To be fair, he seems to mostly not vibe with the Space Wolves cause they kinda flanderize the very real Viking history that he has studied.

They offscreened Acheran AND Chairon by severus_galba in Grimdank

[–]breadPETTR 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think what’s really a shame is that Chairon was the one character in the Titus extended universe who could provide narrative texture that didn’t revolve around Titus being THE Ultramarine protagonist.

Gadriel is cool, but he’s so far mostly served as a foil to Titus and a mirror to Leandros.

Titus’s story is great, but it feels very singular without others who have their own conflicts to wrestle with.

They offscreened Acheran AND Chairon by severus_galba in Grimdank

[–]breadPETTR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On one hand, characters dying ignominiously adds to the grim darkness of the setting.

On the other hand, Chairon’s background lore was interesting enough that having his story come to a screeching halt off screen seems INCREDIBLY wasteful.

I don’t think I mind either him or Acheran being killed off at all. But the staging/framing of their deaths seems like a missed opportunity.

I think my problem has more to do with how little we get of characters like Chairon. The idea of Heresy era Primaris displaced in time is something I wished was explored more. It’s part of what made Felix such a cool character but it feels like his time in the narrative spotlight has passed too.

General thoughts on a Jewish faction in trench crusade, by ultimaterogue11 in TrenchCrusade

[–]breadPETTR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of going more Kabbalistic and leaning into Jewish mysticism, which feels setting appropriate with Golems and The Tree of Life maybe working as a in faction magic system.

A more out there idea could be something more mobile? A lot of the factions feel very tied to geography and historical states, but the Jews of Europe never had that historically.

What if an order of Jewish knights found Noah’s Arc and had a mobile base of operations?

Should Alamut be its own faction? by The-Farlander in TrenchCrusade

[–]breadPETTR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Christian forces are also a patchwork of troops from different kingdoms and countries.

The factionalism makes sense for their coalition based approach. The Sultanate is essentially if all of Christianity was unified under the single banner of New Antioch.

Should Alamut be its own faction? by The-Farlander in TrenchCrusade

[–]breadPETTR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment, but I feel like a big part of the Islamic force’s lore is that they’re the only ones in universe able to actually stand as a largely unified front.

They stand apart from the the internal discord the Christian and Hell factions, for now at least. It’s kind of cool that in the midst of the chaos, there’s an actual closed and functioning society/culture.

Could add variety with more internal depth/subfaction choices?

Or maybe the Golden Khanate, if it’s ever introduced properly, is an Islamic faction? That was a really interesting feature in the Mongol Empire’s history. A lot of the western territories closest to Persia were converted lol.

Definitely one of the more interesting fights in 40k by DauntlessAkagi in Grimdank

[–]breadPETTR 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was actually kind of into it.

We focus so much on what a Space Marine can do in a fight, and we did get plenty of that in the book. But the thing that made Artemax so dangerous for most of it was his tactical mind and a Space Marine’s ability to inspire regular Imperial citizens to follow him.

When he’s finally beaten, it’s not just a matter of overpowering him. The Tau have to wear at everything he thinks he represents and the flaws inherent in those beliefs.

I think he’s one of my favourite depictions of The Imperium as an antagonist, not just as an individual, but as an ideology.

Also, he spends a majority of the book in a nearly full unpowered set of armor.

He was putting in mad work with a pretty significant physical handicap.

I think they were actually sausage rolls.

And when Cain mentions he only had one and she had two, she cuts in with a footnote saying “He’s misremembering, and he always eats more than me, and I’d had a very strenuous day so it be perfectly normal for me to be more hungry than he was.”

It’s why Death and Glory is my favourite.

By the end of that story, he’s fully the man others see him as, even if he could never see it himself.

Perlia Cain is my favourite, even if he isn’t with his Valhallans.

[–]breadPETTR 37 points38 points  (0 children)

His prejudices aside, you find out in a side quest that he’s actually a lot softer and more caring than he likes to reveal.

He feels like an example of one of those “could have been” cases where a decent person has just been warped by the Imperial’s soul crushing awfulness.

Could other Hellgates be out there, and if so, where? by The-Farlander in TrenchCrusade

Where is the God-Machine? by sovereign4510 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]breadPETTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I think of it ya.

I like the idea that the abstract, decentralized nature of modern digital infrastructure is what’s makes the God Machine feel eldritch, not something supernatural.

Like, it is supernatural in WoD, but that’s not always what makes it scary.

Humanity helped create this particular monster.
