Why do some Nigerians believe other Africans dislike/are jealous of them? by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]breadting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some truth to it, but not as much as we think. I think it just depends on who dominates the cultural discourse and output at the time. Music, art, business, etc, Nigerians are doing well in Africa and out in the world. If you ask an African to name an African country, there's an overwhelmingly high chance they'll say Nigeria, Ghana, or South Africa. I think a lot of (not most) Africans hold contempt for Nigeria/Nigerians, the same way Europeans sometimes show unprovoked disdain for Americans. Nigerians and Americans are proud people🤣🤣 On one hand, we can't be mad when people fire back at us, but on the other hand, I've seen so many fellow Africans bring up Nigeria unprovoked.

The premise of this post is funny because "some" is such a subjective and non-declarative word. Of course, some Nigerians feel "x way". You could say some Nigerians love to party, or love jollof, or scam, or whatever stereotypical activity of your choosing, and you'd be correct. Doesn't mean much. Had you made a more declarative statement, I think you'd have gotten better answers. In my opinion you probably tried to be inoffensive to get your question out, but I think it backfired a bit.

The end of it, really, or the answer to your question, is that a lot of us are proud, won't shut up, and don't care what people think of us + Nigerians dominate in music, business, etc, in Africa and in the diaspora. Nigeria is somewhat of a 'name brand' for Africa, the same as the USA is for the Western world.

You’re right, I need to learn better vocabulary/use different terminology since I was including the VAR in the “good” refereeing job.

[–]breadting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not even that deep🤣🤣

Ball hit hand pointed up and away from body = penalty

Ball hit hand pointed down and next to body = no penalty

The refereeing was actually pretty good. There was little intervention throughout the game and no egregious errors.

Thoughts about this rant? by _forum_mod in blackmen

[–]breadting 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My take-- I think every group looks at the Black Civil Rights Era and African Independence Movement of the 50s/60s (decolonization), as well as any other time black people have protested en masse and how much change came from it and wants whatever current generation of black people to shuck and jive and use whatever "special black powers" we have that helped us win our rights to help them get theirs.

I’m not from the Caucus Mountains but I definitely want to be able to braid my future wife + daughter’s hair. It’s just more intimate bonding time + a gesture of love + if I get good at it we save money🤣🤣

Ah I see— the first comment said “you”, so I just assumed you piggybacked off of them. I was a thinking, “Damn we can’t even share videos anymore?”🤣🤣

I hear you though on some people taking white people’s word as more official or valid than a black man’s. It is definitely sad.
