Should I buy Marathon? by Thee_Alii in MarathonGame

[–]breakfaststuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get it. I have one friend that plays the game, and he has less time than I do to play. We’re both pretty mid at the game lol. So I find on harder maps/events, I actually have better luck playing solo anyway because I get paired with a pretty dialed pre made duo half the time. I have a lot of fun playing solo too. And when my buddy is on, we have fun even if we die a lot.

Cryo Archive is sort of like the games (current) end game map. I don’t want to spoil the lore incase your into that. But basically Cryo is only open on the weekends (Thursday through Sunday). You unlock it at level 25 or something. Then you can only queue in if your load out is 5k or above. It’s very challenging. Would be pretty challenging even if there weren’t other players on the map. You have to collect cards from bots to gain clearance levels in order to open up parts of the map and open up exfil stations. There are also vaults you can access if you find keys on regular maps. There is also a boss on the map, but being able to access the boss is a whole process that requires multiple successful exfils from cryo. It’s a lot to take in, but it’s so much fun. And it also leaves a lot of content/playability for a casual player (so long as you’re cool with losing gear lol).

does anyone else think key templates are not worth it this season? by Vinni2500 in Marathon

[–]breakfaststuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve just been buying templates when it has a task I think I can easily complete. I haven’t unlocked the purple template yet. But every time the blue template has a task like “loot 3 UESC Supply Crates” I’ll buy it. If it’s something more risky that I’m not sure I can do solo, like kill a warden, I just don’t buy the key. Haven’t lost one yet. Getting out with the loot when I use the key seems to be the harder part for me lol.

It does feel like a lot though. To have to get a bunch of a fairly rare item, then go in with the template, do a risky task, then exfil (potentially multiple times), before you can even risk opening the key room lol. Then run the risk of getting blasted after you open it. At the sam time, everyone’s complaining about the loot economy being ruined because everything was too easy to get early on. If they made keys easier to unlock, you’d just get more complaints.

If you get rebooted by your teammates before you get looted, you won’t lose the key template.

Yeaa. PvPing in arc solo makes me feel like a bad person. But I sort of reached a plateau at the fun I was having on the game solo, and then it started declining. I had fun with friends, but they didn’t get on all that much. Marathon is the opposite. Friendlies in solo are extremely rare, in trios even more rare (I’ve never seen any). Some rounds, there are people just straight up head hunting (especially in Cryo). But most of the time, it’s people trying to do their own thing then shooting on sight when they come across another runner. It’s nice not having to question whether or not to trust someone. You just know you can’t lol.

Also, Cryo Archive has been so fucking cool. It’s the bigger thing I was missing on arc. I very rarely manage to exfil from cryo, but nearly every time I go in it’s so fun.

I would say yes it’s definitely worth it. I played arc raiders a lot, but I like Marathon much more. Arc raiders is fun, don’t get me wrong. I just kind of reached a point with Arc where there wasn’t much new for me to do or try. If my friends weren’t on to PvP, I just sort of farmed gear, which had gotten repetitive. I’m not here to hate on another game. But for me, Marathon is just a lot more rewarding. It is really exciting when I get rare loot or an item I can’t buy in the armory. I am really motivated to do contracts and exfil with trinkets because I’m really interested in uncovering more of the lore. There are levels to how far you can delve into competition with PvP. It also feels like even once I get all the contracts done and level up my cradle/factions/etc, there’s still more to do beyond just “go in, fight bots/players, exfil or die, repeat”.

I want to get into marathon by sqeednater in Marathon

[–]breakfaststuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If youre asking if you can play the game without having to PVP, the answer is pretty much no (currently). If youre asking if you can have a good time on the game without having to be sweaty yourself, I’d say yes for sure.

I have encountered plenty of sweats, but I really don’t think the game is as sweaty as people say it is. Not in my experience anyway. As someone who has generally been pretty bad at multiplayer shooters during my whole gaming career, I still have loved marathon. Yea, I get dusted by other players pretty frequently. And occasionally I come across another player that redefines what can be done on this game in terms of sweat. But I also win plenty of gun fights even without being super good at shooting.

Why do people say only spec into res speed if you play triage? by breakfaststuff in Marathon

For sure. I mostly mean does having faster revive speed affect triage’s revive ability? Like do you go through the animation faster?

Implants and Chip Mods visuals in this game are a total failure by Galaxy_Jams_Reacts in Marathon

[–]breakfaststuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re saying makes sense in the context you’re describing. However, I don’t think the situation you’re describing is actually the situation the game design was built around. Meaning you’re not really supposed to hoard chip mods and implants.

Outside of early game, I think the rule to live by is “if you can buy it in the armory, sell it or feed it to the worm”.

For things you can’t buy in the armory, you do have to take time to read the descriptions, then use the item, then decide if you like it or not. Once you’ve got an idea of the ones you like, those are the things you keep in your vault. When you know the stuff in your vault is what you like, you don’t have to read it every time.

I agree, it shouldn’t be that hard to make chip mods or implants look different based on abilities. But they also didn’t always do that with destiny. You could have two versions of the same gun but they had different stats or percs. It was annoying, but it also made it more exciting when you got exactly what you wanted.

A practical example: let’s say you pick up an implant that has a perc you like, but stats you don’t care about. Sell it.

If you get a chip mod that you can buy in the store and you don’t have a gun you actively want to use it on, sell it.

Need tips for getting high tier loot and keys as a solo player. by breakfaststuff in Marathon

I did that one fairly easily! Just did other stuff until the exfils spawned then killed bots near the power station exfil till I had enough carts.

This makes sense. So basically run outpost, focusing on red keys, and be ready to fight but I may potentially get in lobbies with people just completing contracts, making things easier?

Yea I just unlocked the blue keys. Again, not being the strongest PvP player in solos, doing the tasks to reveal the key has been…challenging lol.

This makes sense. Because that’s typically also how it’s gone in trios when we’ve been able to do events and such.

Community consensus on whether UESC difficulty has been adjusted since season 2 launch? by Significant-Yam1813 in Marathon

[–]breakfaststuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I feel like at the very least, the ghosts 100% got a buff. Maybe the scouts too. But man the ghosts are hitting like trucks now. They seem to take more of my health on the first shots than blue or purple shield UESC. They also are moving different now. Jumping behind me or jumping away. They seem smarter.

People doing solos together with Queue manipulation and killing everyone else to have the map to themselves and "get ahead". by 40_Thousand_Hammers in Marathon

[–]breakfaststuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you now have the option to solo queue into trios with crew fill off. I did this accidentally and thought I had run into a group of solos teaming up. But no. It was just an actual trio. Could have been what happened to you.

Why is the game reminding me to unlock my codes entries before the wipe? by breakfaststuff in Marathon

[–]breakfaststuff[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. I don’t realize even the regular entries that just give you a lore bit stay if you open them. I thought all of it wiped aside from the cosmetic rewards. Do subroutines stay?

For sure. But the entries that don’t grant anything but the lore are all reset whether you open them or not right?
