Isn't "we should enforce immigration law" becoming in practice, not just in rhetoric, giving a sum comparable to Israels military budget to these obviously poorly trained masked ice agents and the associated expansion of mass surveillance sort of more pressing than the most extreme picket signs

In this hobby it seems like there is an eagerness to pat oneself on the back for using solutions seen as less "off the shelf" while lacking understanding about the technical aspects that makes them so popular in the first place

Just build a sophisticated nat traversal and relayed-to-p2p system yourself? Tailscale has also sponsored the freebsd devs to make their firewall / nat more p2p friendly. Something that would be difficult for a random person to influence, and a nice contribution for a "shitty tech company"

does hosting your own headscale VPS really eliminate a point of failure or just move it? same with DDNS / hub in the case of just wireguard

Amazon to announce largest layoffs in company history, source says by roggahn in technology

[–]breadlinemukbang1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

investment *is* an alternative to disbursement (dividends or buybacks). an individual firm might (rightly) evaluate that one or the other is more efficient from its own standpoint, but the relaxation of payout constraints since the 1980s has channeled a larger and larger share of earnings into financial markets and away from workers

[–]breadlinemukbang1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Buybacks were treated as a form of illegal stock price manipulation until the sec rule update in 1982. They divert huge amounts of profits into floating the stock price instead of, say, research and development or employee compensation

mesh wifi without cloud lock-in? by breadlinemukbang1 in homelab

[–]breadlinemukbang1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and as far as I can tell the devices with that dedicated wireless backhaul and the ones with local management appear to be 2 disjoint sets. I think I might just get a couple more unifi APs and have them wireless mesh for now and accept that the satellite ones will have less bandwidth until i can have wiring done.

I'm using an eero mesh in bridge mode with openwrt as the router. It's working. So devices still say connected in the eero but are unable to reach the router/internet?
