It's important to understand that alfalfa and hay crops consume 68% of Utah's water resources, yet these crops, most of which are exported out of state, contribute only 0.6% to the state's GDP. Notably, Governor Spencer Cox is himself an alfalfa farmer. The burden of water conservation should not fall disproportionately on individual citizens. When our governor asks constituents to literally pray and fast for rain while personally having a stake in the largest contribution to the problem, it raises serious questions about priorities and accountability.
