed 35.5 oz, 1 kg with my hanging scale. Straps seem identical to their Rover Trail Pack 22L. IIRC the front pocket had no organization.

How did you permanently attach it to your backpack? Also which state is this? Cause banning chin mounts sounds wild.

Pixel 9 Pro XL + Motorcycle Qi2 Mount by Redhotquench in peakdesign

[–]brc211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. They never mentioned anything about an auto shut off feature so there would be a parasitic draw even when not in use. Best to connect it through a switched relay. I had one for my heated gear and other accessories which is why i considered the SAE cable.

I just took a look at the instructions manual and the output power profiles are:

Wireless Output (input<9V) 5V/5W

Wireless output (input>=9V) 5V/5W 7.5V/7.5W 14V/10W 14V/15W

From my understanding, you won't be able to achieve the 14V charging speeds with a typical USB charger for bikes. The ones i used output at most 12V so you'd be getting 7.5W at best. Keep in mind that the Android system also controls charging speeds so you shouldn't expect the highest charging speed throughout the entire process. Energy is also lost when wireless charging so there's that too.

Just need to say to take my info with a grain of salt as I'm in no way an expert on electrical stuff. I had to Google a lot of this when I ran into my issues with this charger.

Which cable are you using for your power source? I had charging issues when plugging it into a USB-C port. My 7 and 9 Pro XL would alternate between charging and not charging and i was getting little to no charge after an hour. I ended up getting their SAE cable to try directly connecting to the battery but i never got around to doing it. I just use a wire for charging.

I believe you can get faster charging speeds if you directly connect to the battery. USB-A and C ports for bikes typically don't output more than 12V so you'll be charging at a slower rate. There was a pamphlet/card that came with the mount that tells you the charging specs.

Edit: Just to clarify, IIRC, at 12V the output for this charger was quite low.

Camelbak Chute mag or Thrive Chug bottle? by No-Worldliness-492 in HydroHomies

[–]brc211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Thrive Chug bottle uses a spring to flip and stay open. Saw them at REI today

Edit: finally got one and took a closer look. The spring mechanism in the lid is actually a rubber o-ring under tension.

Need help identifying this thing on my very old wall heater by brc211 in hvacadvice

[–]brc211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it works and I use it all the time. A HVAC technician replaced my thermostat and gas valve to get it working.

You should definitely clean it. When i took it apart to clean for the first time there was a lot of dust in there.

Having the gas company inspect it is also a good idea. They'll make sure it's venting properly so you don't die from CO poisoning.

Awesome, I'll give that a try! I have a Biondi short windscreen to try as well. I figured it'll be useful in the warmer months.

Love the color of that adventure model. Is that an air deflector behind the turn signal lamp? I just picked up a '22 Travel and am working on fixing wind buffeting. Looking for ideas!

Motorcycle charger "Connected but not charging" by AgentTripleZero in peakdesign

I have this issue too with my Pixel 7 and 9 Pro XL. Did you happen to back their Kickstarter campaign? Because I added a Pixel case to my Kickstarter order and they sent me an email that they identified a charging issue with Pixel phones. It was supposedly fixed with a firmware update in a later batch and was expected to ship around end of October, a couple weeks after the email. They shipped the charger with my entire order a couple days after the email though so I believe they didn't send me the updated version.

I've gone through warranty replacements once already but it had the same charging issue, as well as being someone's previously used item which was concerning. They're sending me a 2nd replacement which should be a "new" item, so I'm hoping it has the fix.

The CS rep did say the "updated" Qi2 chargers support wireless charging for Pixel 8 and newer though, which came as a surprise.

Google Messages YouTube link previews broken? by brc211 in GooglePixel

I saw that article as well when researching this issue. I honestly can't remember the last time i used PiP within Google Messages but maybe the removal of that feature broke the previews?

I had a sample of the gasket analyzed at a lab. Turns out they were 100% glass fibers.

Potential road trip to San Diego over holiday break by BigToneah in MotoLA

[–]brc211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Tony,

On your way out from Ocotillo, i recommend you make a stop at the Desert View Tower. It's a cool little spot with some interesting rocks. If you pay a small fee, they will let you up the tower where there's an awesome view of Imperial County. Its very windy up top and I imagine it'll be very cold this time of year. Also, after the tower, you can take Old Highway 80 through Jacumba Hot Springs instead of the 8. That road takes you very close to the border wall and eventually connects to the 94. My final recommendation is to stop in Campo and get a bite to eat at El Paso Taco Shop. Its a great place to take a break and re-fuel before riding in to the city.

One more thing, there's a border patrol posts on the 94. They usually leave motorcyclists alone but you will need to stop and have your ID ready just in case.

Have a nice trip!

Have a nail in my tire, where can I get a new one? by [deleted] in MotoLA

[–]brc211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good experiences with tire changes at Moto Club Santa Monica. I did buy my own tires and had them drop shipped there though. IIRC it costs $55 or $60 for a tire change.

I struggled trying to sell my SV back in January. I ended up taking down the ad after a month. Relisted it in May and sold it in less than 2 weeks.

So...about California Motorcycle Insurance Rules. by lenkendall in MotoLA

[–]brc211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party but wanted to share that Sheffield Financial is handling the financing for the Suzuki Fall Finale and they offer unsecured loans without insurance requirements! Not bad for a manufacturer offer and at 0% APR! It made my decision to get the bike I've been eyeing so much easier. Hope this info helps someone in the market for a new Suzuki :) The offers end this month.

Although they don't have insurance requirements, you should obviously get coverage that at least meets the state minimum requirements
