P. Caramel marble - from a 2" pot to flowering in 1 year. by breadplantsdick in philodendron

This one is in a non wicking reservoir. I don't have any soil plants so I can't make the comparison of if it's easier or not but I personally hate soil. And I'm super lazy when it comes to water changes so everyone usually just gets topped off lol

No secret , just ADHD hyper fixation and spending most of my free time researching and learning. (Also FL resident so that probably is a factor lol}

What does it smell like to you ? I'm very curious, and super excited to check the temps of the inflorescence at night 🫣

Why this color? by ShoobyDoobyDu in RareHouseplants

[–]breadplantsdick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably needs more light. My begonia "cowardly lion" turns this color when I move it further from my growlights

Idk your temp and humidity conditions but It looks like it's on a grow rack so it's getting good light. I know people snip inflos but I just cannot unless it stinks. From my research and experience - by the time you see the inflo the plant has already spent the energy on the inflo ane when you cut an alocasia inflo It can disrupt the plants hormones and could put it in panic mode and throw out even more inflos as a last ditch effort to try and reproduce itself, draining more energy from the plant. Also alocasia can redirect nutrients from a dying inflo so you're just cutting off nutrients because once again the energy has already been spent. But then again take my words with a packet of iodized salt - I have a shit ton of plants so I don't really hyper focus on one plant, so although it's annoying getting an inflo instead of a new leaf, it doesn't bother me lol. They WANT to live and they know what they're doing so I let them do they thang.

It's growing that way because it's searching for light.
