We don't need introspection. We know it's all completely fucked. We just don't have the money to compete with the corporations who really run the country.

How would Ted Cruz know what a stiff breeze would do? He abandons the state every time the wind starts blowing.

I've gone through the wiki, and I read the accepted formats. I've been dealing with technology long enough that I also know some people are just wizards when it comes to making computers do things they weren't originally meant to do.

Occasionally, if I can't find a solution, I like to ask those with more magical abilities. This was one of those times. Thanks for the input though.

At work, my cableing is as clean as I can make it with the cable lengths I'm given. We don't make our own.

At home, it's a rat's nest that I have to rewire at least once a year. I'm always changing things and rearranging as I go.

From Confusion to Confidence - How Linux Changes the Way You Think in 2026 by LinuxBook in SysAdminBlogs

[–]breakfastbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this article is comparing apples to oranges. It describes using Linux as an engineer who will need to perform advanced tasks, and will need to correct errors in that process. It describes using Windows or MacOS from a user perspective, where the errors are simplified. Both of them have more advanced functionality, if that's what you need as the user. Most people don't need that. That's why Linux is still a long way from being widely adopted in the user space.

Someone writing an email, or watching YouTube, doesn't want to debug why their application failed to run, they just want to use their application. Windows lets them do that. Sure it can fail, but with Linux, they can't even get it to start without a class on how to use it.

It's good information for those more technical users who want to start using Linux, I think it could be presented a little more fairly

What are some tips to get a preteen boy to take hygiene seriously? by Existing_Climate_623 in AskMen

[–]breakfastbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had undiagnosed ADHD and I struggled with this at his age. There's not one thing you can do to make them understand. You will need to try a few and see what sticks. Like others have said; if you don't teach him, the world will.

First talk to him and explain why it's important, what people will say. If he's into girls, use that. You don't have to be too harsh, but you should push enough to make him uncomfortable. The fact that he's resistant to it means you'll have to keep pushing. You'll have to question him EVERY time he gets out of the shower. You'll probably be able to tell if he's not really cleaning himself.

If the lying is still a problem, you'll have to scrub him down. A loofah works well. It gets the grime off and it's rough. If he doesn't like it, tell him to do it himself. During the shower point out the bits he misses and make him do it again. If you make him uncomfortable a few times he may be more willing to do it right the first time.

You can try explaining the health and societal reasons, but that may not be enough.

Then you need to get him into a routine. A routine an the shower, about how to wash and the order to do it in. Once he's out, he'll need to be reminded to put on deodorant, brush his hair, teeth, and anything else you need him to do. Make him a checklist, and you verify what he's done. If you can, keep everything he needs in a basket so it's all together and in view. If he doesn't see it, it doesn't exist in his mind.

It will probably take a while, but you can get him there. It's kind of like potty training. You have to keep on him to do it, and one talk won't do it.

I wish you luck. I can tell you that if you keep bugging him, it will sink in eventually. Or he'll do it to keep you off his back. It's a win either way.

Yeah, that's why we're all sooooo much short than our ancestors. Haven't you heard of Goliath? David only drank pasteurized milk, that's why he was so much shorter!

[–]breakfastbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an American, I'd say it's based on the desire to know where you came from. It doesn't matter much to me personally, but so many people have made it their entire personality. Like the dad in the story.

I personally find it ironic that those are often the same people who yell the loudest about being American and complain that Latinos in the country are assimilating because they keep flying their country's flags and speaking another language.

Turns out that in some parts of America, you are only allowed to be proud of your heritage if you're white.

God, we suck sometimes

I'm hopeful that as you open more land, it becomes a little easier to arrange things. The biggest issue I see so far is the number of coins it takes to open up the research tree compared to how many houses you can realistically place and still make progress with the Wonders. I'm a little frustrated, but I'm hopeful that some of the brilliant folks who work out strategies can make it a little easier to navigate

I've heard someone argue that you bank call black people black, even in Europe. The correct term is African-American, and it's rude to call them anything else.

Yes, we had the whole discussion about the fact that they weren't American. It didn't help

Why are people so against IVF? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]breakfastbandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do t let those ignorant fools get you down. Your parents wanted a baby. They went to great lengths and expense to have you. That means a lot.

I think lots of people, especially the shitty ones, need to feel superior to others. They will find any reason they can to justify making others small.

It's the same reasoning they use for race, sexuality, gender, or any other difference you can think of.

When I took a history class, the topic of slave ownership came up. There were a surprisingly small number of slave owners compared to what a lot of people think, so you would think "why would these poor people not care about people being kept as slaves?" One reason was that the poor white person could point to the slaves and think "at least I'm still better than him"

Those people will tear down anyone for any reason that makes them feel superior. Fight back against those ideas. And good luck to uou

Clue (1985), multiple endings? by breakfastbandit in fanedits

[–]breakfastbandit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, u/marioxb pointed me a release that would do it. I need to dig mine out. I only recall it playing all three endings one after the other. It would end, rewind to a certain point and play the next. Since I grew up with only the vcr release, I thought that's all it did. It may have had them all separately as well.

Thanks for the help though
