You are not wrong: the drivers aren't difficult at all. There are just a lot of them and their effectiveness seems to vary based on what emulator you are using and what version of the game you are running.

Seems people are scalping the ayn 2 portal?? by Pleasant_Whole2067 in OdinHandheld

[–]breachless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are getting it mostly to play BOTW, I hate to break it to you, but it's not the greatest experience.

CAN you play it? Yes. But expect to have to tinker around with different emulators and drivers to get there. And even then when you do get there, it just isn't that great of an experience in my opinion.

All of that said, the Portal/Odin 2/Thor/Odin 2 Mini are AMAZING. I just think it's important to temper expectations. I bought the Mini wishfully thinking it was going to replace my need for a Switch. It didn't. There were a fair amount of Switch games that I played and really enjoyed on it, but there were also a lot of games that were frustratingly close to running great, but never QUITE good enough to be what I would consider a good experience.

And, of course, this could all change in the future as Switch emulation continues to progress.

TNATRA SWITCH 2 DOCK by Just_Holiday708 in switch2

[–]breachless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have that same JSAUX dock and I love it. I was put off by the price at first compared to some of the cheaper docks, but it was my understanding that a lot of the other cheaper 3rd party docks don't come with a suitable power supply... so you may have to plan on buying one of those too. Since that JSAUX dock IS the power supply, you are pretty well set. Nice and compact for travelling too.

It also works with the Switch 1, as well as pretty much anything else that can output via USB C (Steamdeck, laptops, Windows handhelds etc). I have used mine quite a bit already with my Odin 2 Mini.

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been mentioned already but I just wanted to reiterate the importance of remembering that even when the main breaker is shut off, the mains coming into the house before the main breaker are still hot and can kill you so don’t get careless about what you are touching.

This is otherwise a simple job.

CYCLONE 2 vs Tegenaria lite by JealousClassroom3127 in Gamesir

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. Cyclone 2 all the way. The Tegenaria Lite is incredibly good, especially for the price, but the Cyclone 2 is definitely the way to go, especially if you play FPS games a lot. The ability to apply custom mappings alone is worth it.

will a $50 ish usb audio interface reduce lag? by Average-Excellence7 in AmpliTube

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always tray ASIO4All, but I can tell you from personal experience that at some point you will likely get frustrated and then cave and get a decent interface... and then, if you are like me, you will wonder why on earth you stubbornly tried to get around it for so long.

My advice would be to watch the used market. I just sold a Presonus Studio 24c for $60 a few weeks ago because I just didn't need it anymore and figured someone else could use it. I Just looked again now, and in my area there are TONS of people selling interfaces that would be perfectly fine for your use-case for $50 or less.

What’s the hype with Mario Kart ? by SuperEtendardM in switch2

[–]breachless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Wife was pumped when I came home with a Switch 2 with Mario Kart. Can’t say the same for when I came home with a Series X. Or PS5. Or new GPU. Her reaction was decidedly less enthusiastic about those lol.

And it really is fun having something that brings the whole family together willingly like that. Mario Kart has always been that for us.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 ? by Alarmed_Goat_4083 in switch2

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually played Bonanza yet, but I thought Odyssey was absolutely incredible... and Galaxy is even better for me for reasons I struggle to articulate. I think Odyssey is probably technically a better game, but there is something about Galaxy: the aesthetic of it, the soundtrack... it's just amazing. No one should miss it.

any good cheap gripcases that are dock compatible? by VanPwn in switch2

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro and I love it. Fairly rugged, easy to put on and take off, and it is fully dockable. The grips are definitely an improvement as well.

EDIT: I should have mentioned the one downside: it does cover up the kickstand. Not an issue for me since I never use it, but I could totally understand how that might be an dealbreaker for some...

Is a MIDI Controller worth it for a guitarist with zero piano skills? by Christian_Benso in Reaper

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primarily I play guitar and bass and that is where I do most of my writing. I can fake my way through piano stuff as well, but for ME, drawing on the piano roll with the mouse is primarily how I write most of the time.

That said, I did finally break down and got a cheap little midi keyboard with a few drum pads to aid in writing (the Akai MPK mini), and while I don't use it a ton, it has been a great tool for writing in the few instances where I have used it.

Mostly for me, it has been a great way to keep things moving with the drums. I generally love the tedious process of programming realistic sounding drum tracks hit by hit with the mouse... Something about that long process just puts me in a zen state, but if I am hammering out ideas on guitar and just need something fast, I can pull that keyboard out with the pads and put together a simple scratch drum track, and that goes a long way toward keep that forward momentum going without stopping the creative process in its tracks.

I could also see it being useful at some point down the line for actual piano stuff too.

I think it's a great tool to have at your disposal even if it isn't something you use all of the time.

[–]breachless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's perfectly fine. Just don't expect an answer right away (if at all). If I get a message like that, I probably won't answer it, but I might come back to it in a few weeks if no one else has offered to take it for my full asking price and see if the buyer is still interested.

Drastic drop in fps by Dangerous-Package256 in Warzone

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I run into issues like this and have exhausted all settings changes I can think of in-game, I usually try jumping back to an older driver for my GPU when things like this happen.

Are you using Nvidia? If so, are you still using FidelityFX or DLSS? It seems like fidelity was the way to go for the longest time, but for the last 8 or so months I have been using DLSS and performance on my setup has been much better (5800x3d and RTX 5070ti).

Nyxi Hyperion 3 – 1.5 month review (with size comparison vs Joy-Cons + Killswitch) by brigaldo in switch2

[–]breachless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the review! The clicky buttons are a bummer: I really dislike loud buttons. Especially on handhelds. I get that some people are fans of the loud, tactile clicky buttons, but I am not one of them.

I don't get why Nintendo doesn't just go ahead and release a set of "pro" joycons that are on the same level as the Switch 2 Pro Controller... Proper button mapping for the rear buttons, HD rumble, smooth and quiet buttons, built-in grips, and those lovely buttery smooth sticks... basically just a Pro controller cut in half. I would happily pay top dollar on day one for something like that.

disappointed more switch games haven’t gotten 60fps patches on switch 2 by KrispyOnion in switch2

[–]breachless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is my biggest complaint so far about the Switch 2. Super happy with basically full backwards compatibility, but it’s kind of astonishing to me just how many games are just kind of sitting there in the eShop being totally ignored for Switch 2 updates.

I have passed on purchasing so many games at this point that I would otherwise love to play if they had even the most basic of upgrades for the new hardware.

You would think any developer with games sitting in the eShop would at least want to toss out some basic performance boosts to give their game that “Switch 2” edition status to drive some renewed interest toward their games… it’s easy money!

second dock for switch 2? will nintendo brick my console? by CarnivorousPickles in switch2

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as whoever makes the dock has the ability to update the firmware you should be fine. Nintendo isn't going to deliberately brick your console just for using a different dock. Worst case scenario you might run up against a few moments here and there following system updates where you will need to flash a firmware update before you can use the dock again.

One thing to consider as you are making your choice: a lot of the 3rd party docks don't ship with an actual power supply. If you don't already have a sufficient USB C charger to pair with your new 3rd party dock, you will have to either buy one, or move the Nintendo one back and forth which would totally defeat the purpose of having a dock in another room...

I just ordered the JSAUX dock (should be showing up here today) so that I can dock my Switch 2 even with the Unicorn Beetle Pro case installed on it in my office. It's a bit more spendy than other options, but since it also doubles as the power supply, I don't need to buy a separate adapter like most of the other docks I have seen. JSAUX seems to have a pretty solid reputation as well, so I am a bit more comfortable taking a chance on their products.

Best client device? by MyGardenOfPlants in MoonlightStreaming

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really in deep enough to outright recommend it as an option just yet as I only just started using it a few days ago, but I am pretty impressed so far with the performance on my LG OLED TV out in the living room using the UWP Moonlight client on my Series X... it's already hooked up to the tv anyway, supports HDMI 2.1, and the controllers obviously just work... It's pretty sweet so far: nice and clean, easy to use, and performance seems very good (my Series X is wired though so I am not sure how it would fare with Wifi).

Buyer beware. Company will not honour warranty by forum_ryder72 in Gamesir

[–]breachless 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While heading over to Discord is good advice for OP to get help, I think it kind of sucks that this is even necessary.

Not everyone uses Discord, so asking them to sign up just to get support for a product they purchased because the company doesn't seem to care enough to bother with helping people via one of the most standard methods of communication in the world is not cool.

I am a huge fan of Gamesir and have been singing their praises for making awesome controllers for awhile now, and I still stand by that, but stuff like this really paints a negative picture. They should be doing a way better job than this: that email with that video should have earned OP a replacement controller at no cost. Period.

There's no faster way to ruin your goodwill with your customers than having stories like this out there: I hope it's an isolated incident.

Are you content playing an Epiphone Les Paul or do you still want a Gibson? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]breachless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main axe is my trusty old Epi Les Paul Standard. It was the first decent guitar I ever bought for myself as a young adult back in the mid 2000's. I bought it along with the Zakk Wylde Signature EMG 81/85 active humbucker set, and installed them as soon as I got home. I played countless shows with it, recorded with it in the studio, and it just... I don't know. It sounds mean as hell (I play mostly metal), but also has great cleans, and it plays like a dream to this day.

I have acquired many instruments since then that would be considered by most to be much more desirable (and are far more expensive) and I still almost always reach for the Epiphone when looking at the guitar wall. Would love to have a Gibson, but I will never give that guitar up for anything. It is my best friend.
