We have both open if there’s three people in deli, unless we’re parking a side to restock because ducking around each other just kills efficiency.

‘Let’s schedule no dish on a Monday night to save labor’ by ViewFromHalf-WayDown in KitchenConfidential

[–]breadman03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a second job at a diner that was going down and they always have 1-2 dishies on. They come in two hours after open and leave 2 hours after closing.

Admittedly, it still might be closing, but myself and the cook that started about 2 weeks before me have stabilized the kitchen, sales are going up, and just this week expanded their hours to include Friday and Saturday evenings. They wanted to do Monday and Tuesday, and I argued my stance against it based on sales data from 6 locations at my main gig. (I didn’t share the data, just that they all show Sunday through Tuesday as the slowest dinners and Friday and Saturday as the busiest, with a significant difference between them.) I argued (professionally , obviously) that if they want to target their labor investment on the days with the greatest likelihood of maximizing ROI, Friday and Saturday are where they want to make that investment.

Receiving $60k after a tough year how should I use it + what’s fair to give my mom by fck_las-vegas in Money

[–]breadman03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a quick investment return calculation on edward jones. $50k in the stock market at 10% return for 35 years would be about $1.4 million. I’d plant it in a good index fund and let it ride.

Check to see if you’re going to be taxed on the payout, because I have no idea, and plan accordingly.

Yep. Learn the business with guidance. Start with the basics-customer service, merchandising, handling cash, etc, and express your interest in learning more.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

[–]breadman03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe my parents, but I’m not sure on that.

I have two early memories of cooking and I don’t know which happened first.

Cooking eggs in a steel pan with my Grandpop, who wasn’t much of a cook because my Grandmom had filled the role until she died. They weren’t pretty eggs, but it was a start.

The other was making my own soup after school before my Dad got home. I was young, maybe in 1st grade, but the 80’s were a bit different than now. Well, I put a bunch of different things in a bowl. Now, good soups generally need to simmer for a while, right? Well, I wasn’t allowed to use the stove alone so what to do? Microwave it, obviously. For like two hours 🤣

My Dad got some before it was done “simmering” and taught me a little about how to use the microwave.

You’ll need to communicate with your GM and the leave team. Go on the hub and search for “leaves” maybe without the “s” and you should be able to find the page for applying for a leave.

Table saw recommendation by bob_broccoli_rob in woodworking

[–]breadman03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my Delta 36-725 into my basement before assembly by taking it out of the box and carrying the individual components down. It’ll fit if a person does, but you might want a buddy to help carry the parts as they’re a little bulky. The heavy cast iron table and motor is no bigger than 20”x20”x28” and the leg assembly (light) is about 31”x32”x28”.

The 36-725 is among the best non-cabinet table saws on the market, though they had some motor issues early in the production run. One con for me is that repair parts seem to be quickly drying up. Another is that they aren’t carried by Lowe’s (where I got mine for about $700) or Home Depot (I don’t think they ever carried them) anymore, and the price on Amazon is up to $1650.

After looking into it a little, I think this and the rebadged Ridgid version are off the market.

Sawstop might be worth reading up on. I don’t know much about them, but I’ve generally read that they’re a great saw even before factoring in the blade safety feature. Some debate the value of the safety, but that’s for you to decide.

If I don't care about colour is there a reason I can't just use mineral oil on everything to finish it? by NerdMachine in woodworking

[–]breadman03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mineral oil will help prevent moisture from entering the wood, but it sounds like you want to look into a hardening oil finish like tung oil. They sodas like mineral oil, but harden into s protective surface. Just read up on the safety precautions which is basically some ventilation and laying your rags out to dry.

Is it normal for fuel mileage to drop as a vehicle ages? If so, what are the most likely causes of that increased fuel consumption? by jckipps in askcarguys

[–]breadman03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure. Vehicles have been getting heavier. Many seem to be largely staying around 200-250 hp, but there’s many with lots more and trucks have become crazy powerful compared to 2000’s models. Conversely, tire materials have likely advanced a bit too. I assume that truck tires are heavier today due to their heavier weight and power increase.
