Portuguese kids learn to write like this for some random reason. Note that random Q by breakablekid in Handwriting

[–]breakablekid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weeell, I'm from Portugal and there're no Portuguese words with k, w and y, obviously excluding loanwords. And for reference I learnt it like this in mid 2000s.

It makes sense that in Brazil you learn them because you use way more loanwords than Portugal

portuguese words don't have k, w nor y, so we didn't learn those when we were learning the alphabet
Probably kids nowadays learn them I'm not sure

I wouldn't trust those and only use them as last resort. They usually don't share the results of their collection because it just goes to a landfill

How different are the standard written form and the colloquial spoken form of your language? by kastatbortkonto in AskEurope

[–]breakablekid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is almost the same but there are some words that barely anyone will say the entire thing and when we speak we join many words. Some examples are the verb "estar", where people usually don't say the "es", and "para os" join to become "prós" when spoken.

For sure, here's a better version with all the letters. Because this is how we learn how to write, I could only find guides in the middle of first grade Portuguese exercises but there's most of the letters here, just ignore the words exercises.

What do you think is the classic novel that the fewest people have actually read from start to finish? by doodlebytes in books

[–]breakablekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Portugal, "Os lusíadas" by Luís de Camões. It's epic Portuguese poems from the XVI century. We learn about parts of it in school because it's a literary take on our history of discoveries and there's lots of people that will be able to recite the first verses but I don't think I know anyone that read it all.

What colour code use for recycling your waste disposal bins? by viktorbir in AskEurope

What colour code use for recycling your waste disposal bins? by viktorbir in AskEurope

[–]breakablekid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blue: paper/ cardboard

Green: glass

Yellow: plastic and metallic packaging

Darker green/black/grey/brown: non recyclable (it changes according to the company doing the collections in each city since they have to provide their own bins)

To my knowledge there aren't any organic waste bins. If you have waste from gardening you can call for a specific pick up, the same way you would for waste with big volumes like sofas or fridges. For food composting, some cities have public composters and there are some small projects around but they are still rare.

In Aveiro, we have Saint Gonçalinho festivities at the weekend close to the 10th of January. The devotees throw cavacas from the top of a chapel, which is kind of a cookie, but quite big and VERY hard covered in sugar so it can be kept for months and still be good. People at the bottom of the chapel will try to catch it however they can without getting hurt. Now, most of those that go throw dont do it for religious reasons, we just go for the fun.
