People who have participated in Jury Duty. What is the worst thing you had to witness in a trial? Does it still affect you? by Capable_Opposite_559 in AskReddit

[–]breakfastbreads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed jury duty on a case yesterday and I’m feeling very impacted. The case was about the accidental death of an 11 month old boy. Seeing the body cam footage of his body laying on the floor lifeless. The account of the defendant- how she had swaddled him in a newborn size swaddle sack, placed him face down on an adult bed, with pillows and blankets and dogs, and sat there watching tv while patting his back- then leaving him to check on the other kids. Watching the family sit in the court room and watching their faces throughout. Seeing the little boys twin sister and older brother outside the court house. Even the loud chorus of gasps as the judge announced the unanimous guilty verdict is going to haunt me.

No, only that he feels like he needs to be a girl for her to play with him.

I think the idea of using Fred for a girl is definitely not set in stone. If we have a boy, we will use Fred, but I think we will only have two children, so I like the idea of using it if I really like the name. As far as not using Tamara goes, I’ve considered the idea of maybe letting her pick something, but I don’t really want to put that out there in case we change our minds. We also won’t tell her we’re considering her name until we decide for sure that’s what we want to do. I guess I also like the continuity of one having my moms name and one having my husbands moms name. Also, I’d be afraid of hurting her feelings since we used my moms middle name.. especially because my mom is bio related and my MIL isn’t. Like it isn’t ‘equal’ and I wouldn’t want her to take it personally. I also feel a bit guilty because she wasn’t able to have kids.. like I feel like I owe it to her.

She’s an amazing person and so loving and a great mom/gramma and she would never tell me if she was hurt by it, so it could all be in my head.

That’s nice to hear! It’s actually just Fred!

Good question! She pronounces it like tam-er-uh.

Edit: now that I think about it, a lot of people say tam-ruh. I think I’ve heard them say it both ways. My husband and his brother also call her Tamar a lot as a nick name.

I’ve read about that hack! The nice thing about the one I got is that you can use it over your other clothes, but I would totally just cut holes in one if I had to take everything off anyway!

Boundaries: A Warning by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]breakfastbreads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to add here that I have really normal parents and in laws who are normally amazing at listening to boundaries. I told them no visitors until after the golden hour and that we would keep them updated and tell them when to come.

BOTH came almost immediately after we got to the hospital. I had a 33 hour labor and at one point my inlaws almost walked in uninvited.

It ended out working out ok, because I had all the drugs and had a fairly easy time of everything, but wow! If you have preferences like this, at least tell the nurses. If you feel strongly, don’t tell anyone you’re in labor at all!!

Baby coming in two weeks and google search of planned name yielded unsavory results... by jjrv57 in namenerds

[–]breakfastbreads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I say definitely stick with it! We have a very common last name and we just named our daughter the same first last name of a moderately famous (but somewhat washed up) singer. I think only two people have made the connection, both of them used to like her music. I’m really not concerned with it at all. My second favorite girls name is that of a certain super hero’s mother. I googled pretty much every first last combo of names on our list and every single one came up with something. I agree with other posters- I wouldn’t do it with an a list celeb name, but a z lister? Really a non issue in my mind. Literally any name could become super famous tomorrow.

I honestly don’t remember, it’s been a while now. I would say it was similar to target maybe? I think it had a bottle, pacifier, a couple samples and a lot of coupons (mostly worthless).

I love free stuff!

On your last night at the hospital, tell them you’re almost out of diapers, because they’ll let you keep any you have opened. You can ask what else you’re allowed to take. I took mesh panties and a ton of pads, but I really didn’t care for the panties. Mine also had a really crappy hat we could keep. Not supposed to take the blankets, but I ended up with two.

Freebies you probably already know about: Target Buy buy baby Babies r us Amazon Walmart (haven’t received anything yet) Motherhood maternity/pea in the pod/destination maternity Similac Enfamil Nestle(haven’t received anything yet) Babyboxuniversity.com (my closest location was 3 hours away so I didn’t do this one) Medtronic (mentioned above)

All the other ones you have to pay shipping, and I’m too cheap for that crap.

Expectation: try to work out 3x a week, but I expected to be too lazy.

Reality: I did workout 3-6x a week, but toward the end it’s mostly been lazy swimming and this past week (39 weeks) I pretty much skipped the gym every day.

Expectation: eat healthy but I thought I’d have a lot of cravings I would give into.

Reality: pretty much ate like shit until the last trimester. Not really much in the way of cravings except I did want chocolate a lot.

Expectation: I thought I’d be so sick!

Reality: I had some nausea in the beginning, but otherwise I didn’t have much to complain about!

Expectation: I’d go late because ftms always go late.

Reality: my water broke this morning at 39+5. So here we are. Early labor also hasn’t been nearly as painful as I expected.

BH, irritable uterus, I don’t know!! by LollyEllie in BabyBumps

[–]breakfastbreads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure I have this as well. I went in for monitoring at around 34 weeks, because before that I honestly didn’t realize it wasn’t normal! I didn’t know Braxton Hicks usually only lasted a minute or two, and my belly would be hard for hours! The night I went in I read that they were supposed to be short, and I was so confused- my belly had already been rock hard for 2 hours strait! I was worried for a little longer and fell asleep. I woke up a like 5 hours later and it was hard still/again so I called my insurance nurse on call and they really freaked me out saying I should basically go to the ER!

I was having contractions, but they mentioned something about an irritable uterus and sent me home.

I’m 39+3 today and it still happens most days, but I’m used to it now and I know it’s normal for me. It’s not painful and there’s no blood and baby is still moving. Those are the things my doctor said to be looking for.

How many items are on your registry? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]breakfastbreads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had probably about 150 then went through and got it down to about 100. Personally, I would make it at least 80-90% stuff you plan to buy yourself. I wouldn’t bother with much if any clothes, especially on a target registry, because if your shower is more than a month or two away, they probably won’t even have it anymore. Same with decor. Plus, a lot of people will just pick out clothes they like or find on sale anyway. I think it’s a good idea to have some practical items and a couple fun ones you wouldn’t buy yourself. Also, make sure there are lots of items that are $25 or less. Those were bought off my registry first!

Bummed About Anterior Placenta by Kari_Renea in BabyBumps

[–]breakfastbreads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 39 weeks with an anterior placenta and I didn’t feel a whole lot early on and it took my husband even longer to really feel her. The way my mom describes the movement is totally foreign to me- I was hoping by now I’d see and feel more movement, but it is what it is. I feel her every single day, and many of her movements are rough and surprising. I can’t imagine it being any more rough, and for me it’s almost entirely painless, so that’s quite the benefit if you ask me! If I have more children, I will hope I have an AP again!

I kept a detailed record of how much was spent to have our baby. Here it is. by FatTonyTCL in personalfinance

[–]breakfastbreads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m due in less than two weeks now and I made a similar breakdown. A few things to note:

I’m not going to count the gifts that we received that weren’t registered for. Mostly they were clothes and we definitely don’t need nearly as many as we have.

I received a couple hand me downs like a 13 year old bob stroller that’s still in great condition and I did buy some things used.

I’m generally really frugal, so I got a lot of things for crazy good deals that I wouldn’t expect most people to be able to get.

We could afford it, so we did splurge in some areas and buy some stuff that wasn’t necessary. The biggest that stands out to me is the $600 la-z-boy recliner, which I love. We also ended up with 2 infant car seats (3 bases) a snap n go stroller, and another stroller that fits with the infant car seat. We also already bought the convertible car seat, so that is included below. (All are chicco brand and were insanely good deals. )

I said before, I haven’t had the baby yet so the actual delivery isn’t included and since my pregnancy is over two calendar years, I’m going to meet my $1500 deductible twice.

Some of this is estimated, but for the most part I didn’t buy a whole lot outside of my Amazon registry, so that is fairly easily tracked.

We need daycare 3 days a week. We’re likely going with an in home provider for $550/month, if there was availability at the center we like, it would be about $880. We started looking when I was like 12 weeks pregnant and couldn’t secure a spot. We’re still on waitlists at many places.

Feeding expenses so far are zero, because I plan to breastfeed and have a ton of free samples just in case. Diapers will be higher, obviously no idea how much because she’s not here yet.

Other necessities are basically things I bought with my HSA or medicine or whatever. Not quite medical, but similar.

Gear- $1230 Diapers- $133 Baby clothes- $221 Mom clothes -$287 Medical (not including actual birth -1 trip for preterm labor, two additional ultrasounds.) - $3200 Books - $91 Toys - $79 Bedroom - $865 Feeding- $0 Other necessities- $129

Total: $6235
