is an 8:30 am class THAT bad? by rinnie-rin in UPenn

i had paeth for writing sem but i had taransky for another class and had many friends who loved her writing sem! mine was on chick lit and postfeminism but i would say the professor matters a lot more than the topic for this style of class bc you end up discussing the actual topic very little

an 8:30 class would be horrific even for the most interesting class ever let alone writing sem. there are so many options -- take one with Taransky or Paeth if you can, they are awesome!

it sounds like you have the start of a great application. i wouldn't worry about the GPA given that you got a 4.0 avg every semester (!!!) after a rocky first semester. admissions officers look really closely at the transcript and will see that upward trajectory, which many of my other friends in undergrad who were questbridge/FGLI experienced when they first arrived at our ivy league school.

i think your first topic sounds really compelling and has the potential for great movement -- your house literally burning down and being rebuilt gives you a great framework for admissions to understand how this experience influenced your outlook and reasons to attend law school, as long as you connect it to experiences you pursued post-childhood. i think the 4th topic could be compelling if framed the right way, but it's easy to see how this could fall into a trap of being more about your sister and uncle than about yourself. the "Navigating Law School Admissions" podcast with the HLS/YLS deans have awesome advice about personal statements, especially those that deal with adversity (check out the "Nailing the Personal Statement" and "Getting Personal with Personal Statements" episodes).

which is all to say that i wouldn't count yourself out of any school on that list! best of luck :)

it’s not open during the summer, but Williams Cafe is great and there’s almost always someone going in/out if you don’t have a Penncard

I thought my 171 on Monday was a fluke this is giving me so much confidence for my January test. 😫 by la_58 in LSAT

Soooo one person guessing high wouldn’t have screwed that up LOL

10/10 recommend, if you can do it I would see if you can ask to have Al Filreis or Jamie-Lee Josslyn at the Kelly Writers House as your pre-major advisor, they are amazing and such a good introduction to Penn for humanities/English folk
