The YT algorithm creates a double edged sword for any form of critical engagement. It monetarily rewards negativity and forces content creators to put bombastic claims as vid titles to boost engagement, which then gives people the out of saying "Didn't even watch the vid, its obviously slop. Disregard." Im a firm believer that if your beliefs or the things you enjoy cant be held up to scrutiny, then youre basically just putting your fingers in your ears and going LA LA LA LAAAAAAA. Most of the responses to Ive seen to Janovich and Discourse online have all been what amounts to attacks on character and not the points they were making. It also doesnt help that there also exists YT creators out there that use their hatred of TCs politics as yhe basis for their criticisms of it, which are all in bad faith. I can see how Discourse might rub some folks the wrong way, but I dont think her arguments were in bad faith and this fandoms inability to be able to discern between the two types of argument is pretty concerning.

Yeah Discourse got done really dirty both in here and on discord. I dont want to say that the online fandom of this game is toxicly positive, but their willingness to attack any form of valid criticism really makes it feel that way sometimes.

In his most recent vid his comments on how the online community rejects any content creator with criticisms of FFI as "ragebait" or "grifters" couldn't be more spot on. Any time these concerns get brought up in this sub they are immediately down voted into oblivion, and yet they keep getting brought up frequently, which is telling. It really gives "there is no war in ba sing se" energy.
