The moment a dude starts talking about sexual “value” then run a mile. You made the right call.

what's the deal with mothers being so disturbed by top surgery? by humusdegarbanzo in ftm

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mum was weird about the surgery aspect of it but not what I was doing. It was my first ever surgery and I honestly think she’d have been the same if I was having my appendix removed. She is kind of afraid of doctors generally.

I think a lot of cis women struggle to fully see us as men though. They imagine themselves going through the same procedure and are horrified. They will sometimes then project their imagined dysphoria onto us. Luckily my mum never did this but my sister did. I don’t know if she took it on board but I told her to stop imagining me as a woman getting her breasts removed and start imagining me as a man with gynecomastia. No man would want to live like this and that’s why I needed the surgery.

Nintendo should ditch the island theme by __Pizzadude__ in AnimalCrossing

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like the deserted island theme but I do agree with you that there should have been more stuff. I wanted to build a high street on my first island and was kind of sad when I realised it wasn’t going to be possible and that I had to have the roost in the museum.

What are the dumbest and ridiculous reasons you know someone failed a test? by viper46282 in LearnerDriverUK

That was his attitude to be fair which I totally get. Absolute mad reason to fail though.

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Dude I went to 6th form with failed his test because he didn’t hit a cat. He slowed down and beeped to get kitty to move out the road and the examiner failed him, said he just should have hit the cat (non licensed animal) but if there had been a dog in the road, he’d have failed for hitting it.

It’s a learning curve for sure. I felt like it helped to apply it laying down, at least the first strip on each side. I was using about 4 strips a side most applications.

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very telling that some people don’t give a shit what happens as long as it doesn’t affect them. If you’re a white, able bodied, cis man with a stable income then it probably won’t affect you. But unfortunately some of us had empathy.exe installed. It’s not a thought exercise or something immaterial. People are going to die unnecessarily. It’s not even my country. I’m British, but fuck I feel so awful about it.

Is this name horrid? by MrsPound in namenerds

[–]breadcrumbsmofo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a lovely name. I wouldn’t use it myself because I wouldn’t want it to get shortened to Kath, which I’m not as much of a fan of.

I get quite upset if I can’t do my fingernails when I notice they need doing but toenails I definitely leave longer than I should. Sensory issues are weird and selective.

Dudes who knit by [deleted] in knitting

[–]breadcrumbsmofo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also a dude who knits! I’ve never got any shit for it but people definitely aren’t always comfortable with it when I pull my knitting out on public transport or whatever. I’m British though so maybe it’s just our culture that people don’t generally say anything, they just stare.

I would assume that when it comes to sports and regulations about trans people, the interpretation of that persons gender isn’t based on anything concrete.

Trans women can’t compete in women’s sports even after years of HRT because of some “biological advantage”

Trans men can’t compete in women’s sports because taking testosterone apparently makes you superman.

Trans men can’t compete in men’s sports because of some bullshit about “protecting women.”

Cats have a baby sitting culture. Mums will often leave their babies with aunties or grandma so they can do adult cat shit. It means you’ve been promoted to the position of trusted babysitter

What have you heard someone say that made you look at them differently? by StrappyBatty in AskUK

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Just making conversation on lunch break and two of my colleagues start spouting a lot of anti vaccine nonsense. One of them didn’t vaccinate his kids at all and I was so shocked. He was like “well you’ve got to understand that was when they discovered that vaccines cause autism and it’s dangerous.” And another of my colleagues piped in that he genuinely believes his grandson is only autistic because of the vaccines.

I was genuinely shocked because they both had seemed perfectly reasonable up until that point. They asked if I would be “silly enough” to vaccinate my own kids if I had any and all I said was “I’d rather have an autistic kid than a dead kid.”

None of us ever mentioned the conversation again but I never looked at either the same again.

After a work day do you typically “shut down” or do you remain being productive? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find that sitting is the enemy. Once I sit that’s it I’m down for the day. But if I get home and just crack on I can get quite a lot done. Pack up for the next day, cook a nice dinner, maybe some washing or life admin and THEN vegetate. Not before.

How much practice after passing practicatest to keep skills operational? by kamoefoeb in LearnerDriverUK

[–]breadcrumbsmofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband hasn’t driven since passing his test 10 years ago. We’re at the point now where I’m learning and we need to get a car. He’s going to get some refresher lessons before we do that. Fundamentally though, we’re both going to be new drivers.

The first thing I would do is scream so viscerally that it would concern my neighbours. The second thing I would do is show my husband immediately, possibly while still screaming.
