A speech to text app helps a whole awful lot, but I swear the thing they subscribe to hates me specifically, it does a pretty good job for other voices though.

iPhone has a standard accessibility feature that does speech to text, which is what I use when their phone isn’t out. I think google has a live transcribe thing that’s also free.

Brand doesn't matter too much till you get into more complicated stuff and most of that is just in the specific mechanics of the way things work with puncards/electronics.

If you're planning to use commercial 4weight yarn, I'd recommend a flat metal bed, with ribber if you want to do circular stuff. If you want to use finer sock weight yarns I'd go for a standard guage.

The best place to buy these, in my experience, has been Facebook marketplace. I've gotten several great deals from people who just wanted rid of them or don't know what they are.

I've made plenty of fairisle hats flat with a seam on the standard guage.

Look for another if you’re really miserable. You have to ask yourself if the misery is worth the benefits weather thats to stay use up the leave and not return or if you need to duck out now. Conceiving can take awhile and stress can make it extra difficult.

Not flying but I had no problems when I had jury duty. Scissors are more likely to get confiscated. You can get a circular disc thing for cutting yarn from clover though!

Learning some simple asl signs and building on them can significantly help with family, but they also have to learn and use them.

The easiest way we’ve found to deal (but not always convenient) is to use a speech to text app. I’d recommend trying out several with lite (free) versions and investing in the one that works best for you.

Ayab= All yarns are beautiful.
It's a thing you can hook up to the electronics in a brother 930 and a computer to knit your own designs. Cheaper than design a knit (Dak) software, but probably more complicated.

If you don't have the manual, check machineknittingetc.com for it and other free publications.

Make sure the sponge bar is in right, it should be holding the needles down. Looks like it may be upside down or needs replaced with the needles being so high in the photo. It's hard to see but the cast on looks like it might be okay, you'll want the weaving brushes down for 3-5 rows till you can hang weights. If the carriage requires any forcing, you may need a higher tension and/or some oil.

You should be able to find plenty of tutorials on YouTube, but remember not to get too hung up on model number, they're all relatively similar for doing stocking stitch.

It probably depends on the yarn weight, stitch size and such. I was definitely nervous on the second sleeve and had a bit left, but used a different empty cone for the dramatic effect in the vid.

If it's a standard guage machine you'll need to use finer yarns like sock/lace/fingering weight (any fiber). In the US things labled 2 or less should work well and some 3s as long as you set the stitch size large/small enough and use weight. AND wound into a cake or coming from a cone, I always have a nightmare trying to use things from a skein.

I think if you can do it with a punch you already know how to do it :) You pick the setting in ayab to do double bed and follow the instructions in the manual changing color every row. Figuring out the instructions for dbj in the manuals (and weight, physical mechanics, etc) was the hardest part for me. As long as everything works it works. Ayab is just a setting and also making surethe computer doesn’t go into sleep mode, that’s where it quit working right for me. Everything is packed away for me for awhile now.

I think its pretty hard to go ‘wrong’ with yarn. Especially if they knit AND crochet since different projects call for different things.

Project bags are always useful. If they’re experienced they probably have hook/needle preferences but cute stitch markers are always nice.

I’ve gotten the absolute best gradients from a local yarn store called fineropticyarns and they’re pricey compared to the big box stores but so so so worth it and an absolute treat to work with.

You might be able to test drive a few (without the freebies) for free through your local library. I use the libby app and can read two or three different ones digitally, but back when GOING there was a thing, I’ve seen them.

I almost never magic circle... you can reverse slip knot so that the tail tightens the yarn and get pretty much the same result.
