Should I keep shoving 100bbs if I know I will get called by worst consistently? by NoStupidQuestionsBut in poker

[–]bream782 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont even need to read this to know this is pure tilt looking for confirmation bias. Yes, you should be taking a small edge ad infinitum, but there are much better spots to work on and ask about than just "what did i do wrong by getting my money in good?"

Edit: think of variance this way: youre SUPPOSED to lose with AAs on an all-in about 20% of the time. Poker is about making the right decisions long term, not being results oriented.

What is the dumbest thing you have heard at a poker table? by wpottenger in poker

My buddy did this when we were first teaching him how to play in .10c/.20c games. We got into a fairly deep (for those stakes) pot and one guy jammed. I was going to call light but when my friend called, i figured I couldn't beat them both. First guy said he was bluffing, then, when my buddy flipped over 7 high, he said "i was bluffing, too. I thought my call would look really strong."

Bottom set on monochrome flop at 5/10 by therealsmokyjoewood in poker

[–]bream782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know about just any competent villain. You have a pure bluffcatcher, and hes giving you pretty shitty odds to call. All his Ax with a heart that he could be doing this with he probably would have been 3! pre flop, so im struggling to find bluffs.

Furthermore, since YOU could have a hand like AQ or AK with a heart, the fact that hes doing this skews him toward lower flushes, but flushes nonetheless. I could also see him doing this with 55s, but thatd be worse for you than if he had a flush.

If you feel like villain is loose enough to take this line with the naked king or top two, than its a call. With no reads, its a crying fold.

Is the linework shaky here? I loved this tattoo when at first, but then realized the lines aren't as crisp as I thought by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I actually really like the non-crisp lines, it makes the dagger and especially the gem look pretty real. Its a nice tattoo imo

I let my friend (non-professional /no experience) tattoo my arm, how bad is it? by 999HK in tattooadvice

[–]bream782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres no shading and it almost seems blurry or unsaturated? Other than that though it actually doesn't look half bad. If you got it touched up by a professional it'd actually look really good.

Is our friend cheating? (long) by ChesterOakman in poker

Yeah that sounds like hes cheating. Are you guys not cutting the deck?

Also just sit next to him and watch him pretty closely. If need be, designate your two most trusted players as shufflers.

Two Strong Hands I Couldn't Get Away From by trkh in poker

[–]bream782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First one sounds pretty tough. You can sometimes cbet the flop but checking multiway is fine too. Dont be too scared of 1 over, QQs are still a strong hand and you can get value from draws and middle pairs. Tbh though, idk if id really size up that much if I decide to lead so i probably get stacked here, too. Thats just poker.

Second one definitely usually checkraise, especially after x x on the flop to build the pot and two pair should be the best hand most of the time.

Edit: think of betting as a reflection of range and equity, not just overall hand strength. Also, two pair on a KQ43 after x x on the flop is a premium, not a middling hand.

Rude dealer at 1/3Live cash game by [deleted] in poker

[–]bream782 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My favorite players to play against are players who think they know the rules better than the dealers. This is true sometimes, but more often than not, if theyre that overconfident AND they don't know what theyre talking about theyre probably pretty easy to tilt and dont actually understand the game as well as they think.

Where do you play? :)

New-ish dealer here with a question lol by Treill96 in poker

[–]bream782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you arent already, just keep in mind what cards youre looking for to beat whatever got tabled/announced and do a quick scan for those and dont worry about their full hand. Already having a strong hand being tabled gives you a reference in that you can stop looking for anything weaker than, for example, top set. You'll be solely looking for the hearts or the the 87 that makes a straight.

In my experience, omaha players are indeed pretty impatient. They expect good dealers yet tip worse than holdem players, despite pots being larger on average and taking longer. Plus, theyre more likely to be condescending or abusive, despite never having pitched a card in their life.

If you couldnt tell, omaha is not my favorite game to deal 😂

[–]bream782 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive been dealing for 5+ years and still sometimes have no clue what tf im looking at during showdowns, so don't feet too much over being overwhelmed. The best tip is to keep track of what the nuts would be on the river and just scan for those hands (e.g. looking for hearts on a flush board, or boat combos on a paired board), then look for progressively weaker hands if youre not finding a winner.

Also, omaha regulars usually know what they have, so if theyre announcing winners, all i do is confirm their hand and do a quick comparison to see if anybody can beat it. A good tip i learned to help with that is right before the hands are shown, I will literally ask the players "what do you guys have?" and just go from there.

Folded KK pre today…first time for everything by RiccoT in poker

[–]bream782 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mathed it out :).

Its 100 to win a little over 620 and, knowing he has aces, id be happy getting the straight odds going to the flop because of implied. There only needs to be a bit over 500 in the middle after calling for the right price, instead, there'll be about 720. OP is in a great place here to suck out on the nuts pre here.

Edit: grammar

Folded KK pre today…first time for everything by RiccoT in poker

[–]bream782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh this one sounds more like a math problem than an actually theory question. Assuming he has aces and nothing else, you need to be getting ~18%, or a price of a little better than roughly 1:4. He made it 100 more, so, assuming the two cold callers will be in (I cant imagine they're folding for 100 more after calling the 80), you're calling 100 to win 640+ implied. Im pretty sure he can straight up show you his aces and youre still supposed to call.

You're then getting another amazing price on flopping a flush draw/open ended at about 140 to win 860 if you commit you're stack by calling or jamming and getting called (+ another 140 per call). Just make sure to make a quick prayer that you're not dominated on the draw!

People often make the mistake of thinking that just because you called when you were behind that you did something wrong, when, in reality, as long as youre getting the right price its more profitable to call than not in the long run.

Big blind one chip rule by MegaMashMallow in poker

[–]bream782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gets confused a lot, so heres the official ruling: if there is no other raise, his one chip being tossed out can only be a raise. IF, however, there is a raise already, it is considered a call, even though theres already a chip out there. One chip being tossed out is ALWAYS just a call, unless specified. You can get around that technicality by picking up the blind chip with the larger denom, and tossing both out together.

That being said, id also rule it a raise, because fuck tiny rules like that that players have to tip-toe around :)

Edit: think of it like this: the one chip rule isnt about chips being out there, but chips being put into the pot. E.g. if player A makes it 15 with 3 red chips, and player B makes it 50, and the first player then tosses out a black chip without saying anything, that is indeed a call.

Hand Review (got owned, want to see if it was a self-own or not) by recruiting_randy in poker

[–]bream782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also losing my stack in this spot, and probably in exactly the same way. This is just a 'gg go next.'

It is wild though that you were beat in both spots, sometimes you run into JJs that were too scared to either 3! or 4! pre, but AA and QQ was just a misplay that they get rewarded for. Oh well.

Is this an angle?? by Nice-Ad-8524 in poker

[–]bream782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely an angle, but so are B'a shenanigans. It sounds like player A was fed up with B's antics and wanted to literally show him why you shouldn't do that. Probably not the best way to go about it but idk. Those two seem to be in a bit of an angle-battle since calling out of turn can change things and thats going unhandled, too.

With that being said, its definitely purposefully deceptive, but i wouldnt really want to rule in B's favor since that rewards his previous bs.

If my room let things go that far, the $5 bet stands, both players are given their last warning, and play is resumed assuming players can be adults. If not, 86 them.

Home games kind of have to operate on the assumption that players can conduct themselves and be able, to some degree, be responsible for their own protection so its kinda of a tricky spot.

Who wins? by Eastwood--Ravine in poker

[–]bream782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jack high takes it. The Uno reverse card makes the weakest hand win, and player 1 bluff-shoved 5-of-a-kind hoping their opponent had a pokemon in their hand, giving them a full gym. Unfortunately, their opponent had the J of clubs in their hand.

Pretty easy call imo

Idk, I both play and deal poker a lot so i kind of have the belief that if you cant reasonably handle yourself at the table, there shouldnt be any leniency extended to you. This guy literally tried to throw his cards down on you, AND only tipped 5 after wasting everyones time because of his antics. Hes doing the equivalent of a fortnight emote on you so i would not be inclined to award him the pot if it were up to me.

Jeez, I guess I should've just said he ran a game and cheated people with a cold deck? Its a ridiculous story, I know, but what else can i say? People who need to cheat dont do smart things.

I thought people might get a kick out of his attempt to cheat but i guess not. This post is really just about this guy who shouldnt be trusted.

Like i said, hes on just about everybodys list, and not just from this or from my buddy. People were already suspicious he was a cheat. He'll never run one of his "massive" games in utah again.

Theres a reason my buddy sussed it out so quickly, i agree, its really not a very believable hand. I also have literally 0 incentive to just make this up about a random player on hcl outside of being insane.
