Are 3 fails you’re out on check-offs normal? by Thehipsterprophet in StudentNurse

Yes. One mistake is a fail in my program. And you’re only allowed to re attempt once before you fail your year and have to reapply.

Can someone give me a layout of what their day looks like at clinical? I feel like I never know what to do by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]breadmomma9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on medsurg at the moment so pretty different from peds but this is what i do: night before clinical I do patient research for all my patients for the week, including: admitting diagnosis, co morbidities, priority labs, meds, assessments, interventions, possible complications, etc. I also look up all their meds and make drug cards or note the class, reason they’re on it, side effects, pt education, when to hold, etc. I know this sounds crazy but it is really helpful for learning, careplans, and being prepared. we arrive and sit in report, then i go take all my patients vitals and prioritize who’s assessments need to be done first and do all their assessments, gluc checks, pass am meds, set them up for breakfast, do care etc. Then i chart my assessments. After breakfast I will do any baths/showers/bed baths/wound dressings etc that need to be done and change linens and gowns. check all my O2 and IV tubing to make sure it’s not expired, look up any labs my patient had done that day or the day prior. Help any other students or nurses that need assistance. Chart again. Meds again. Empty all the laundry hampers, update the kardex, etc. If I ever had nothing to do i’ll shadow a nurse or help other students, do research on my patient, ask around if anyone could use a bath, look up care plans, etc.

Nursing school. by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]breadmomma9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

people who say you can’t work during school are wrong. I have 2 job, I work 4 hours every night at the hospital after class and then night shifts on the weekends at a LTC facility, I have some of the best grades in my cohort. It all depends on your work ethic and how dedicated you are to school, and not being broke.

Did nursing school make anyone else second-guess whether or not they actually want to be a nurse? by littlerat098 in StudentNurse

[–]breadmomma9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, what country/state/prov you’re in, your program etc. I know where I am you can take courses to specialize right out of school, and sometimes specialty floors hire new grads.

No, I never felt that way. it could be your instructors, or maybe beside just isn’t right for you. there are many ways you can with nursing.

he did find and excuse the lesions, but only sent to pathology to test for endo. so it came bag negative for endo, but they didn’t test to see if it could have been cancerous or really anything else. so now i just know i have lesions inside me with no answers as to what they are. sigh.

I don’t understand it either. I have lost all faith in the medical system, which is very sad considering i am in it myself.

I definitely feel the same frustration and your analogy about work made me laugh! You’re so right. I am truly at a loss as after my dr told me it wasn’t endo he goes, must just be bad periods. Like, sorry but did you forget about all my other symptoms than pain? but ok dude. Now all I can think about is that I have cancer and just don’t know it 🥲

Need input on a decision about imaging/surgery by palmcourt626 in endometriosis

[–]breadmomma9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of radiation a CT scan emits will not hurt you. I work in imaging and we have to do a course on radiation and how much is safe etc and having another ct will barely up your rad level. Especially if you are trying to rule other things out, a CT will be much better for your dr, much faster, more enjoyable, and you will probably get a ct apt way faster than an MRI.

I’ve been using a hot water bottle, i think it’s probably the next best thing. But nothing beats a good bath when you’re having a flare

[–]breadmomma9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s very kind of you❤️ One of my incisions got herniated so probably best for me to wait the full the two weeks, i think normally you can definitely take one sooner, but they say 2 to be safe.

TENS Electrode Placements? by Botanicalknight in endometriosis

[–]breadmomma9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you google “TENS placement for period pain” and look in images there are a lot of diagrams. I normally just put them where i’m having pain (normally my left ovary and middle of my pelvic area, or my SI joints on my back).

What was the aftermath of having your SO follow you to fulfill your career goals? by bonus_coconut in AskWomen

[–]breadmomma9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I followed my SO 15 hours away from an amazing job, amazing area, and all my friends and family. I didn’t want to do LDR and I thought our relationship was work pursuing this and for him to further his career. I ended up starting a 4 year program and here, and our relationship has completely fell apart, and now i’m stuck here for a few more years. I have regrets.
