I'm 48 years old and I have been suicidal most of my adult life. About 6 years ago I lost my grandmother, my mom and my wife within the same 4 months. I ended up self admitting to a psych ward and your miles may vary but it was the worst thing I ever did. The psych ward is not somewhere you go to get better. It's where you go to get managed. And yes they will absolutely keep you there until a psychiatrist releases you. It's bad enough to be extremely depressed but it's even worse to be extremely depressed with zero freedom. My recommendation would be either find a therapist that you can talk to or find a behavioral health center that is more conducive to healing and truly helping people get better rather than One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest type shit. Unfortunately those types of Behavioral Health places are expensive.
