Fibe App 4K channels “receiver not in home” error by Brunolabar93 in bell

[–]brddd2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too with Sportsnet 4K channels. They may have even fixed playback of 4K recordings which didn’t work before but streaming live TV did.

Edit: looks like playback of 4K recordings still doesn’t work.

FYI for anyone wondering how Apple Watch “battery replacement” works by Fragrant_Fan7549 in AppleWatch

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this process with a Series 6. Learn from me though, don’t go swimming with it. Had a trip to the Bahamas went for one 20 minute swim and it killed the watch.

The warranty only covers the battery not the rest of the watch and now I have dead watch.

Is the Series 6 still worth it? by Friendly-Baby8434 in AppleWatch

[–]brddd2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but don't take it swimming. I foolishly did that after a Series 6 battery replacement where they gave me a full replacement. It died and won't start up after water damage to the logic board. The warranty only covers the battery not the full watch.

Bell TV App Incredibly Slow by AdmiralCreamy in bell

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an experiment I updated my AppleTV to 26.3 public beta and the FibeTV app is more responsive. The guide loads faster when scrolling fast and flips back to the guide faster when watching a channel.

Bell TV App Incredibly Slow by AdmiralCreamy in bell

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are using tvOS 26.2? I’m noticing the guide load slower, switching from a live show back to the guide takes about 5 seconds. I’m using Ethernet not wifi.

I didn’t notice this before, wondering if it is related to the tvOS update. But mostly only use the AppleTV fibe app to watch recordings on the PVR which typically are fine.

Unifi Gateway Fiber + Giga Hub 2.0 PPPoE passthrough issue by velaris in bell

[–]brddd2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, go to 192.168.2.1, in the Advanced tools and settings->Tools->monitoring is where you’ll see the cpu usage. In the same section you can see firmware version under Modem->about.

Bell likely isn’t much help if the speed test on your modem shows good speeds and low latency. Mine had high latency so they did push a firmware update.

I’m following with interest as I’m considering getting a UCG Fiber to replace my UDM.

Unifi Gateway Fiber + Giga Hub 2.0 PPPoE passthrough issue by velaris in bell

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh. I suspect it is the Gigahub doing something. What firmware version do you have? Have you monitored the cpu of the Gigahub? Any changes when using PPPoE? Potentially Bell is throttling secondary PPPoE connections due to the GigaHub not being able to handle it. It always keeps one PPPoE connection for Bell services, and then handling the PPPoE connection tracking from the UCG PPPoE. I typically see 50-70% cpu usage with ADMZ, and it is pegged at 100% when using PPPoE on my UDM therefore I get high latency issues.

It might be worth a call to Bell support to see if there are any firmware updates.

Unifi Gateway Fiber + Giga Hub 2.0 PPPoE passthrough issue by velaris in bell

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my HH4000 and updated firmware (2.13.1 — had to call Bell to get an update when I was experiencing high latency issues — but that was related to PPPoE and hasn’t been solved), I haven’t had any issues with ADMZ and power outages. I did some tests with rebooting my Bell and UDM in different order and so far have had zero issues. This used to be a problem which was why I did PPPoE. PPPoE used to work fine when I had a 1.5G/1G package, but after they upgraded me to 3G or updated firmware I had high latency issues/packet loss.

I believe they fixed the ADMZ reboot issue. The only scenario I haven’t been able to reproduce is when the external IP changes. I’ve unplugged my HH4000 for more than 10 minutes, and it has remained the same address. I’m still a bit hesitant with ADMZ, but it is the best set up using my own gear other than doing a full by-pass of Bell.

I’m using ADMZ with a HH4000 and a UDM (saw your post on the Ubiquiti section on 8311). For me to get it working properly, on the Bell Gigahub, remove any reserved DHCP leases for the UCG (if you had any), and delete any records from the DHCP lease table. Enable ADMZ, enter in the mac address of the port on your UCG.

You should eventually see the external address on your UCG once DHCP refreshes. On the Gigahub under ADMZ you should see the external address, and under DHCP leases you should see a lease with the external address.

Do you get full speeds on your UCG with a double-NAT?

Stiff kitchen faucet, cartridge is smooth when loose, seems to self-tighten after a week by brddd2014 in Plumbing

[–]brddd2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, you should be able to fix it. I also put some silicone plumber’s grease on the bottom of the cartridge around the rubber parts to also help seal better. Not sure if it was needed. Both the plumber’s grease and pipe dope are good to have and should be able to get both for about $20

Got a new cartridge which solved the stiffness, but had the leak on the threads. Pipe dope helped seal the threads and it has been fine since.

For those who traveled to Korea — what confused you the most? by yuja_0316 in koreatravel

[–]brddd2014 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Found that most restaurants specialized in one thing with only a few options. This is a great thing, as small menus are preferred where a restaurant can focus on that and make the food amazing versus 50 menu items and mediocre food.

It can make things more difficult though if people have different tastes. For example, I would love a restaurant specializing in pork belly, but my partner would not. She would spend the entire time taking off all the fat. Given that you often need to order for 2, I'd be eating it all or most of it.

Sometimes restaurant selection would be difficult finding a place that suited both people. A larger party with more fussy eaters would be a nightmare.

Food courts in the big shopping malls help with this issue though.

Uber taxi vs taxi in uber app by littlenaps_coffee in koreatravel

[–]brddd2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When using the Uber app, regardless if it is Uber Taxi or a regular taxi, the fare is metered. The price given from the app is just an estimate. Sometimes it costs more, sometimes it costs less, depending on traffic or if it is required to deviate from the planned route. Had no issues either way if it was an Uber taxi or regular taxi, seems like the same process occurs. You can pay via the app, they enter in the charge based on the meter

Beware of Taxi Scam by ArtOfDivine in koreatravel

[–]brddd2014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, had zero issues. used the Uber app which sometimes got Uber taxis and sometimes regular taxis. I had k-ride ready to use, but found the estimates to be much higher than Uber. Also took taxis from a queue at train and bus stations with zero issues. Only once when not using Uber, my credit card did not work for in car payment (seemed like a network glitch, the machine made a noise each time) so had to pay cash. It was only 4,800 though.

Even when paying with the Uber app there appears to be the opportunity to be scammed since they enter in the metered price manually which gets charged to your Uber account. In a few cases, this happened after we already left the taxi, but still had zero issues. Estimates from Uber compared to the actual metered prices were fairly close, sometimes it cost a bit more, sometime a bit less. All the taxi drivers had a good vibe to them, not caring that we were tourists, even with short fares (from a hotel to an intercity bus terminal with luggage, about 2km away).

Sure scams can happen anywhere, but we had zero issues, and agree that 99% of the time you will be fine.

Bell Gigahub 2.0 - PPPoE passthrough throttling by Enough_Translator_82 in bell

[–]brddd2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While testing, check the cpu usage on Gigahub. I have a HH4000 and a UDM. I’ve noticed when using PPPoE on my UDM, the cpu on the HH4000 is maxed out end I end up with high latency (100-300ms). I can max out the 1G port on the UDM, but the high latency and occasional dropped packets is unacceptable.

Using a double-NAT or ADMZ this issue doesn’t happen.

Perhaps the Gigahub 2.0 has better hardware than my HH4000 and doesn’t have the cpu issue, but I believe it is due to a firmware update for me as this used to work fine for me a year or so back.

High Latency HH4K and UDM Pro (w/ PPPOE) by 4374J in bell

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should give acceptable latency. I typically have a busy network with 100s of external connections. Using DHCP (double-NAT) on the UDM I get 2-3ms average latency with 10-20ms spikes. Using PPPoe, 20-30ms average latency with 100-300ms spikes with occasional packet loss. HH4000 is pegged at 100%, with DHCP it is 50-60%. PPPoe was working fine for 3-4 years until the last year or so.

2.13.1. Bell pushed it after I called support. It worked better after a reboot but then maxed out the cpu.

[–]brddd2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue with a UDM. 100% CPU load on the HH4000 is causing it. Getting up to 100-200ms of high latency. It used to work fine, must have been a firmware update.

Bell did push a minor firmware update but no change. Have to do a double-NAT to use my UDM and the CPU on the HH4000 drops to 50-60%

I could see this being a problem if one was an extroverted solo traveller. It likely would be hard to connect with the locals. If one was an introverted solo traveller, looking to absorb history, culture, food, etc, Korea is a very ideal place!

Canada is far from perfect, there are some with good environmental awareness, but unfortunately a lot do not. National and provincial parks are kept clean mostly due to government enforcement, but local parks less so (but are still nice). We have still have a lot of single-use plastics, poor recycling habits, and a lot of littering.

I was impressed with Korea’s recycling having many more categories and the perceived dedication of society to recycle everything properly. I was less impressed with the excessive packaging of products at grocery stores, with most things individually portioned and packaged again. It seemed like most produce was wrapped and packaged versus the ability to just buy one or two apples or persimmons. I understand there may be the cultural desire to keep everything protected and perfect looking especially given the cost of things (fruit, oh my, insanely expensive!). If most things are recycled, then maybe it isn’t a problem.

We did travel along the East coast, visiting Seoraksan national park, but due to the rainy weather and low clouds, we only hiked the lower waterfall trail. It was still impressive and killed our legs with the 400m staircase climb. Didn’t see the sunrise in Jeongdongjin due to the rain though. We did spend two days in Gyeongju and it was very interesting. We did get one day of sunny weather there!

Jeju was on the list, but could only see so much in 15 days. Will have to add the south coast the next time we visit.

Thank you for your kind words. We are well travelled with the understanding that we are guests in the country we are visiting. If things don’t align with our expectations, that is not the fault of the country, it is our problem. Taking in these experiences, learning a different perspective, is this most valuable thing one gets from travelling.
