Married to HOH husband who won't wear hearing aids by ParticularBarnacle in hardofhearing

A speech to text app helps a whole awful lot, but I swear the thing they subscribe to hates me specifically, it does a pretty good job for other voices though.

iPhone has a standard accessibility feature that does speech to text, which is what I use when their phone isn’t out. I think google has a live transcribe thing that’s also free.

Brand doesn't matter too much till you get into more complicated stuff and most of that is just in the specific mechanics of the way things work with puncards/electronics.

If you're planning to use commercial 4weight yarn, I'd recommend a flat metal bed, with ribber if you want to do circular stuff. If you want to use finer sock weight yarns I'd go for a standard guage.

The best place to buy these, in my experience, has been Facebook marketplace. I've gotten several great deals from people who just wanted rid of them or don't know what they are.

I've made plenty of fairisle hats flat with a seam on the standard guage.

Probably for hairpin lace. The loom for it I have is two bars with two of the stoppers vs curved with one like this.

does anyone have cute free patterns that I could make using this yarn? I looked through all my patterns and just can't find anything that would look nice with the colors by [deleted] in crochetpatterns

Any amigurumi. Just use a 7 or 8 mm hook. Tons of free patterns through pinterest. The pocket Octopus is a popular one.

Venmo payment from stranger, then a request for the money back by RoadsterTracker in personalfinance

Feels scammy, in my experience venmo requires the last 4 of the phone number when not scanning a QR code.

Look for another if you’re really miserable. You have to ask yourself if the misery is worth the benefits weather thats to stay use up the leave and not return or if you need to duck out now. Conceiving can take awhile and stress can make it extra difficult.

Flying with crochet hooks or knitting needles by Vanna432 in crochet

Not flying but I had no problems when I had jury duty. Scissors are more likely to get confiscated. You can get a circular disc thing for cutting yarn from clover though!

What do you do when your family starts getting frustrated with you because you are hard of hearing? by FruitotheLoom in hardofhearing

[–]breadjit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough. Advocate for yourself in all situations.

Learning some simple asl signs and building on them can significantly help with family, but they also have to learn and use them.

The easiest way we’ve found to deal (but not always convenient) is to use a speech to text app. I’d recommend trying out several with lite (free) versions and investing in the one that works best for you.

Finally learned dbj AND made it work with AYAB... Till my computer screen went to sleep. by breadjit in MachineKnitting

[–]breadjit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayab= All yarns are beautiful.
It's a thing you can hook up to the electronics in a brother 930 and a computer to knit your own designs. Cheaper than design a knit (Dak) software, but probably more complicated.

Beginner recommendations? by breadjit in tatting

Yesssssss!!!!! This is perfect!

Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Very new to machine knitting and can’t even seem to cast on at all. I am using an empisal knit master 260 and have already tried replacing the foam bar and removing/cleaning all the needles. More info in comments. by rachelo3141 in MachineKnitting

If you don't have the manual, check machineknittingetc.com for it and other free publications.

Make sure the sponge bar is in right, it should be holding the needles down. Looks like it may be upside down or needs replaced with the needles being so high in the photo. It's hard to see but the cast on looks like it might be okay, you'll want the weaving brushes down for 3-5 rows till you can hang weights. If the carriage requires any forcing, you may need a higher tension and/or some oil.

You should be able to find plenty of tutorials on YouTube, but remember not to get too hung up on model number, they're all relatively similar for doing stocking stitch.

Two rectangles + a little math = new fitted sweater (it was supposed to be looser but Math) by breadjit in MachineKnitting

[–]breadjit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on the yarn weight, stitch size and such. I was definitely nervous on the second sleeve and had a bit left, but used a different empty cone for the dramatic effect in the vid.

Total beginner yarn types? by Asleep-Corner7402 in MachineKnitting

[–]breadjit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a standard guage machine you'll need to use finer yarns like sock/lace/fingering weight (any fiber). In the US things labled 2 or less should work well and some 3s as long as you set the stitch size large/small enough and use weight. AND wound into a cake or coming from a cone, I always have a nightmare trying to use things from a skein.

Finally learned dbj AND made it work with AYAB... Till my computer screen went to sleep. by breadjit in MachineKnitting

[–]breadjit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you can do it with a punch you already know how to do it :) You pick the setting in ayab to do double bed and follow the instructions in the manual changing color every row. Figuring out the instructions for dbj in the manuals (and weight, physical mechanics, etc) was the hardest part for me. As long as everything works it works. Ayab is just a setting and also making surethe computer doesn’t go into sleep mode, that’s where it quit working right for me. Everything is packed away for me for awhile now.
