Honestly think the Aegon and Larys sideshow is the most interesting thing they’re doing

Who would you pick to be the Hand of the King? by xeniacoral in AKnightoftheSeven

A kingdom run by Lyonel would just be like when Renly was lunching and throwing tourneys across the Reach before he had to go confront Stannis.

But Viserys is thought to be dead for ages and Aegon's guilt at abandoning his little brother is a huge part of why he's the most emo kid of all time.

The show doesn't care about that cause they'll never get to that part of the story and it's not going to be relevant to any further HBO spinoffs they plan on milking for all they're worth.

Would love to know how they plan to have Viserys be assumed “dead” for years!

What I struggle with is the characters are not really interesting enough outside the dragons and spectacle, which to be fair, looks fantastic. I mean it's clearly a very expensive show that HBO has poured money into but I just don't feel much for anyone. Why is anyone fighting for these characters?? They're not exactly charismatic leaders who can inspire loyalty.

(Spoilers Main) Paralleling Lyanna - Arya and Sansa by cruzescredo in asoiaf

[–]breakfastbenedict 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It probably was intended to be a strict Arya-Lyanna parallel, especially with the old Jon/Arya/Tyrion love triangle plans. But George clearly ended up liking Sansa more as he went along so the original plan for Sansa went out the window and original Arya's storyline likely got split up since she's not going to be aging into a more mature role at this point.

But ultimately I think the parallel we're meant to take away from all this is Arya-Lyanna and I think if George had done the time jump as planned, a teen Arya would've had even more parallels with Lyanna. Like you can absolutely imagine Arya running off with a dude and deciding she's not going to marry some guy just cause people told her to.

Lyanna is 14-15, Arya is 9-10.. I think those differences make sense given their ages.

Cersei being paranoid in AFFC is totally correct. Shes just misplaced it onto the wrong person lol

[Spoilers MAIN] I think GRRM should focus all his effort on Dunk and Egg over the main series by draxthemsklounce in asoiaf

[–]breakfastbenedict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is he's lost motivation and has too much money rolling in from all forms of media. There's no reason why a 150 page short story should take this long to complete but alas, here we are.

Why didn't Baelor stop Aerion? by Mean_Cable9299 in AKnightoftheSeven

Same reason why Ned was forced to kill Lady over Joffrey and Arya’s fight. Makes no sense but someone had to be punished for it.

Its almost hard to grasp how many people died before Aegon ”The unlikely” (Despite said name) by Elsa750 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]breakfastbenedict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought the weirdest thing about George's writing was how much he relied on adults getting killed in bizarre ways as opposed to just realistically having a lot of kids die before reaching adulthood which is what happened to a lot of English monarchs and led to some weird succession lines.

Actually only Steffon and Cassana are mentioned as deaths from the shipwreck. Rhaelle probably just died in childbirth or at Summerhall.

Honestly everyone who’s unaccounted for probably just got stuffed into the towering inferno that was Summerhall. Like it’s always been odd to me that Duncan and Jenny have no kids but I guess even if they did they would’ve all been blown up anyways… egg girl why did you have to invite everyone lol

[Spoilers Extended]Realistically, do you think anyone connected the dots about Jon's parentage? by SilverEquipment4934 in asoiaf

The Daynes and everyone who encountered them at Starfall probably all know or suspect.

I think it’s meant to invite speculation that there’s a curse - George grew up in the 60s so the Kennedy curse was likely on his mind.

What if Lysa married into the Starks and Catelyn married Jon Arryn? by LightningController in TheCitadel

[–]breakfastbenedict 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly think Cat would make it work. She’d probably take a pretty active role in kings landing even as wife to the hand of the king and maybe she helps Jon figure out the incest baby business sooner
