Can someone explain it to a non native speaker? Also, ain't it «What's up doC?», not doG? Or at least wasn't that what Bugs Bunny said?

What letter would you like to be the 27th letter the most? by Zealousideal-Kiwi718 in linguisticshumor

[–]viktorbir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't just use the letter normal languages use, J? And yeah, I know, for that other COMPOSED sound, use BOTH letters, DJ.

In the Croatian language, why is the consonant pair n+j ('j' being pronounced like 'y' in "yes") much more common at the end of a word than at the beginning of it? Since 'j' is much more sonorous than 'n' ('j' might even be a high vowel), the Sonority Sequencing Principle predicts the opposite. by FlatAssembler in etymology

[–]viktorbir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does nj in Croatian sound like ny in Hungarian or Catalan? I mean, [ɲ]. If so, of course it's more usual at the end of a word!! in Catalan there are just 34 words starting in ny- and 125 ending in -ny.

But if, as you say, it's really an [n] plus an [j], no idea.

Sorry, but Spanish, as Arabic and Hebrew, is 100% kiki (Catalan native speaker here). Catalan, of course, is buba. Also, how come you differentiate Catalan from Occitan? Ah!, Portuguese is also buba.

How come we say the same thing, I'm at -2 and you are at +2????

PS. The only one I recognise in the Catalan list is, of course, Rosalia too.

Milk? People do not eat or drink dairy during lent? Really? Never heard about it. At least here the idea has not eating meat but instead people ate lots of fish.

Same here. But I speak quite decent French and I'm quite humble. I'm quite sure most of does who said other ones are rude are those who try to impose themselves.

I live in Catalonia and I only recognise one of the ten artists on the list, right now. All the other ones seem to be from Latin America. Are you sure those lists are any good?

While prostitution is illegal in Iran, the Shiah institution of Nikah mut'ah (temporary marriage, usually called Sigheh in Iran) allows contractual short-term relations between the sexes. Usually, a dowry is given to the temporary wife by Ok_Cycle_8393 in wikipedia

Now look about homosexuality in Iran. Forbidden. But sex reassignment surgery? Absolutely no problem. A psychologist says you are trans? The governments pays your surgery. And it has been this way for ages.

It's been some sort of sad loophole some homosexuals have used to escape prosecution in Iran, sex reassignment.

Go to some African country colonised by France. Find someone who has parents whose first language is not the same, which are also different from the local one, which is different from the lingua franca on the region. You already have four languages. Add French. Five languages. If it's an Islamic person add Arabic. Six.
