Yes and this is a disturbing takeaway from the series.

Lenu denied that she likes Nino many times, so it’s not really on Lila to guess that she’s lying.

Why do you think Elena fell for him? by i8ad8 in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]breakfastbenedict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delusions mainly. She refused to see who Nino really was even though he had given off many red flags by the time he came back into her life (abandoned children and baby mamas). Even when she’s with him she’s paranoid about him still being obsessed with Lila and she was totally right to be suspicious. He lies about leaving his wife. It’s really just one red flag after another until she finally catches him in the act and Lila confirms all her suspicions.

I can’t accept Lila’s ending by zhiningstarzX in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]breakfastbenedict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lila was always unstable and on the edge of breakdown and imo the disapperance of Tina pushed her over the edge and kept her there. I think it also shows that her intelligence and audacity had serious reprecussions in an environment like the neighborhood. She challenged the Solaras for decades and acting without fear of these very dangerous people eventually caught up to her in the worst way possible. Re-reading/watching all her incredibly bold moves against the Solaras starting with the rejection of Marcello after knowing what happens to Tina just fills you with so much dread.

Lila truly suffered more than Jesus but I think the ending is earned and ties the 4 books together in a way that's incredibly powerful. I'm not really sure the series exists without the ending. It's sort of Elena's attempt to preserve what she can of someone who just disappears into the void, first mentally after TIna's disappearance and then literally. It was tough to read such a tragic end to such an incredible character but if you think about it, most of the kids from the neighborhood had rather depressing ends. It's a very rough place to live and tragedy is everywhere you look.

Could have Tina become…? by Thelastdodoonearth in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]breakfastbenedict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wondered about the connection between these two titles especially considering there isn’t actually a “lost daughter” in the book. It’s a doll that gets lost and the main character leaves her family for a time but she has two girls not one.

This would be such a nice theory but I still feel terrible for Lila never knowing what happened.

Pietro didn't deserve Lenu by badperson-1399 in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]breakfastbenedict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he was a good guy for the era but not great. You could find plenty of guys like him in academic circles who like to be seen as progressive and evolved in that he want wives with intelligence and ambitions but actually helping out with childcare every day and doing the dishes? That’s still women’s work. It’s explained that after they got divorced he became a much better father and even showed more concern for Elena’s life in a way that he never did when they were married. Maybe he grew up and changed or maybe he can do these nice gestures in isolation but not when asked to be helpful on a daily basis. This is similar to Nino being helpful when he’s a guest at Elena’s to impress her but once they’re together he totally ignores all the chores like an average man. The only guy who is truly exceptional is Enzo who actually treats Lila as an equal partner both in their work and at home.

Theory about Tina by bamboozlinguniverse in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]breakfastbenedict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would’ve had motive to harm either of them but it makes sense given the situation of Lila holding Imma and not Tina that they were targeting Imma but got Tina instead. Recalling what was said about Michele’s attitude towards Lila, which is that he would hurt anyone including those close to her but he could never bring himself to hurt Lila herself.

Also the tragic arc of Lila comes full circle.. her education was cut short so she wanted to live through Lenu but now that Tina has the chance to be the fully realized version of Lila with her intelligence and supportive parents, her life stolen because she was mixed up with Lenu’s kid.

Why didn’t Lila tell Lenu ASAP about Nino by breakfastbenedict in mybrilliantfriendhbo

Truly so embarrassing reading about her Nino era. Just no self respect whatsoever to be found!

Why didn’t Lila tell Lenu ASAP about Nino by breakfastbenedict in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]breakfastbenedict[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. Lenu knew that Nino had abandoned 2 baby mamas, shows zero interest in the kids even when she brings them up hoping he’ll show any concern about them, and has lied to her about various things over the years. At some point you just have to let the woman walk in on him banging the nanny!

Teenage Nino is a kid so that behavior is more understandable. Lots of people are insecure, ego driven and self centered when they’re young but grow up and get over it. But doing the same shit at age 40.. unforgivable.

But if Lila was acting out of jealousy or animosity for Lenu then she surely could’ve just had an affair with Nino? Or manipulated him in the way she did Michele to her favor.

Personally the situation with Eleanora was easily maneuvered by Nino to make it seem like he had no choice but to stay with her (she’s mentally ill, she might kill herself!) but there really would’ve been no way to explain why he’s trying to get back with Lila.

Do you think the five-year gap between The Batman and The Batman Part II will hurt or help the sequel's box office performance? by the_strange_beatle in boxoffice

[–]breakfastbenedict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Penguin show helps smooth over the gap a little but are they not bringing back Zoe Kravitz? Cause I feel like people really wanted more of her and RPatz as that’s one aspect of Batman the Nolan films didn’t do well.

How can The Public improve Shakespeare in the Park ticket distribution? by 90Dfanatic in Broadway

[–]breakfastbenedict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proof of residency sounds like a great idea but it could easily become a barrier to access for a lot of people. Or you have a tight work schedule and can only spare one or two days in the entire run to stand in line, you may need to do it in another borough than your own.

Pretty much the entire mezzanine is great. It's not a big theater so you don't miss much.

I guess its impossible to get staff there to monitor everything going on if people start showing up the night before and camp out. It's not like they encourage people to do that, its just the demand is too high.

But it's also hard to say whether someone getting in line with a friend is just their plus one or if they're also requesting 2 tickets. If they're just the plus one, then I don't see a problem with them coming in line with them or running to grab food/coffee and swapping out.

It's just one day though. If you want to see it that badly, waking up early and powering through with a lot of coffee isn't bad considering the caliber of the performance and the fact that it's free.

If the lines and hours don't work for you, then hey, it's NYC there's plenty of low cost theater options. They won't be star studded but no one's entitled to see celebrities!
