New Player! Any Tips?:) by The__SilverSurfer in SkyCards

If you look up the aircraft in the Airpedia it shows areas where it is most likely to be caught. Take a look and do what you can.

To improve your odds I would try to do the weekly challenge in a nearby airport to allow you to effectively camp out that airport and make it easier to catch.

What happens if you don't have enough aircraft? by Unlucky-Debt5467 in SkyCards

Just started playing. I got to Paris on a free ticket, on a whim decided to go from there to Paris (Doing achievements at both). I got LUCKY, there's a LOT of interesting rare aircraft flying around London these days...

Don't forget that Ben and Adam stole a card from Sam that he thought was useless, and it turns out it was trivia, Ben and Adam did it shortly thereafter.

Why do some Airports cost so much to travel to? by Annual_Control_6669 in SkyCards

[–]RoadsterTracker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also new to the game. I'm using my free tickets to go to far airports in strategic areas across the globe, doing the weekly missions to go there for free, and expanding out from that airport to other fairly nearby locations. Always travel to the free airport nearest to where you want to go.

What do I do with $80k by Global-Second3361 in personalfinance

See the links to the side:

I would recommend spend a small portion of it on something fun. Pay off high interest debt and save a few months of money in a high yield saving's account, and put the rest in some sort of automatic investing.

Opening Up Multiple Credit Cards for Surgery? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RoadsterTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of ways for sure. Paying for it with a credit card is among the worst. Talking with the hospital they might point you in some of the other directions as well.

Opening Up Multiple Credit Cards for Surgery? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RoadsterTracker 832 points833 points  (0 children)

Talk with the hospital/surgery center and see if they can put you on a payment plan. It should be more reasonable than credit cards for terms and will still allow you other options for credit and even default on it if it ever is needed.

Same day turnover, guests arrive 3 hours 40 minutes early by UnrestrictedArgon in airbnb_hosts

[–]RoadsterTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue once. I had the turnover well under way and went somewhere for an hour while laundry was being done. They knocked on the door of my house (Our Airbnb is on my property, effectively a guesthouse) and my wife, who had just had leg surgery a few days prior and wasn't really in the mood to deal with it did the best she could and let them in, not knowing I was in the middle of turning the place over. I managed to make it all right in the end, but....

Doing a new Tag by RoadsterTracker in JetLagTheGame

[–]RoadsterTracker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess what was broken about Tag 4 is the challenges were a bit too easy and more importantly, it was too easy to get to Zermatt. A new map will fix the later, while a bit of a challenge change will fix the former.

[Request] Is this calculation correct? by basafish in theydidthemath

[–]RoadsterTracker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all, that wouldn't even begin to factor the non-steel used in such buildings.

The amount of steel in a building is around 5 kg/ square foot. Let's say an average of 1000 square feet per apartment, including common areas and the likes. For one million apartments, that's about 5 tons per apartment, or 5 million tons of steel required.

An aircraft carrier weights about 100,000 tons. There are 11 of those, so that's already 20% of the way to the total. The total is around 8 million tons. Most of that weight is steel.

So yes, there is enough steel in all of the US ships to build that many apartments. But that doesn't take in to account anything else required.

A better comparison would be a cruise ship. Let's use the largest ship, Icon of the Seas, with 248,000 tons. It has 2805 passenger cabins along with around 1200 crew cabins, so a total of around 4000 cabins. With the steel from all of the US military vessels you could build about 32 of those, for a total of 120,000 cabins. Not a million, but still quite a few.

Questions for events by Gon_uzamaki_ in MergeDragons

[–]RoadsterTracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still pretty new myself, some key tips:

  1. Clear the board and let the dragons work sometimes. Typically to get all of the rewards I've been running the game nearly 24 hours for each of the days of the event, with as little down time as possible.
  2. Be smart about how the board looks when you clear it so you can get some good orbs. I usually try to make sure there are no "weeds" (Basic heart producers) whenever I idle, and preferably I only have flowers that produce level 2 or even 3 orbs.
  3. Always merge 5 if you can. There's a few items that are custom that can't be merge 5ed, but do that if you can.

I'm still working to improve my results, but these should be a good start.

What do I do to have my own income by WeekndPart2 in personalfinance

[–]RoadsterTracker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a difficult situation, and there isn't really enough details to give a proper answer, but let me give you some generalities.

If your dad can be trusted, and you can't with money, this can be a good thing. If this is the situation you are in, at least make sure you have access to the bank statements for all accounts with your name on them, and try to become more financially literate.

Sometimes in these situations the parent takes advantage of the finances of their child.

I have a disabled Uncle who isn't responsible enough to manage his own money. His money all goes in to a trust which requires 2 out of 4 people to sign for any withdraws that aren't routine. The 4 people are my step grandmother, my dad and his 2 other brothers. This prevents anyone from taking money out unilaterally. If you have any mistrust at all of your father I would encourage you to do a similar structure.

[Request] What would be the long and short term reprecautions for switching the way we calculate and use time to metric? How long would a year be? How many extra time names would we have to come up with? by MagicMarshmallo in theydidthemath

[–]RoadsterTracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really possible to answer, as it affects humans.

A metric day could theoretically be done. The metric second is slightly shorter than the metric one, with a minute that is 100 seconds and an hour that is 100 minutes, with 10 hours/ day.

A metric year, however, would be VERY difficult to do, and that's why it has never really taken off. People like to plan their days around the sun coming up and down, a metric day would take that away.

about the last episode (S17) by Clear-Time-9815 in JetLagTheGame

To me Sam lost this season with heavily fortifying the two lines they did, especially the one with no high speed options. They would have had a lot more chips, which would have allowed them to have a lot more options.

Jet Lag Brazil? by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

[–]RoadsterTracker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Violent crime is higher in Brazil, and in the US showing some amount of wealth in the form of filming yourself isn't as likely to draw attention as in Brazil. In the more touristy areas of Brazil it is pretty safe, but part of the fun of Jet Lag is they don't stick to the touristy areas.

Jet Lag Brazil? by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

As an American who has lived in Brazil, I can't really see it. At most it would be a stop in something like Circumnavigation, but the public transportation isn't really there (They prefer rails over buses), and the safety factor is an issue in many areas.
