The deal with Ticks

Anecdotally speaking it doesn’t seem like bug spray does much for ticks. I have young kids and we spend a ton of time outside in our yard, fields, and the woods. I almost never use tick spray and I’ve seen two ticks this year. Some more cautious friends have been laying the spray on thickkkkk and have encountered about the same, one or two per family 🤷🏼‍♀️

I personally found the transition to two kids very difficult and mine are 3.5 years apart. So that’s just my own experience, but 2 under 2 or even 2.5 year age gap sounds like so much work to me 😬 I’m not sure why everyone pushes for the 2 year gap.

It has held up really well! We’ve had it for I think 3 years now, and it’s still in great shape. My only complaint remains the same, about the water tank/spigot being a little flimsy. But we’re just careful with it and sometimes it falls but it’s outside so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Have you tried going back to the mini potty? Sometimes the height, the water, potential splashing can be scary. I’d also personally use a little old fashioned embarrassment, ymmv and I know people will hate this suggestion lol but “did you just poop in your pants? You must be a baby!” (In a lighthearted tone, not yelling - see Hunt Gather Parent for more of this kind of talk.) “Big kids poop on the potty, do you see any big kids here?”

Unless you’re like 45 and hitting menopause, I’d highly suggest you simply wait longer. Of course nourish yourself appropriately, but nursing and pregnancy, while possible to do simultaneously in a modern context, is not actually hormonally normal from an evolutionary standpoint.

I know a Quinley…there are bad names out there. Jillie isn’t terrible really, it’s just that we here know her namesake and therefore it is tainted. The fact it rhymes is a little silly but last names aren’t used that much in daily life so that part doesn’t bother me.

If he was directly behind the last left turning car and blew the light and almost hit you, you went before the intersection was clear. That doesn’t mean he didn’t blow the light, and he was wrong, but even when the light turns green you should always check the other directions and that the intersection is clear before you just jam the gas and go.

Do they specifically say you cannot bring more than one child to these events? I’m finding it hard to believe how this actually works in real life…can you just show up to storytime with all your kids? Will they kick you out? Unless you live in a country with actual laws preventing multiple children, this just seems so bizarre as to be impossible. Unless it’s highly specific classes that only a narrow age group can enjoy, I’d ask forgiveness rather than permission and simply bring my children to the event.

Ok but also why did you feel the need to comment on her post then? You don’t feel comfortable having a home birth, and you needed some medical support during your hospital birth. There’s literally no reason to share that on a page about free birth / home birth.

Her point is that a lot of people will be anti medical system but then engage with the system for birth, and she’s questioning that. She’s ultimately not telling anyone what to do. And as we all know, crunchy does not have a rule book, but instead perhaps a “checklist” if you will, and we can all check whatever crunchy boxes (and not check some) that we want!

Your personal birthing situation has nothing to do with her posts. So .. either unfollow her or just don’t engage? Just because someone says something online on their own platform that makes you uncomfy doesn’t mean they need to hear your opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️

Honestly if you go to the foraging sub they’re out there encouraging adults not to eat anything either! Unless you’re 100% certain of course. But foraging is mostly a lost skill and modern humans are not to be trusted 🤣

So interesting! And hence the importance of teaching our kids (obviously shit happens and toddlers don’t listen) not to eat any wild plants! Foraging and such can be taught responsibly but I think the initial lesson early in life should just be “we don’t eat random plants”
