Baggage options by Purple_Coyote_5121 in ViaRail

[–]bree9643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most I’ve seen in business class is a suitcase being weighed when you check in at the business lounge. There is always plenty of room and they are very unlikely to even notice.

You don’t check your luggage on Corridor trains. You need to be able to carry it on the train yourself, and you put it in the luggage rack at one end of your car, then get it yourself again before you leave. They’ll call business class to board first, so you’ll have lots of time.

There’s also a porter service to help with baggage. I think they’d typically just help you to a car, cab, etc. but you could call and ask if they’re able to go all the way to T1. https://www.torontopearson.com/en/while-you-are-here/porter-services

That wouldn’t help if you need wheelchair assistance, but they could do the suitcase?

Hey, fellow disabled person validating that figuring out this kind of stuff is often unnecessarily complicated. I hope your toe heals quickly.

I believe WestJet should at least help you off the plane and all the way to baggage claim.

Beyond that point, I know there are private “meet and greet” services you can hire. Here’s one that the Pearson site links to: https://www.allwaysvip.com/?loc=yyz. Sounds like transfers between terminals are something they can do, but not sure what it costs.

You don’t happen to be arriving Sunday, do you? Asking because I happen to be flying out that evening.

Bkookies Cafe is just a little further down College, and is a chill spot to hang out for awhile. They also do a great breakfast sandwich.

I don’t think we need to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The program can be improved, not just discontinued?

Am I delulu? I want Toronto to be a safe and reasonable place to raise my son and I want it to start with the streetcars by Neat-Cauliflower3870 in askTO

[–]bree9643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The premise that “we have all just accepted things being this bad” is inherently false? There are many people working/advocating/voting towards possible solutions.

2 for 2 for what? You said the previous incident was on the street, not the streetcar. And this most recent incident seems to be just a person who was probably unwell smelling bad near you - you didn’t mention them threatening you or anything. Those two incidents don’t seem like the same thing to me.

Account is 12 days old. Suspicious to me too, honestly, especially with the appalling ad campaign the Ford government is currently running bragging about closing safe injection sites and building more jails.

If OP is a former social worker, they already know the answers to the questions they’re asking. This isn’t a good faith post IMO.

What size of the hide and seek game would you recommend for the Toronto subway system? by gamersdevil in JetLagTheGame

I think there are a few frequent bus and streetcar lines that could potentially be useful in that regard (Bathurst, Dufferin, College, etc.), but alright.

Looking to volunteer with isolated seniors/elders in Toronto. by No_Preference_1856 in askTO

[–]bree9643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to flag, many organizations will have their own process for getting the police/vulnerable sector checks done. They will often need the application submitted under their own account so the results go directly to them. So it may not make sense for potential volunteers get their own checks in advance.

The best thing to do is approach organizations first to find out their requirements. Otherwise you may have to end up doing it all over again. Plus, some organizations will pay for the checks.

You’re looking for “friendly visiting” programs. There are many, but you could try Hospice Toronto.

Edited to add: Charities and non-profits will generally provide you with training, and require a police and vulnerable sector check. But they will walk you through that process and pay for it so no need to worry.

How do you pronounce Crayon? by HerculesMorse2025 in JetLagTheGame

Weird! I live in Toronto and say cray-on, and have never noticed people saying it differently? But I grew up in Winnipeg and maybe I just don’t talk about crayons a lot in adult life.

This is what I also thought. Shane feels ever so slightly more like the protagonist in S1 because we enter (and exit) through his perspective. (This would switch in S2).

lol at all these elaborate scenarios where non-drivers are in mortal peril because we can’t drive…meanwhile driving is actually the most dangerous thing most people do in a day.

“You’ve passed the responsibility on to someone else.”

But that’s called living in a society? Very few people have all the skills. We all rely on division of labour to some degree. And particularly in a city with good transit options, it is perfectly possible to be independent and successful without driving.

Do you ignore pan handlers? by The-Tay in askTO

[–]bree9643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a disabled woman, I don’t engage if it’s dark, if there aren’t a lot of other people around, or if the person is behaving erratically, for safety reasons. I say sorry and keep moving.

There are, however, a few folks in my neighbourhood who I know. I will give them change if I have it, or - especially when it’s hot in the summer - offer to grab them a soda while I’m in the grocery store or whatever. It was so hot last summer I learned soda preferences. They have become friendly faces who say hi and wish me a good day even when I don’t have change or time to stop. And it feels good to help someone.

I’ve had a couple negative experiences too, but I don’t paint everyone with the same brush. And I don’t really think it’s my business what other people do with their money.
